It is interesting that you said abyss... Because Radiohead's and Thoms music can be either very inspiring or depressing depending on where your life and psyche is at... I love Radiohead, and to find out that my favorite musician, Neil Young was a huge influence on them makes total sense and respect them more because Neil is a god... We are all divine beings if we stay free of soul death that the systems of greed in society try to enforce upon us... But I used to think that melancholy music like Thom's is a bad thing because it can be like an abyss of wallowing in despair rather than seeing how much amazing wondrous possibilities there are all around us... When I heard "The Numbers" by Thom and Johnny outside in beautiful refreshing nature I knew that that was my new favorite song from them "The system is a lie, ONLY PEOPLE HAVE THE POWER..." like when I found the message of John Taylor Gatto! Never stop feeling fascination for learning...
This video is wildly creative, but unfortunately the song itself is just another meandering, wailing vanity project for Thom. Thom wrote some truly mesmerizing songs in his early career, but that hasn't been repeated in a long time now. Nowadays Thom seems to think it's enough to close his eyes and moan along with a techno beat and call that creativity

First time I heard this song was in a trip to Belgrade back in 2017. An amazing trip via train from Greece to Serbia. We were a group of friends consisting of 2 girls and 3 guys. We have met one year before at the university and I ll never forget this times neither this trip. We were having the best time of our lives so far at the best age of ours. I was in love with one of the girls but she was playing me. It was the last night of the trip and we were having some beers at a pub. I remember I was stoned and drunk and kinda sad because I kept wondering wth she keeps treating me like that. Everyone else was enjoying the conversation at that time but I had this fuzz inside my head, the kind of fuzz when you can hear everything and nothing at the same time and I couldn't let a single word out of me. Then suddenly this song came on and for a moment I found peace inside. I was sure this was Thom's voice but I knew this wasn't Radiohead and that made me wonder. I quickly rushed to the barman to ask the name of it and he told me and I was really happy with that. I never heard of Atoms For Peace till that time. The other 4 members of our company noticed me getting up quickly and asked me what happened. I told them I really liked the song and I wanted to know the name of it. They gave me that look like "we believe you but there's smth you ain't telling us" . They were fuvking right. I wanted so bad to kiss her and I knew this wasn't possible at that time so I had the need to run away. Despite that, I discovered atoms for peace and I couldn't be more thankful to that barman that night. But still, every time I listen to this song I will remember her and that amazing trip and how awesome I felt at that age of mine. I know we haven't talked in years and the last time we spoke I talked really bad to you because of your behaviour towards me at that times but I want you to know I will always have a crush on you no matter what because I ll never be the same person I was before your very eyes.

There's something that is being done rhythmically in the bass line that if I'm not mistaken is meant to imitate the passage of time as perceived by consciousness. I'm speaking specifically of the bum-bum-bummmmmm-baba pattern. With the clickety-clack rhythm steadily moving ahead in the background, it feels to me that the initial "bum-bum" portion is the attempt to live at a pace that seems comfortable, and the "bummmmmm" is the slowing down to look around, either to see what's slipping past or just to notice how far you've fallen behind. This leaves the "baba" portion wherein the consciousness makes an attempt to catch up. It's hopelessly doomed, however, because it soon returns to comfort and lags behind again. There's also something being done rhythymically in the way the vocals are delivered that suggest the relationship between time and consciousness. The rhythym is something like "ba-baaaaaa ba-ba-baaaaaa baaaaaaaaaaaa" in the delivery of the verse and in the chorus it's "ba-Ba-BA BaaaaaaaaaaaaaaBaaaaaaaaaaaaBaaaaaaaaaaaa" You can ignore my idiot notation for now, but the the staggering of consonants seem to suggest a winding down of ones own battery. As a counter to the bass, the beginning rapid and staccato, and the drawn out portions are sung with increased vibrato, even as they fade. This, to me, suggests that the attempt to "keep up" is thwarted by the loss of energy as with a battery steadily losing charge. One of the beautiful things about music is the way this is communicated within the music itself. The lyrics point you towards a way of interpreting the music, which bears out explicitly through abstraction in a direct and immediate manner what words can only say "at a distance". Good music and visual art does this kind of thing all of the time, and it saddens me that a lot of folks don't pick up on it, or at least in my case are so devoid of the necessary vocabulary only fumble about for the words. When I was in college, I studied art and philosophy. It bothered me when a painting was critiqued and words were used to describe what the painting was "doing" and some of the snottier students might say something like "Well if that's what's in the painting, why not just say THAT" (referring to the words used). They were ignoring (perhaps intentionally) that the words were emptier, signalling a chain of cognition that while capable of evoking much, were paler reflections of raw emotion (or subtle emotion, for that matter) that the words could never get across as succinctly or powerfully. In addition, a proper painting might set off multiple parallel chains of cognition simultaneously, and these bifurcating paths could be revisited at will acting as a silent backdrop for contemplation of these very paths and the alternates suggested by the various perspectives viewing them. Finally, the enrichment of the engaged minds viewing the works could then extract more from other works presented or even reality itself, as giving multiple species of contour to what was in effect mere assortment of colour and shape might give rise to appreciation of the beauty of what surrounds us along with the potential for extraction of knowledge hidden in plain sight (or sound, as it were). Those that really follow this didn't need to read it. I for one, will save and reread what I wrote, because having an armory of conceptual defense for the pursuit of art and philosophy is becoming increasingly necessary in a world that reacts with hostility to that which doesn't immediately result in a machine with a crank that may be turned to print hollow financial reward. May those thus comported read and understand a work like Ozymandias, and recognizing that even the greatest works resist the passage of time, find the joys and fulfillment possible in partaking of the richness of the now.
this is the greatest music video I have ever seen. This has completely reaffirmed my absolutely blind faith in Thom Yorke, and more importantly, reaffirmed my confidence that the next record that Radiohead puts out will be absolutely fucking fantastic.

I don't know, just my thoughts. Oh and I love Thom Yorke and Flea, a couple of my favorite musicians, they created an amazing album!
One day i hope we get a piano version of this song. Thom's falsetto chorus will sound amazing in a clean piano version. It will be like the piano version of Ingenue.
Looooots of memories with this masterpiece. Especially 2:20 and after. It feels like a dimension opens up suddenly and everything starts to penetrate everything. After that, every single thing changes it's form and becomes whole and starts to move in a harmony.
its always the same story with radio head and now atoms for peace, with me first listen - what is this garbage ? second listen - alright not terrible, but not anywhere close to their good stuff third listen - this song is sick fourth listen - this one is going into my all time top 50 radiohead songs
Totally agree! This whole album was like that for me. Except for Ingenue. I liked that one on first listen. I think a lot of great music worth listening to doesn't (and maybe shouldn't) appeal to the ears on the first listen. You have to marinate on it awhile.

I had been stuck on Weird Fishes/Arpeggi for weeks and I couldn't find something that can satiate the dissatisfaction that welled up (WF is such a good track and something's kinda blocked me after listening it too much. It's good but you don't feel satisfied). Then I found this, BAM!. This is the key. The open flow.
Bass is lovely. I like the vid because it reminds me of mocha frosting and chocolate. I love both. What can I say? Have to say it sounds better than I remember, but it could be my headphones. The black hole is awesome. Cave sequence awesome, and do like added colors toward the middle and end.

"WOW" interesting
Beautiful, glad i stumbled across this
Hands down best song on the album...
Sonically the most perfect song I've ever heard
this is the greatest music video I have ever seen. This has completely reaffirmed my absolutely blind faith in Thom Yorke, and more importantly, reaffirmed my confidence that the next record that Radiohead puts out will be absolutely fucking fantastic.
You weren't wrong, it was fantastic!
Ahora es lo mismo pero en este caso con the smile..
si así de increíble es, como sonara el próximo álbum de Radiohead?
Just watched Dune last night and this video instantly came to mind.
Both music and visuals are amazing!
Its been a while since a video has completely blown my mind away. Such a perfection combination of imagination, concept, story, song, visuals and effects!
I want to meet or work with people who make this :D
Haleem ul Hassan reminds me of Sphongle visually. DMT music
His voice cuts through my soul like a knife
I come here literally every day
Thom Yorke is my musician for life
The video seems very fitting. Mysterious and vague but also really well done and beautiful.
thom yorke what a voice
2 years later still listening
@@smegul1464 are you still listening?
@@liquidmetal5616 always brother
@@smegul1464 it never gets boring i know
Always
This album gets better with time..it is a masterpiece now , the eraser is double masterpiece
But the Eraser....
All "Thom is a god" comments. Without Nigel this (A4P) would not be anywhere near what it is. Much respect Mr.Godrich for all the work you do. You have taught me a lot.
somehow brought tears to my eyes. I feel kind of vulnerable amidst watching / hearing it.
i saw the concert in paris. the best
I saw it in Philadelphia and Brooklyn. I agree. The best.
SOO COOL
+ERIK GUITARE COVER so am I, it was just awesome
so great. great artistry.
The whole music is a masterpiece but from 4:09 to the end this music is sublime... It goes deep into my very soul and rips it apart
This music calms me down when I'm upset😌
reminds me of the effects of certain stimulants and / antidepressants on some brains .
Thom Yorke vs Spiderman 3 LOL 😂
love afp... 💜
Probably best vocals ever recorded by Thom Yorke
"Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock."
no one's gonna talk about how mesmerizing the music video is
Verse 1]
Look out of the window
What is passing you by
If you really want this bad enough
You’re young and good looking
The keys to the kingdom
[Chorus]
Sooner or later
Sooner or later
Sooner or later
And before your very eyes
And before your very eyes
And before your very eyes
[Verse 2]
Old soul on young shoulders
How you’ll look when you’re older
Time's fickle card game with you and I
You have to take your chances
The book of forgiveness
[Chorus]
Sooner or later
Sooner or later
Sooner or later
And before your very eyes
And before your very eyes
And before your very eyes
Sooner or later
Sooner or later
Sooner or later
And before your very eyes
And before your very eyes
And before your very eyes
this is AWESOME! how did I miss out on this for so long, thom yorke+Flea is such a sweet combo along with the rest of the cast too what a super group
Thom Yorke, aphex, and squarepusher are the ones that keep me up always..
such beautiful melancholy..
Words can't express how pissed I am that radiohead isn't listened to more. Give people 50 more years to realize
Ingenious and Very Creative. I loved everything about it. You can't tear your eyes of these incredible visuals. The song is devastating.
Amazing video, on every level, the shades of blue in the sand to an earth-bending Thom, brilliant.
Beautiful video
Beautiful music
Beautiful everything
Thank you for this. My life is now improved.
I once drank an entire growler of beer from my work (a brewery) after my shift one day and watched this on repeat. After half the bottle i was crying my fucking eyeballs out. Ahh good times
I've been a huge fan of Thom Yorke and Radiohead and as of (2018) this is my first time finding out about this side project
same!
and I also love Tarkovsky
I lost my mind when they played this for us at the Hollywood Bowl. I can't believe people were walking out during it! Fools.
this song is a real companion for me.
@@martinrocha2584 this isn't a memorable vocal line to be able to hum. very impressive
This is best song to sing along to. Ever.
no
unless you're on drug.
I did this at work without realizing it and had my neighbors staring at me. I am NOT a good singer, especially trying to sing falsetto.
You know what he's saying???
If and only if you know the lyrics
Maybe this video be about change that happens in your life, and then as you get older so does the world around you, and as you die your world crumbles away into the earth, and remains as a piece of the past. I don't know, just my thoughts. Oh and I love Thom Yorke and Flea, a couple of my favorite musicians, they created an amazing album!
A treasure.
Thome Yorke has never smoked weed nor done a psychedelic his entire life, yet this encompasses pure Trippyness! he's genius!
One day i hope we get a piano version of this song. Thom's falsetto chorus will sound amazing in a clean piano version. It will be like the piano version of Ingenue.
all time trippiest music video
great bass line wow
Looooots of memories with this masterpiece. Especially 2:20 and after. It feels like a dimension opens up suddenly and everything starts to penetrate everything. After that, every single thing changes it's form and becomes whole and starts to move in a harmony.
Existe um gênio na terra, e ele se chama Thom Yorke ❤️
I'm in love with this song. I cant stop listening to it. Thom's voice is so hypnotic in every fucking way.
its always the same story with radio head and now atoms for peace, with me
first listen - what is this garbage ?
second listen - alright not terrible, but not anywhere close to their good stuff
third listen - this song is sick
fourth listen - this one is going into my all time top 50 radiohead songs
The last two Radiohead albums have been like that for me. Can't wait to hear the new album!
My taste must be on point, cos I always like their stuff on first listen.
lmfao
Totally agree! This whole album was like that for me. Except for Ingenue. I liked that one on first listen.
I think a lot of great music worth listening to doesn't (and maybe shouldn't) appeal to the ears on the first listen. You have to marinate on it awhile.
You have completely mimiced my mindset
I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said-“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”
Thom York is father Earth. :)
damian3182 pachapapa ;)
*Tom Yhork
Yhom Torke
And Bjork the mother? this video match with mutual core
Gnoll this video was done by the same director :)
Just beautiful... thank you.
nothing beats a first watch on a leap year day, visually and emotionally powerful music video - before your very eyes...
Bass is lovely. I like the vid because it reminds me of mocha frosting and chocolate. I love both. What can I say? Have to say it sounds better than I remember, but it could be my headphones. The black hole is awesome. Cave sequence awesome, and do like added colors toward the middle and end.
Very moving work of Art Love Thom. Do not want to lose him ever .
Love this song and such an AMAZING video.
That Thom Yorke man is so full of love, the only thing to under stand. Hail to him
