Seasons 1-4 are an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire. Seasons 5-8 are fanfiction of varying degree. While there are some fantastic episodes in those last 4 seasons, they are of descending storytelling quality.
Welcome to the club 😁 Like yourself, I read the books before I watched the show, and because of it, I think that made me significantly more critical of the show than most other people who only watched the show without reading the books. Looking forward to seeing your thoughts as you watch the show further! Especially as a book reader!
@@booktubeadvocate That’s a great point, I have such high expectations that I’m probably going to end up being super critical of it and noticing details they’ve changed that I wouldn’t noticed I hadn’t read the books! I’m still so excited though 😁 Thanks again for commenting!
It will be interesting to see a reaction from someone who's already read the books and knows the essential storylines. There will be a lot of bits and pieces that will be different (and a few storylines that are heavily altered or left out entirely). Also the merging of multiple character storylines into one character to streamline the already large cast (which would be massively larger if 100% true to the books). Enjoy!
@@bill.godwin-austen That was one of the main changes I noticed so far, because in the books there were so many side characters that I got confused at first but in the show they’ve blended lots into one character! It’ll be interesting to see what other changes there are 😁
First 4 seasons are amazing. It's such a huge project to put those books to film and they nailed it.... Then GRRM hung them out to dry and the quality declines afterwards.
@@deezdgbt Maybe I’ll stop after season 4 then haha, this first episode was amazing so I’m expecting that the rest of this season will be a great adaptation! I wonder if things would have been different for the later seasons if GRRM hurried up and actually finished his series 😂
For me the first 5 seasons were amazing. The show and the books (after book 3) decline in different ways. I think the books start to meander and lose focus, whereas the show goes the other way and loses all sense of build and pacing. I still really enjoyed them both though.
@@BeckyDoesBlog No, don't do it😅You should watch it till the end)I know that many people think that the 4th season is the best and I agree but the best season finale is the end of season 6 for me so If you stop watching you'll miss out on such a masterpiece)

Just finished watching this posting of yours, I was just totally glued to my screen, lol. Loved how you talked about the characters coming to life on the screen. Fun fact: The King and Ned had such good chemistry because they were already good friends prior to the show; I think they actually went to school together if I'm remembering my trivia correctly. And btw, there will be a moment coming up (I won't say what or when for now) that for me, is one of the best things ever recorded in all tv AND cinema, and it involves Arya :) I don't know if yer a compare-contrast kinda person or can just watch the show for itself, but here's what I'm hoping, as you keep (probably) binge watching the episodes, the show starts to take on it's own thing, becomes its own entity, strides on its own legs and is different enough from the books, that by the end of season five, you just keep on watching the rest of the seasons.
@@chefskiss6179 Thanks for the comment! That makes it even more wholesome knowing that they were friends beforehand, I love that. I’m so excited to watch the rest of the season, I’m going to film a Season 1 tv show vs book video soon because there’s a few differences that I’ve noticed so far!
@@BeckyDoesBlog I already caught your other vid of you watching episode 9... looking forward to your season 1 review. I liked you talking about how things just came off the page, like the sigils and crests and the such, as the budgets per season keep going up it just gets more 'real' and exciting, visually anyways. I tend to find people who say "the book was better" quite insufferable at times, only because they next-to-never give examples. I loved that you gave a brief pov of Ned when Joffrey gave his command, it just added a bit, for me anyways. I hope you add a few little bits like that, I'm assuming that was from the book.
@ Thank you for the great feedback! I have a feeling the next season (2) will be amazing too as seeing the chapters and plots coming to life in season 1 was an indescribable feeling! So far I’ve enjoyed both tv show and book, and can appreciate the strengths of both! 😁
Don’t let people poison you against seasons 7 and 8. Sure, the dialogue suffers from running out of source material. But there is a lot to love, and for some reason people feel the need to tell others to be ready for these seasons to suck instead of allowing them to experience it themselves without prejudice
Just found your channel. I have never watched a reaction in this format and was not sure I would like it but was surprised and loved it. Subbed and will be following.
I recommend them all. As a book reader myself, there is still a lot of good in the final seasons. There are for sure things I did not like and pretty much anyone that loves the series will tell you the last season or two feel like they were very rushed. From what George RR Martin himself said, the last season probably should have been 3 seasons worth in length. I do not like the ending, but it is still worth a watch and for you to make your own opinion on. If the books are ever finished, maybe they will turn out better for what I want out of the series. Look forward to hearing your thoughts on the future episodes of the show. :)
I think there are some really stand out episodes in the final seasons, maybe collectively, or even season 8 being completely rushed. I don't think its as bad as people say.
U should deffo watch it Dont listen to the ppl that say „the last seasons are trash“ Thats THEIR Opinion They lack a lot but they are NOT TRASH Ppl tend to get emotional when their favorite character does not get their „head canon ending“
@@sqdn Yeah I’m going into the later seasons with the expectations that I probably won’t enjoy them as much as the start of the series, as currently season 1 is incredible and I don’t think seasons 7 and 8 will match that

Great review, glad you really enjoy the show, really hope to see some reactions to at least a couple of episodes per season, maybe the last two episodes of each season, it would be interesting to see the reaction of someone who has already read the books and make some comparisons, bet you eill have lots of views.
@@smoker-ku1er That’s a great idea, there’s some events in season 1 that are coming up that I want to do a live reaction to because I’m not emotionally prepared (rip Ned Stark), thanks for the comment!

Hey check out History & Lore after each season. Animated, narrated by the characters, and told from their perspective. Also, no copy write. Many channels live stream those. Or at least premiere them. Can't wait for this!!!
Fellow book reader here! I think ABSOLUTELY you should watch the rest of the show. The content material essentially runs out at the end of Season 5, but in my opinion Season 6 is the absolute best season of GoT. You will see how the storylines start diverging and simplifying as the show progresses. Many characters are cut, or merged together, but that also means that Books and Show become two essentially different entities that can be enjoyed independently. Definitely looking forward to this journey! It would actually be interesting to hear your thoughts on the differences between the two as well.
Thanks for the advice, I've decided I'm going to watch the whole series and I've heard other people saying that season 6 has one of the best finales, so I'm really looking forward to it! Once I've finished season 1 I'm going to do a video comparing it to the first book because it'll be interesting to see what differences there are! :)
I would recommend watching the entire series. While the seasons that go beyond where the books are lose something in the process because they no longer have George's incredible writing as a guide, and especially in the last couple of seasons everything felt so rushed because the showrunners wanted to wrap it up (when it could have easily been filled out into 10 full seasons), and time periods have been compressed, without the little "throwaway line" asides that give context to it (like Cersei's "we've been traveling for a month, surely the dead can wait", and others similar to that), the same jumps ahead in time that were present in season 1 are still there, just not presented or explained as well, and that heavily contributed to the dissatisfaction with those later seasons (there were a lot of jokes and memes about their "time traveling". Despite their faults, the post-season 5 seasons do have their moments, and every one of the final seasons (yes, even the oft-hated season 8) have moments and episodes that really work. As long as you understand that the books are the books and the show is the show, you should enjoy the journey.
Love Arya too and the young actress went well beyond what she was asked to do by acting left handed to be true to the book even though she’s right handed.
Only you can decide if you want to watch the whole thing or not. I think you have to decide how this will affect your eventual enjoyment of the last 2 books. While the show may spoil some of the major plot points of the books, I found the books to be a unique pleasure regardless of the show, so I was able to enjoy both in different ways. Think of the show like a "summary" of the books. They are correct that season 5 is really the last season that can draw on the text of the books. The producers did receive guidance from Martin regarding the general direction of the show, but they pretty much went off on their own, so the books are bound to be very different in the details after that point. Plenty of people don't like the quality of the last 3 seasons. I have mixed feelings about them. Mostly I find them rushed, without much of the "court intrigue" that makes the books and the first 5 seasons so special. The producers wanted to do "big" scenes, like major battles, and some of these are some of the best ancient battle scenes that I've seen, but the conversations are shorter and lacking the "fire" of the first seasons. Actually, since they didn't have the budget for big battles, even some important ones like the Battle of the Green Fork are not shown, but the series does not suffer as a result. All in all, I don't think it is worth skipping a the last few seasons unless you are a book purist. For myself, the decision came down to simple math. George RR Martin has been writing the latest book for close to 13 years, and aparrently is still not close to finished. He is 76 years old, and while I hope he lives a long life, you really have to wonder if he will have time to finish the last 2 books, particularly when you consider that he is also working on at least two other series (House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms) as well as other writing. Enjoy what you can while you can.
@@MagicAl56 That’s great advice, thank you! I think I will watch the whole series because I’ll be able to separate it from the books at that point and appreciate both the show and books for different reasons, plus it would be far too tempting to watch the later seasons knowing they’re out there!
@@BeckyDoesBlog Yes. I forgot to mention temptation. It's not a spoiler to say that every season ends with a cliffhanger, so really, how can you possibly stop watching after seeing what happens at the end of any particular season? You can't. You just can't. When I watched it the first time, there were about 8 to 10 months between seasons, and it was excrutiating!

Absolutely brilliant video, Unfortunately i am one who has watched the show before reading the books, in that way I am kind of facing the dissapointment of the fact that there are several characters and scenes that were missing from the show looking back on it. though similarly there are points in the show which i wish could've been integrated into the books. At this point in time I am reading A Feast For Crows, which has been brilliant (especially Cersie's POV chapters) and cannot wait to get to A Dance with Dragons and reaquaint myself with the more familiar characters, Good though it has been so far. Anyway, looking to future content on Game of Thrones. Keep up the Great work!

Great great video, thanks ! Can't wait for episode 2. Although the seasons 5 to 8 will get worse and worse written, I think you must watch them too. The quality of the production, costumes, acting and soundtrack are so high, some scenes are so iconic that it's worth it.

What an interesting idea, very different from the usual reactions. I must admit I didn't read the books until after I'd seen Season 3, but to see it from the perspective of someone who clearly knows the books very well, that's going to be fascinating. And we all know the show by now, we don't need to see it. And of course you should watch the whole thing - let's be honest now, we may never see any more books, sad though that may be. There are certain things I'd love to discuss! As others have suggested, do watch the 'Histories and Lore' at the end of every season, they will help show up some deviations from the books. I do hope we're going to get an episode-by-episode guide through the show, not just a round-up. And there was one thing lacking - we had your thoughts on the casting for Jaime Ned, Jon, Benjen, Arya, Bran . . . and nothing on Tyrion. What were your thoughts on My Lord Imp? I'll be going back to watch some of your reviews of the books. It has been quite a while since I read them. I did load them all onto my Kindle for my summer holiday this year . . . and then of course didn't read a word. 🙄 I'm not sure where you live but I'm near London and I'm an avid theatre-goer, so I have seen, in the flesh and often very close up: Jon Snow (three times, he's great); Dany; Varys; Pycelle; Mance; Brienne twice; Selyse Baratheon; Asha Greyjoy (she has a different name in the show), three times; and Ellaria Sand, about four times I think! Yes, I'm a GOT stalker and they have a restraining order out on me! Great video and an instant subscribe.
Thanks for the comment! I wonder if my perspective will be different because I've read the books beforehand, I'm interested to find out! I've decided to watch the whole series because I'm too intrigued by the later seasons, even if a lot of people say they are bad haha. It's hard to comment much on the casting until I've watched more of the series, but on first impressions I think they've casted Ned, Arya, Jon and Robb really well. Jaime wasn't what I was expecting, but I think compared to Cersei they look like twins and as a pairing they work well together. Tyrion is one of a kind, I think Peter Dinklage delivers Tyrion's witty remarks very well so I'm excited to see more of that as the series progresses! He's one of my favourite characters in the books so I have high expectations, but so far I'm impressed with the casting for him. I'm a little unsure on Sansa's character currently, although she barely had any screentime in episode 1 so it's hard to comment on her properly! Overall they've done a good job with the casting based on my first impressions. Very jealous you've seen a lot of them in the flesh!
First of all: may I ask where you're from? Love your accent! Second: the decision on whether you should watch the whole show or just up to when the books end is entirely up to you. Whatever you decide it's nice to see someone be as excited about it as you are. I hope it lasts till the last episode. Some of the greatest thing that happen on the show are not in the books like bronn for instance hes not a big character in the book but in the show hes easily top 5 greatest character
I'd say keep watching so you can see the disappointing stories and wrap ups. Itll put an end to any wondering. They sorta just throw things at you that don't feel earned. The pay offs don't pay off. I think It would be good to know what they did just to keep an idea in your head about what could be different in future books to come. The show brought me to the books (the other way round to you), and then the books spoiled the rest of the show for me because they are so much better. I read the books at the end of season 5 and I've been obsessed with ASOIAF ever since. GRRM left GOT after season 4 for a very important reason ( I won't spoil it for you) and the quality gradually dropped as a result, still with some absolute epic episodes in seasons 6 & 7. There are possible spoilers for TWOW in season 6 and the season finale for that season is practically an Oscar contending film. Personally, I have banished the last two seasons from my brain so they don't exist for me. Even though many S6E10 is considered as the best single episode by probably a majority of the GOT fandom, mine is S4E10 (The Children) for many reasons. @@BeckyDoesBlog The first 4 seasons are an almost perfect adaptation of books 1-3, with some changes and some scenes that aren't great. Seasons 5-6 are still good with some great episodes, but the quality starts to become uneven, and some story lines don't work too well. Season 7 throws all logic and reason out the window in order to force the plot along, and season 8 is sadly the worst crash & burn in the history of TV.

Enjoy!

@@arctan2010 Wow massive respect to her, I think they’ve casted Arya’s character perfectly so far and I’m so glad because she’s one of my faves!

@@rigobartolome5963 Wow I didn’t realise that, no wonder the deer looked so real haha! That makes sense, I noticed that they also paid a lot of attention to the mortality aspects (I.e., the guy’s head getting chopped off - I really hope that’s not real 😅). I hope you’re enjoying the books so far
@@BeckyDoesBlog I finished fire and blood, and 2 of the 3 novellas of the knight of the seven kingdoms. Just the last dunk and egg stories and onto those big boys. Lol.
Happy watching for what is, for all the complaints from fans like me, a truly ground breaking tv show.
@@thecockerel86 I’m really excited to watch the rest, I’m going to watch the whole series even if the later seasons aren’t as good because the books will forever remain unfinished so at least the show is somewhat finished instead 😂 I find that books are always better than the TV adaptations of anything, but so far season 1 of GoT is incredible and does the book justice!
So, will you make blilnd reaction videos on GoT?
@@McCallaFilms Yes I will, I just today uploaded a blind reaction to season 1 episode 9, and want to make more videos like that 😁
You're in for a wild ride 😜
@@Oloviye I’m not ready for it!
I think im in love...
@@juanmarodriguez6010 😁❤️
All Jeffery did was ride a horse, lol. And that was enough for you, lol😂😂😂 that's too funny. I'm on the first book. What's great is that it's like word for word from book to screen with minor characters like Sansa friend missing. Some things make sense from the screenplay perspective when writing for the show.
Will we have a reaction channel on it?
@@Necrothep I’m going to do a reaction to the important parts of S1
@@BeckyDoesBlog Great to hear. It's my opinion but since you read the book, pointing out the major differences might be something very different that has not been seen often in these kind of channels. I understand it might be a lot of work but you'll stand out quite a lot and the community is very strong and steady. Or, at least doing by episode when the story starts to take different approaches like start of s03.
I am quite interested in your thoughts by episodes. That'd be refreshing and not only waiting for the cursed 09 for reactions.
But whatever you want as long as you're having as much fun as we do. :)
The final season is disappointingly rushed and there are some issues with the ending. I think it’s worth watching it all. We aren’t going to get the last two books so even though it’s flawed it’s the only ending we are going to get.
@@GentleGiantJason You’re absolutely right, I need an ending to this so I’ll watch the whole series!
ON ALL GODS NAME DO NOT GIVE HER SPOILERS ON THE SHOW
omg thank you for this, I didn't even consider that there will be changes in the TV show that aren't in the books that I don't know about yet haha!
I love reaction channels, but when the reactor says “I already watched the movie” I feel it’s not going to seem real. The first reaction I ever watched was about the red wedding and it was so good that I became obsessed with them. You know too many spoilers. I like watching reactors laugh, cry, be amazed, etc and they don’t need to make comments until the end. I wish you luck though
very good video - an EY accent I think - happy to subscribe - I hope you watch all GOT.
@@johnukey Thanks for commenting, I’ve decided I’m going to watch the whole series and I’m so excited 😁
I don’t like the show because how they treat my favorite characters but first four seasons are good if you don’t think much about the details of the book. Last four seasons however ...
I dont see how you could just stop where the books stop. At the rate that George is going, you will never see anymore books.
@@burnout_2017 That’s a good point, the books will always remain unfinished so I might as well at least finish the show!
@@BeckyDoesBlog im going to enjoy your GoT series just for the fact that you seem as excited about seeing the books come to life as i did when the LoTR came out. I really wanted to compare my imagination with what it was going to look like on the screen and i was not disappointed. Everything looked just like i pictured it in my mind and it blew my mind.
@@burnout_2017 That’s exactly what I’m so excited for with GoT, seeing everything come to life like you’d imagined and hoped for is an indescribable feeling!
Ah, it must be pure bliss to watch GOT for the first time, makes me want to rewatch it again. Unfortunately, it would take me ages, as I tend to pause the video every time Cersei is in the frame. And speaking of great casting, I'm glad you singled out Harry Lloyd, his Viserys is so deliciously delusional!
@@dopetimist It’s such a great feeling watching it for the first time so I’m trying to fully appreciate the feeling! There’s some incredible casting in this TV show
Oh please film reactions to the show! 🙏
Don't believe the extreme hate opinions, the series is flawed to be sure but not nearly as bad as is so often said.
@@666ATB666 Thank you, I’ll definitely film more reactions and I’ll finish the whole series too because I’m interested in why people think it’s so bad! 😁
@BeckyDoesBlog I haven't read the books so I can only speak as a fan of the show but I think what most people hate about the end is how rushed it is, and it definitely is and it feels awkward. And the writing gets ridiculous at times, but the characters are amazing and for myself that's enough to find true love for the whole series. As for the ending I know there are many things people hate about it but aside from the clunky execution it makes sense in the context of the tv version. I completely understand and respect how ASOIAF book readers are more disappointed though so I'm curious to see how you react. It would be great if you filmed yourself watching the episodes and reacting live like a typical tv reactor but even if it's just these recaps please keep going!
@@666ATB666 That makes a lot of sense, it’ll be interesting to see what I think to the later seasons when they no longer have the books to base it from! I’d like to do live reactions to some big events that I know are coming up that I’m not emotionally ready for 😂
You should definitely watch it, its the greatest show ever but with worst ending.
@@PrincepratapsinghRawat-cw5em It’s a shame the ending is bad but I’m going to watch the whole series because I’m loving it so far!
@@BeckyDoesBlog same here I just started watching it again it's so damn good
i think that you watching the later seasons might be good, if for no other reason than that i think its rare for GoT reactors to have read the books first! most of em just watch the show, and never read them, so your videos will be a bit more unique than most others!
@@ccorvid Thanks, I’d heard that more people have watched the show than have read the books, so it’ll be interesting to see if that changes the way I view the series! I’ll definitely finish the whole thing, even if the later seasons are bad 😂
@@BeckyDoesBlog yeahhhh. post season 4 isn't great, but at least you'll be able to actually know how and why it's bad, rather than only having a vague sense of a slight/ major decline in dialogue and character 😅
Season 7 isn't great. 8 is mostly really bad. There are a few other silly plot changes along the way. HOWEVER, season 6 is really good, in my opinion.
And I want to see your opinions on the bad episodes anyway. 🙂
The terrible wrap-up DID NOT ruin the whole series for me. I still go back and watch it again and show it to people because it changed my life. Plus, the books haven't been tarnished. They will come to their proper George RR Martin conclusion... eventually...
I very much look forward to your insites on the entire show 🖤
@@CottageGremlin Thank you! That’s a really helpful perspective, so far episode 1 was incredible and I’ve heard amazing things about the show in general so surely seasons 7 and 8 can’t ruin that! I’ll watch the whole series 😁

@@uservenuyadav Hiya!
Nah, watch the entirety of the show. It’s a better perspective on everything. Despite the final few seasons, there are great moments in them. If you don’t like it, you’ll always have the books haha
@@117AROD Yeah that’s very true, I’ve decided I’m going to watch the whole series but keep my expectations relatively low compared to the first few seasons!
Whether you should watch the show's later seasons depends on how sensitive you are to dips in writing quality. Some of us could recognize the smell of hollywoodized trash even in the highly praised fourth season, and don't get me started on the seasons following it, they don't feel like George R. R. Martin's writing at all.
@@dopetimist I think I will watch the whole series, but I’m preparing myself for the later seasons to be nowhere near as good as the first one that I’m currently watching 😅
I made this fatal mistake of reading the books first. They see so good, tho damn unfinished annoyingly.
The first few seasons are incredible. However, the last few are utter garbage, it won't spoil the books for you but you'll be crying by the end for all the wrong reasons 🤣

@@nepq1of1 Thanks, I’m worried the later seasons would ruin my perception of the show ☹️
Interesting. Reading is much worse than watching something in terms of gore in my opinion. My imagination is much more graphic than anything Dan and David can show me...
That said certain book events are worse on the show, not because of gore but because of changes to the narrative...
Interesting! I always seem to be able to handle gore better when it’s not being shown to my eyes.
