CURRENT SCHEDULE
Expect a new video every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday at 11AM Central!
How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a TH-cam channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin. Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like. These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.
If nothing went wrong during 1st of anything, I just sit there knowing SOMETHING is about to break just don't know what.
Modern machines have helped farmers to make harvesting more efficient
Love the drone footage.
i live in the city and i couldnt imagine what it is like for you guys with the drought. Any way another great video and love the drone footage. Hope you have a great harvest on all crops and hope the next cutting will be bigger for you
Another good one Ryan!! Drone footage is excellent as always
Crazy weather means less hay, but at least there were bales to harvest. I still enjoy the loading when the skid steer is used.
Ryan you did it again!! Great shots from the drone with the Mississippi in the back grown!!
It is always something, isn't it? Great drone video!
I worked on the CNC machine process for making the rollers on JD baler. At the time the baler was built in Otommwa Iowa.
To bad JD never figured out how to put grease fittings on the balers. Helps to sell bearings, I guess. 😮🔥😮
At least you got some bales to feed this winter, hopefully second cut will be better😉👍
Nice video again, thanks👍👍
Great to see you bailing. You all are so versatile on the equipment you run.
Bravo - Great Machines/ Great Video. Thank you Ryan.
You picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel 😂
Great action shots. So high up. Nice!
Your belt twisting might be annoying, but that's nothing, back in the 80s our JD round baler was always breaking belts, so much so we always carried a spare in the cab.
I remember watching many of them break and grandpa got so mad at so many of them, he ended up trading it in for a New Holland chain/bar bailer.
But i remember it ended up being a pain too, it had an oil tank to lube the chain every time the gate opened to eject. We collected a lot of used oil to recycle onto it.
It was kinda nice, that you didn't have to back up to eject, it had a spring loaded deal that rolled the bale far enough away from the gate.
But eventually we found the chain links would crack, luckily never broke all the way thru, but still you were down for a long time to replace the links.
Just something else to keep on top of on the farm.
TWISTED BELTS? PUHLEEEEESE! 😂
Your minor breakdown was way easier to fix then Travis's breakdown
Great video as always Ryan keep up the great work
Again - video quality is great - drone footage clarifies where and what the terrain is.
Cool drone shots!
Thx for sharing, greetings from Belgium
Love the drone footage, beautiful scenery.
Thanks Ryan!
Watching the skidsteer wait for the bale reminded me of my disgusting dog waiting for the other dog to drop it's load out. 🤠
Great video Ryan and awesome drone footage. That’s a bummer about the wheel coming off the Baler.
awsome video ryan thumbs up and shared
Watching you for a few years now, wondered when you would get another baler and you did great move. (get er done)
Great job Everybody💯👌👍🙏😎
Ryan! Go to your dealer and tell them you want a baler gate take up roller kit. it sits at the very top of the gate and when you dump a bale it’ll keep more tension on the belts. It won’t take all of it out but it will be significant. And that should help your problem. Also be sure to look at the belt guides at the top of the baler. They’ll obviously have wear but if there are deep grooves ground into them just go ahead and replace them. May not help but it won’t hurt. Flipping belts are no fun
An accumulator sounds like a headache for the type of ground you guys run on.
thank you
Good content. 👍
Muy bueno! Lindo video buenas imágenes como siempre! 👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙋🏻♂️🙋🏻♂️🙋🏻♂️🙋🏻♂️🚜🚜🚜🚜
One thing I do think would be Interesting to see ya demo a self loading and unloading bale trailer
Great video as always Ryan!!! Got my shirt ordered. What u guys building or ripping out with the metal dumpster??? Next video maybe?? Take care Ryan and thanks as always for your time making these great videos
We just needed to do some cleaning around the farms with all the metal laying about from previous projects, mostly old gates and barbed wire thrown in it!
Hey Ryan it doesn't hurt to be prepared for the unexpected.
In my opinion the 79 is a better fit for the rake than the 46 because he has said in past videos that the rake will push the 46 around and with 79 having more weight it's probably the better option plus the 46 and the mower go together perfectly.

Good Video
My first cutting of hay, less than half of what it normally makes.
Your awesome
Hey Ryan I was wondering if it would be worth having a bale kicker so you don’t have to back up too dump bales
I'm a little shocked that Travis didn't use the 7920 on his baler I wonder if it would do any good on it
You have a lot of nicer equipment now than in years past when you started your videos. Good job and nice to get things done faster.
Great Video Ryan, it's been a while! have you stopped your relationship with kuhn? thanks for sharing
Ohhh crap! What is up with the round bailer always losing a tire?
Is that baler ISOBUS connected? Doesn't look like a separate monitor. Jw, if it is, how do you like it?
That tractor might be over kill. For a hay field 8 tires ?.I thought a tractor like that was use to level land for fields to make sugar cane the 4640 would have done fine
Sonne farms have one they are all dumped in a row saves fuel
Why big tractor on the other Balier got 8 tires?
Could have did the same with 1red baler as 2 green ones the red case IH just puts that much more hay in a bale go Red if it isn't Red leave it in the shed
Just out of curiosity Ryan, what benefits (other than up front cost) do you see in doing round bales versus large square bales in either 3x3 or 3x4?
No messing with knotters and the ability to tube wrap. Unwrapped and unprotected round bales with net wrap keep better than the same of large squares.
And if you are set up for unrolling or ring feeding, the big squares don't work. Great for TMR and large bunk feeding (if you can store under roof) but not always a good fit. 👍
You can tube wrap big squares
Need a fix or tune for that belt overlap on incline. Have you contacted Deere about it? Are they aware? Did they fix it in later models?
You don't know much about Deere.,. Engineering Dept designs stuff they have no clue as to what it is supposed to do. The Service Techs have to figure out the mistakes.
I might have missed an explanation in another video, but why don't you use the bale kicker on baler? Seems like alot of shifting and clutching. We put a couple thousand bales a year on our 2 balers and my left knee cried inside everytime i watched you backing up.
lack of flat surfaces...bales tend to roll on knolls
@CurrentChoices Easier to gather the bales if they're all rolled to the bottom of the hills haha. That is one thing I've never liked about John deere balers, kicker is more like bale launcher. Vermeer is much gentler on bales but on good hills the bales still will role for quarter of a mile if done properly, keeps the other tractor in the field paying attention. I actually have used our hills to gather bales, any bales on top I will send them rolling down the hill with loader, saves a lot of trips up the hill with tractor.
This is just a suggestion since your dad purchased the 7920 why not look at getting another baler and having him help with baling hay in the valley
$$$
Why don't you use the 7920 to bale. Seems like a waste of more expensive hours
I don't remember do you ever bale any corn stalks
They do
stover...
Hi😊
Sold out of the safety green 2xl?
Wondering the same!
This issue is fixed now, you can place an order for a 2XL and 3XL again!
@@HowFarmsWork sweet!
@HowFarmsWork Thank you, just ordered mine!
Baby windrows
Wonder how this will work when these maniacs force you to use battery powered hay bailers. We will go hungry which I suspect is the intention.
You guys should invest in a bale accumulator
Hey Ryan, well that is 175 more than yall had. I do hope and pray with one more cutting Their will be enough cow feed and some selling feed. I thought Travis replaced both bearings and the left side wheel? Lord help the family of my Friends. Take Care, Take it Easy and pray and Trust JESUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yep, the problem we think was the rim didn't fit the hub quite right since it was aftermarket.
You have a sweatshirt on ? where did global warming go ?
