Yeah, gunpods hamper the performance a lot more than people think. At least nowdays we have the option to switch to the 20mm main gun which I find more reliable and nicer to use in air to air fighting than the old 30mm. And to think I've spaded mine back then it only had 30mm :D
NO. The G-6 is very front heavy. The best 109 in-game is the G-2 tier for tier wise. G-14 is also very competitive. And if we talk about SIM the G-6's front heaviness is even more pronounced.

same bro :D anybody who's struggling to make the k4 work should look up Eric Hartmann documentaries and read up on how he flew in combat. he was a patient passive agressive and a through and through opportunist. that's the 109 tactic in a nutshell. and it's all about using the 109's vertical energy retention and maneuverability. usually if you dont get a clean kill in your first pass you have to extend, burst climb and reassess the situation. if an enemy is good you'll have to frustrate him and force him into errors such as trying to follow you into vertical maneuvers..
The k4 is quite a sexy beast, but I prefer the g6 cuz for visual is way sexyer and my country had the g6 as the last imported german plane. Romania here.

"I haven't even spaded mine" That seems to be the issue. If you don't have all of the engine upgrades (*especially* the engine injection), the K-4 performs poorly to below average. I didn't start liking the plane until I fully decked out the engine and until I got used to the playstyle. I used to main British fighters, I didn't really play many German planes or Bf 109s for a long time.
It didn't take me that long to spade my K-4. Took me about a day in total. I did have a premium account though. But yes, I can agree that later tier IV aircraft and especially tier V and beyond have some ridiculous RP demand.
I felt the same way. Mine is almost spaded and it's a beast for what it is. Easily my favorite German prop plane for what it is. Just the stock can be infuriating.
K4 gets ruined by the gun pods, K4 is a extremly fast plane at high altitude without the gun pods, Spaded the K4 can out run even fast high alt planes like the P51-D30 in a straight line. I´d say you are ruining its energy fighting capabilities with the gun pods and you don´t like it because you haven´t spaded it. you don´t need to be passive, at least personally I don´t need to.
I generally fly it with the gun pods because I feel its performance is so strong that there's no reason not to get a bit of extra firepower, but that is after spading it. Before spading it's best not to use the pods to maintain good flight characteristics.
I actually really like this thing, granted mine is still stock and a stock K4 is kinda shite, but I legitimately felt like I could solo an entire team, especially in one of my recent games, I felt if I managed to get the jump on all the enemy planes, I could win the match for my team (I was the last guy) but sadly they got the jump on me and the P51-H completely wrecked me from above, didn't even realize I was flying right into them since I was just coming out of the clouds after shooting down an A26, and they got me almost right after I got out of the fluffy white stuff
Like all BF 109s its a shaiseshow stock but the K4 fully spaded , its glorious and a huge difference being end tier the performance difference. Forget the pods xD they're for bomber spam, too heavy on the wings not a big enough cal anyway to justify use like the FWs get.
I've come to learn that if spit doesn't like it, then I probably like it. E.g. Him: loves getting straight into the action, hates waiting and playing strategically, hates bombers, isn't patient. Me: like to take my time to plan, plays cautiously, loves bombers, has 2k hours in Arma 3
I love the g6 without gun pods because I find the single 20mm more than effective enough and the gun pods require convergence whereas the standard armament does not need convergence making engagement distance very flexible.
I had nothing but problems with the K4 It was a pain an absolute pain to play for me, I unlocked the engine and Injection and now it must be one of my favorite planes in the entire game.
The 109 K-4 suffers severely from basically all drag and performance decreases from missing upgrades or battle damage. The gunpods make you slightly slower, but as was said, the added firepower is needed to make shots count. The other major part of the K-4 is effective use of the MEC system. Controlling your radiator increases your speed by 5-20 mph in basically any scenario. You need to be able to WEP infinitely to truly use this planes speed, but can't open the radiators too much, as they'll cause a nearly unimaginable amount of drag. Every other MEC aspect of the K-4 can be left to automatic, making this plane a good one to start testing manual on.
Exactly "you need to be patient". You climb for the first 6 minutes to attempt to get above the space fires and p38s. Or wait till they all get distracted by targets down low. Then you drop, fire a burst and zoom climb back up. Repeat. If anything gets on your tail I cant really shake anything. Maybe I need to learn better defensive flying. But I cant shake shit.

This happens a lot to me: sometimes spits commit to the head on and, as I don’t except that because usually spitfire players dodge headons, and damage me a bit on my wings. I like the K4. I think it is a kick ass plane with or without the pods. I usually run the pods. Even with the pods it can out dogfight a majority of planes.
Usually the centre of gravity for a plane will lie on the rear part/half of the main wing.... Just consider the cog on the wing midline. Nothing to do with pilot placement, it might affect the overall cog but it is not one of the criteria to affect the aircraft design.
As an experienced K4 pilot, I feel that i am put at a disadvantage when i put gunpods on. You face griffon spits and p51d30’s on the regular and the gunpods make it a bus compared to them. Once this thing hits 300 km/h it excels at energy fighting and booming and zooming. If you learn MEC prop pitches you can kill so much speed to make an enemy overshoot. If you put gunpods on it loses its advantage in energy retention and high speed turn
spacefires can't outclimb 109s lmao, the engine overheats after like 2 seconds, also they have literal garbage speed, so 109s vs spitfire is super easy for the 109 if the pilot isn't braindead
I find the k4 to be so difficult for me to use and knowing I wasn’t the only one ( or still isn’t) who finds the k4 to be difficult to play is very reassuring
Boom and zoom aka, dive on a plane, rip or get sandwiched under the enemy, and only gain half the altitude back up that you had when you dove and when you get back up there you are so slow that you get insta gibbed. Yeah, if thats your example of boom and zoom then yeah.
Also: A tip that has saved my life multiple times: Seriously. SERIOUSLY When you're diving and you get the overspeed warning, Use MEC. I usually have my binds on the number pad 1) press 0 to toggle engine manual mode 2) press 7 to toggle manual prop pitch 3) hold 9 to increase pitch to 100% IF your engine is idled, nothing will happen to it. Your airspeed will basically drop fast af. If it isn't idled, rip your engine. I usually use this while diving on enemies so I don't have to level and lose speed. Toggle the prop pitch once or twice and you're perfectly fine to dive from any height ever. Also works if youre coming in WAY too hot for landing. Just idle, prop to 100 and watch the airspeed go down. The K-4 isn't a BnZ, it is an energy fighter, and should be used mostly in the vertical making use of the excellent power to weight of the aircraft. You should use IAS instead of true air speed in realistic, because IAS will tell you what forces your plane are under (for example true airspeed may tell you that the plane is well above its stall speed, but when you switch to IAS you will find it is about to stall.), also don't climb by angle but climb by IAS, which for the 109 is about 240km/h, also remove those gun pods because with them you are just trying to make the 109 a worse 190. While it isn't necessary, I would highly recommend using the K-4 with MEC, because with the radiator fully opened using MEC you can use WEP for extended periods of time without overheating, which boosts the power output of the K-4 from around 1600 HP to about 1900 HP.
260 km/h IAS is better to climb for the 109 K4, you lose power under 250km/h somehow. And radiotors on 60% is in most of the maps good enough, the later 109 variants dont overheat that much anymore.
The k4 is my favorite tier 4 aircraft it fits my playstyle perfectly also if the k4 is flown right it can decimate and outclass top tier prop planes griffon spits including the mk24 and 22 also the p51h due to the k4s insane power to weight ratio and vertical performance but when it comes to dive speed it lacks but you can make it work for chasing low tier jets by baiting them up at high altitude by lureing them to climb at you
how cant you play the K4? its like the best prop ever.. i even have a 1.3 K/D ratio in it.. at the end, when i had almost all upgrades, it was becoming more of a "climb, get 2-3 kills, win" at the start its abit shitty yea. was running with gunpods.

Why are you finding it difficult? You like the G-10, yet this has a higher P/W ratio, is significantly faster and is more aerodynamic (due to the retractable tail wheel). Also, for God’s sake! Use IAS!
Currently grinding the K-4. I just seem to get so unlucky in that plane. Pilot sniped from a B-17, Try split S and the plane catches fire. Seems like I can't do much. I think I will just play the G-14
Dunno why people would say the G55S is a bad plane. if you're not dumb you can pull 6 kill games easy K-4 havent spaded mine but its close. and i really only started flying it this week.
The 30mm its better for close attack While patiently waiting enemy for making mistake take ruler count your shot on screen and aim about 15cm for low speed target and 10cm high speed target shot only your 30mm cuz 15mm make you confused as fak then after grt that killed RTb cuz your ammo out then repeat

the youtube channel Adam 514 did a video comparing all 5.3 109s and the k4 came out on top in nearly every category. I wold recommend checking that video out.
Here are some of my opinions K-4 at 5.7 wouldn't work because it still has bf 109 flight model The only thing bad about the plane is it's flight model and the fact that it can't turn well at altitude, another bad thing is loss of thrust due to small propeller at low speeds. Stock grind makes you wanna commit die And there are some planes against which you can't do shit without team I think doras are better things to go for not only because they are better BnZ-ers apart from climb rate but because they have much better stock grind BTW I forget something, it's the best tier IV 109 in both climb turn and high alt performance

I can't master the G6 with the 30, so I'm not even going to try the K-4... But Pods mess with a 109, just leave them home, if you want guns, get a FW instead... Because a 109 is not about the turnrate, it is about the energy... A 109 is a pure energy fighter, you don't turn with it is you dont have the energy, you dont dive if you don't have the energy. An energy fighter is not passive at all, your head is calculating your opponent 24/7, your head is constantly working in order to get the kills you want. The G-2 is just way too OP in its mm that it is more forgiving to what you can and want to do. I play the G-2 constantly in 5.0 games and pull constant wins out of my rear just because I know when to strike and who to kill.
If u dont play the K4, you are missing out alot. Once u go through the pain of getting the injection modification, you will laugh at how dirty it feels to climb

I generally fly it with the gun pods because I feel its performance is so strong that there's no reason not to get a bit of extra firepower, but that is after spading it.

While it isn't necessary, I would highly recommend using the K-4 with MEC, because with the radiator fully opened using MEC you can use WEP for extended periods of time without overheating, which boosts the power output of the K-4 from around 1600 HP to about 1900 HP.
260 km/h IAS is better to climb for the 109 K4, you lose power under 250km/h somehow. And radiotors on 60% is in most of the maps good enough, the later 109 variants dont overheat that much anymore.
109 K4 has the best turning compared to any 109, be grateful that its there

I totally agree, hate the K4 but love the G2 even tho really they’re The same plane just 1 BR higher.
Once you get 20mm belts it’s a lot better.
The k4 is my favorite tier 4 aircraft it fits my playstyle perfectly also if the k4 is flown right it can decimate and outclass top tier prop planes griffon spits including the mk24 and 22 also the p51h due to the k4s insane power to weight ratio and vertical performance but when it comes to dive speed it lacks but you can make it work for chasing low tier jets by baiting them up at high altitude by lureing them to climb at you
Technically mk22/24 and p51h are better in almost every way but worse players play them so they loose to k4.
I used to be so good with the K4, hopped on first time since 2013 and i can barely get a kill with it lol.

how cant you play the K4? its like the best prop ever.. i even have a 1.3 K/D ratio in it.. at the end, when i had almost all upgrades, it was becoming more of a "climb, get 2-3 kills, win" at the start its abit shitty yea. was running with gunpods.

Why are you finding it difficult? You like the G-10, yet this has a higher P/W ratio, is significantly faster and is more aerodynamic (due to the retractable tail wheel).

Currently grinding the K-4. I just seem to get so unlucky in that plane. Pilot sniped from a B-17, Try split S and the plane catches fire. Seems like I can't do much. I think I will just play the G-14

To me the bf-109 k 4 is one of the easiest 109s to beat in a dog fight.
The 30mm its better for close attack
While patiently waiting enemy for making mistake take ruler count your shot on screen and aim about 15cm for low speed target and 10cm high speed target shot only your 30mm cuz 15mm make you confused as fak then after grt that killed RTb cuz your ammo out then repeat

the youtube channel Adam 514 did a video comparing all 5.3 109s and the k4 came out on top in nearly every category. I wold recommend checking that video out.

Here are some of my opinions
K-4 at 5.7 wouldn't work because it still has bf 109 flight model
The only thing bad about the plane is it's flight model and the fact that it can't turn well at altitude, another bad thing is loss of thrust due to small propeller at low speeds.
Stock grind makes you wanna commit die
And there are some planes against which you can't do shit without team
I think doras are better things to go for not only because they are better BnZ-ers apart from climb rate but because they have much better stock grind
BTW I forget something, it's the best tier IV 109 in both climb turn and high alt performance

I can't master the G6 with the 30, so I'm not even going to try the K-4...
But Pods mess with a 109, just leave them home, if you want guns, get a FW instead... Because a 109 is not about the turnrate, it is about the energy...
A 109 is a pure energy fighter, you don't turn with it is you dont have the energy, you dont dive if you don't have the energy.
An energy fighter is not passive at all, your head is calculating your opponent 24/7, your head is constantly working in order to get the kills you want.
The G-2 is just way too OP in its mm that it is more forgiving to what you can and want to do. I play the G-2 constantly in 5.0 games and pull constant wins out of my rear just because I know when to strike and who to kill.
If u dont play the K4, you are missing out alot. Once u go through the pain of getting the injection modification, you will laugh at how dirty it feels to climb

I hate this plane, I suck at it, Im being driven mad cause it's turning just feels so slow and if I have some behind me I feel like it's over even though I can sometimes dive and then climb faster than my opponent but they just headshot me half the time
