    Very, very pleased with the chance to meet with Stanley like this. I feel like this channel is moving into a new gear now, who knows what's next!? I have some ideas but let's see. If you liked this content, definitely give a like and subscribe. The bigger this channel gets the more chances of big things like this happening again. And finally, THANK YOU to all of you for believing in me and giving me such support and kind words. It all means a lot to me. Have a great weekend. - Damien.

      A very informative and comprehesive interview, Damien! I should get to watching The Colour Out Of Space 1 of these days. Personally, I think At The Mountains Of Madness is ripe for a modern retelling. Here's my take:
      The scientific expedition is the same, with the clothes and technology updated for the 21st century. Its goals are no longer to discover a new continent's geology but rather, continue decades of grim findings concerning climate change. The Elder Things are still uncovered, the massacre at poor Lake's camp still happens, and they still discover the city. The key difference is that, to account for satellite imagery finding nothing in Antarctica since Lovecraft wrote the novella a century ago, the Elder Things' war against the Shoggoth and Cthulhu's Spawn now includes an energy field that cloaked and protected the entire megapolis. When Dyer and Danforth see the vistas of the city in the sky on their plane ride through the mountains, Dyer speculates the field is still strong enough to conceal the city but has become weak enough for physical penetration. They still escape the Shoggoth and return as per normal. At the end, the reason a new expedition is returning is because the field has failed altogether, exposing the ancient megapolis to satellite imagery and dominating the world's newspapers. Dyer ends by speculating that just as climate change helped to doom the Elder Things, so now will man's folly in both explorng the unknowable and wrecking his own planet converge to unleash the Shoggoths and other unspeakable horrors.
      What do you think for a modern adaptation?

      @@Sirodemirra he was fired for being accused of beating his wife, big difference. As a long time fan of your channel, I think i speak for your 15k subscribers when i say you deserved this interview. May it be the first of many victories for Lovecraftians worldwide. And if the director himself sees this comment somehow, we are a relatively small, but highly passionate group and even though i rented your film from Redbox before, in respect to your generosity for doing this interview i am going to pick up the blu ray of color out of space just to show my appreciation. Like with Lovecraft himself, artistic success is not based on the number of fans YOU receive in your lifetime, but on the number of fans your WORK receives after your lifetime. Hopefully this interview will still be viewed a century from now by a future generation of people who share a love for the unknown, and a passion for the
    mythos we have all been escaping into since the 1920’s.
    With highest regards,
    Clayton Bernal

    In that I recently (middle of last year) discovered The Mound and have taken it to heart a bit I can see a resemblance in the slow burn up to the moment the gloves of madness come off build up between a trip and HPL. By the way... Hippocampus Press is releasing a hardbound ultimate ST Joshi valrum edition of the Volume IV rewrites and inspired by fiction of HPL including THE MOUND. @@ArkhamReporter I see. I've gone over the story, and I have now decided to throw my hat into the ring and make some stuff myself for the Mythos in ZA. The other option is to chuckle at the possibility that the south of the African continent either was missed by all the big stuff of the ancient peoples just managed to kick all the stuff out of the region.

    This man is the last great director on earth. He managed to modernize Lovecraft, without turning it into shit.
    Also Nicholas Cage is now only second to Bruce Campbell on my favorite actors list now.

      @@sister_stygian2678 yeah i just got it a couple months ago on dvd. I had to order it from europe. If u liked it, there is another movie thats not really a sequel, not really a remake, but essentially a companion piece to horror express. Its a british black and white film with peter cushing as a scientist and mountain climber whose research in yetis leads to a team climbing the himalayas and encountering a mysterious creature known as “The Abominable Snowman.” Its also called The Abominable Snowman, if i didnt make that obvious lol.

      Is it okay to talk about someone's profession and work without turning it into criminal investigation for a change?
      Or has MeToo spoilt people's definition of an interview for good?

    • @RogersGirl88
      @RogersGirl88 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      If rumors can ruin your opinion of an artist’s work, then you will be very disappointed to discover most creative type people have a different side to them. Basically, what do I care if a creator’s personal life is this way or that, so long as the thing they create is enjoyable? If you let “some rumor” color your objective opinion of a story and how it is artistically presented, you will lose out on 99% of the stories in this world.

    Richard Stanley, do you think we are fools? Non-Euclidean geometries are known since the 1830s... as they were known by your teachers, and by Lovecraft too. And the fractal/chaos theory connection is far-fetched to the point of nonsense. It is sad to lose interest and respect in the speaker after a couple of minutes. Why talk about mathematics if there's no need?
