I feel you. I just lost my life long sweetheart. Our history was 47years. She passed 5 weeks ago and I feel lost without her. I don't know what drew me to thus song. Maybe because both ways is such a lonely and permanent fate. I'm sorry for your loss brother.
The last life saving surgery I had was in 2006. My 8th to date. After surgery, I couldn't be woken and the doctors were more than a little anxious at my comatose state. So my missus got my ipod with mini speakers and played ELO's TIME album. My favourite album and this song is on it. Apparently, half way through this song, I suddenly awoke and asked one of the startled nurses, _"Why are we going to the moon?"_ Then promptly went back to sleep again for about 10 minutes before fully regaining consciousness 8-))... The power of ELO ;-))...

The year was 1998. I was 10 years old. My mother had left my father. The dew was on the grass just after dawn. Birds were chirping. Everything was right in our surroundings. We sat in his Nissan truck. I did not know true sorrow as my father did. However, I could feel his pain. He put the "TIME" cassette into the stereo. He never shed a tear, he didn't sob. He got out of his seat and said to me "son, things might be ugly at times, but today is a beautiful day". Years later, I have never forgotten the importance of stoicism, honor, and integrity. My brother introduced me to this album. I think I wore out his cassette of it. This song is the one that always gets stuck in my head. The lyrics are incredible. "And the tears I cry might turn into the rain that gently falls against your window, You'll never know" always bring me to tears. I suppose it's because he will never know how much I miss him since his death. He was the best brother a little sister could have ever asked for.
You know that while this song had never beaten even a top 10 songs of ELO in the west, it was 100% hit in the USSR and adjacent countries…still “Ticket to the moon” remains the most recognizable song of this band for people of the all post-soviet space. It’s just extremely vivid how strange and perplexing the world can be! And still as a Russian after getting acquainted with other songs of them THIS ONE is unquestionably loveliest for me and a true masterpiece which probably outran its time)

It's1981. I'm eleven and have just gotten this LP as a Christmas present from my older brother. I'd already fallen in love with ELO when he had given me "Discovery" for the previous Christmas. I didn't know what it all meant, but I loved the way it all sounded. And I still do.

One of the first songs I ever remember hearing as a 5-year old in 1983. My parents threw me and my older brother in the back of my dad's Chevy with a bunch of blankets, his radio, and few casettes for our entertainment and drove us from Seattle to Disneyland. I probably had that album memorized front to back by the time we got there. Back when things were so uncomplicated.

This song remindes me so much of my father, he used to listen to their album non-stop back in the 80's in Moscow, Russia. He didn't understood a word, yet still found their album magical and somehow relative. This song always bring tears to my eyes, because it reminds me of the soft, gentle side of my father, and also that everything is so temporary and one day I won't have my father anymore.

I bought this album when I moved to Houston in 1981, this song was on an awesome album, ELO was one of the great bands in my lifetime, many memories of Houston from an Iowa guy
How can music ever be so ahead of its time? I used to listen to Jeff's songs through the 90-s and they seemed contemporary back then, and so they seem right now. Yes, you can hear the overtones of the 80-s in some places - but still those songs are from such a distant future.

I went to an ELO concert about a year back and I just remember the crowds more than anything. It was filled with people all in their 40s or older and I was one of the youngest there, being only 14 at the time. Everyone was standing and dancing the atmosphere was amazing. I will remember that night forever. Thank you ELO, you've made so many great songs.

I think you are right about his analogy. In a way, it's somewhat like the grim choice from Game of Thrones: "Love is the death of Duty. Duty is the death of Love".
I read somewhere that it's about drugs but I'd agree with you. Maybe it's not success, maybe it is about getting hight to the moon, but his love for sure won't be with him, maybe she just left him or she died of drugs. He payed the fare is about decisions that are already made, one way ticket, those decisions made consequences that can't be altered. Whatever the meaning, this is love song on the first place.

The year was 1998. I was 10 years old.
My mother had left my father. The dew was on the grass just after dawn. Birds were chirping. Everything was right in our surroundings. We sat in his Nissan truck. I did not know true sorrow as my father did. However, I could feel his pain. He put the "TIME" cassette into the stereo. He never shed a tear, he didn't sob. He got out of his seat and said to me "son, things might be ugly at times, but today is a beautiful day". Years later, I have never forgotten the importance of stoicism, honor, and integrity. Thank you ELO and thank you papa. If only you could see me now.

My brother introduced me to this album. I think I wore out his cassette of it. This song is the one that always gets stuck in my head. The lyrics are incredible. "And the tears I cry might turn into the rain that gently falls against your window, You'll never know" always bring me to tears. I suppose it's because he will never know how much I miss him since his death. He was the best brother a little sister could have ever asked for.

You know that while this song had never beaten even a top 10 songs of ELO in the west, it was 100% hit in the USSR and adjacent countries…still “Ticket to the moon” remains the most recognizable song of this band for people of the all post-soviet space. It’s just extremely vivid how strange and perplexing the world can be! And still as a Russian after getting acquainted with other songs of them THIS ONE is unquestionably loveliest for me and a true masterpiece which probably outran its time)

One of the first songs I ever remember hearing as a 5-year old in 1983. My parents threw me and my older brother in the back of my dad's Chevy with a bunch of blankets, his radio, and few casettes for our entertainment and drove us from Seattle to Disneyland. I probably had that album memorized front to back by the time we got there. Back when things were so uncomplicated.

This song remindes me so much of my father, he used to listen to their album non-stop back in the 80's in Moscow, Russia. He didn't understood a word, yet still found their album magical and somehow relative. This song always bring tears to my eyes, because it reminds me of the soft, gentle side of my father, and also that everything is so temporary and one day I won't have my father anymore.

I bought this album when I moved to Houston in 1981, this song was on an awesome album, ELO was one of the great bands in my lifetime, many memories of Houston from an Iowa guy

How can music ever be so ahead of its time? I used to listen to Jeff's songs through the 90-s and they seemed contemporary back then, and so they seem right now. Yes, you can hear the overtones of the 80-s in some places - but still those songs are from such a distant future.
Jeff Lynn is a time traveler, he came from the future to quell our fears.
I think those specific 60s, 70s, 80s, etc aspects of songs add to the song's nostalgia and make them better!

I went to an ELO concert about a year back and I just remember the crowds more than anything. It was filled with people all in their 40s or older and I was one of the youngest there, being only 14 at the time. Everyone was standing and dancing the atmosphere was amazing. I will remember that night forever. Thank you ELO, you've made so many great songs.

@@user-pp1ec3vt1g Тоже вчера смотрела видео на канале "Лонгплей" и не могла поверить, что эта красивейшая песня вообще не популярна на западе. Вот что-что, а билет на Луну по своей мелодичности и переливам мало с чем сравниться, крайне самобытное произведение. Не уже ли СНГшный народ, действительно как-то "по-особенному" слышит и слушает музыку? К слову, Dire Straits тоже удивили, такая чудесная баллада.
@@konishe Скорее всего не "по-особенному", а "по-своему". Ведь есть же композиции, которые популярны там, но малоизвестны здесь.

I read somewhere that it's about drugs but I'd agree with you. Maybe it's not success, maybe it is about getting hight to the moon, but his love for sure won't be with him, maybe she just left him or she died of drugs. He payed the fare is about decisions that are already made, one way ticket, those decisions made consequences that can't be altered. Whatever the meaning, this is love song on the first place.
