Most of the songs were written by Mike. And the rest of the group mostly commented during editing and changes to complete it. A small number of songs were written by Chester. But Chester was very unique during the performance and conveyed the feeling of the song in the best way. in a way that directly conveys the lyrics of the song to the heart of the audience
@@adventuredoods4699 Brad mostly helped with production and arrangement rather than lyrics, as I understand. But the whole band would give feedback to whatever Mike and Chester came up with.
@@DaP84 Far from the first step, since the lyrics were usually the last thing they would add to a song, at least in those early days. We even have a demo of this one, showing the track mostly done, with Mike singing an early draft of the lyrics. Can't even really call it a draft. More of improvised placeholder vocals.
tbh mike is not the type of depressed person who could sort all these lyrics by himself, chester had a great deal in lyrics writing wether you accept or not, mike was individually more involved in instrumental parts, keyboards, background layers and vocals and ofc mixing and producing songs
The fact that he’s no longer here makes this song hit even harder 😢 but it’s a brilliant song nonetheless linkin park forever and Chester always remembered ❤
The Catalyst is a really amazing track from them that should definitely be heard. MUsically it's a really epic piece of work, it has this fascinating relentless pace to it that's really compelling, and I love how Chester and Mike shared the vocals EQUALLY too.
"pretending, someone else can come and save me from myself, i can't be who you are" still remember this even didn't hear the song for years.. Minutes to Midnight are the best.. end of 2000s, laying in bed and radio play this gem, what a memory...
This has always been my favourite Linkin Park song. I first heard it on an MP3 player from one of my older brothers, and even though I could only speak a little bit of english back then and obviously didn't understood what this song was about, I could sing every word. Now, like 17 years later, I understand the song and it made it even better. Miss Chester so much. Love these guys.
I remember hearing about Chester's death and being saddened, and even devastated. But I was not surprised. It was in so much of what he sang, and while I always wished him the best I feared it wouldn't last. Thank you, Chester, and everyone else ever involved in Linkin Park (not just the main band), for giving us all a voice that spoke to my own experiences. I don't know who I'd be or where I'd be without them, but I'm glad I've been working in suicide prevention for nearly 5 years now. Maybe I'm not explicitly doing this work in Chester's name, but let's be real; I kinda am. Love you, king. Rest in Power.
His death has been the only celebrity death that has ever affected me. If someone like him couldn't fight his demons what chance do I stand... It's only a matter of time...
Finally, I've been waiting for this song to have your reaction and very deep analysis from your perspective. I can relate to what you are saying. Good job!
I cant listen to this song without crying but it such a great powerful song. Can't believe it is about to be 7 YEARS!!!! RIP Chester we love you always
Minutes to Midnight really did have a good amount of songs that had bittersweet or even dark lyrics. Like Leave out the Rest, Shadow of the Day, What I've Done, Given Up and Bleed It Out.
You could easily interpret this song as a time when the band were having a difficult time together (maybe considering breaking up) which happens to all good bands over the years Chester’s death gives it a different spin of course
This song was his cry for help and know one knew. I grew up with this band and it has always been my favorite band i never got to see them live but i really wish i had the money to see them when he was alive. Chester has some of the funniest moments on camera and smiling all the time but on the inside we know he was dealing with something aka depression. Rip Chester you will be missed by trillions of fans.
its a touching song chester was an amazing inspiration for so many people. This song is incredible.. that being said on a different note ive never seen a person with a birth mark in exactly the same place...
This song is amazing! I've been waiting for you to react to this one for ages. First heard it back in 2008, on the end credits of Twilight. Rip Chester.
Chester, you've left behind so many reasons to be missed.. your voice, your emotion, your passion, and most of all, the hope you'd given so many of us over the years. Thank you for saving my life and countless others
This song (and album) came out when they started being involved in a lot of philanthropic work and charity as well, so on another level, i think it's mainly a message about leaving the world a better place, and hoping that people remember you for that.
more linkin park - a light that never comes, bleed it out, breaking the habit, faint, lost in the echo, paper cut, one step closer, somewhere i belong, numb, what i've done, waiting for the end, blackout, the catalyst, in my remains, burn it down, lies greed misery, i'll be gone, victimized, roads untraveled, skin to bone, until it breaks, guilty all the same, until its gone, new divide, runaway, by myself, lying from you, from the inside, no more sorrow, shadow of the day,
classic bring me memories listen to this every time I listen to this back then now it back and kinda tear up because I miss chester so much hearing him made me more emotional
When my fiance took her life in 2009, I used this song at her funeral. Mainly for the lyrics "when my time comes, forget the wrongs that I've done, help me leave behind some reason to be missed". This song is always a hard one to listen to.
The chorus always makes me think of his passing. I know they wrote it together. I can’t help but think about Chester and what Chester is trying to tell us when he is gone in the chorus. I think I should also say when he says “and don’t resentment when you’re feeling empty”. It now makes me think of the anger that people felt of his suicide. Like why would he do that? How selfish of him. I personally didn’t feel that way. It just makes think of remembering the good times and memories of him. Leave out the bad moments when he died. Who cares what others say. When he went through so much and we can’t judge him. We are human and we all make mistakes and we can’t fix them all. I think that’s the message. It was such a basket case of all emotions and things that we still don’t know about or understand.
I can’t watch this but I’m sure it’s great-as are all your others. It’s the one song I have the most difficulty listening to. Rest in paradise, beautiful soul. ❤🙏🏻🎤
i've always loved this song and now it's such a heart break. when people say "oww one more light!!!" i'm like...what do you mean? have you heard this one?? like... faaack the first time i heard it after, also not really having listened it in a long time, i was a wreck.
So funny enough, i watched an interview with Mike shinoda, and he explained that when Chester was around and working with them, he was kinda an ass and would treat everyone poorly, so this song could almost be him saying sorry for all the shit.
Next time try watching the concert version so you can see every scream that really echoes in your ears, this is not a song, this is the heart-wrenching content...
When a person suffering in depression anxiety and someone who didn't experience that always said your just sad my friend don't think it seriously but. The one who suffered this will said that I can't be who you are
Drugs (legal and illegal) and alcohol really play a huge part in pushing troubled minds to the brink. I wish the world offered more compassion and help for our broken ...
Nobody resents you Chester, we cherish you. RIP
And miss him 🙏🏼😔

Yeah, but the topics were usually based on personal band discussions. That was a very common first step in the process of writing in LP
Don’t forget Brad helped write alot of their songs along side Mike..

I think He's talking about His problems, depressions, etc in this song. and He wants someone to help Him and talk.
Mike wrote these lyrics.
No this song is about the person wanting to be remembered by the things they’ve done, but no the bad things they’ve done
He wrote the lyrics or Shinoda?
@@PenneySoundsMike wrote almost everything ever. They were just nice enough to credit all 6, so they'd all make enough money out of it.

Mike wrote the lyrics to almost all of their songs.
and most of songs were inspired by chesters thoughts he shared with mike in their close friendship talks, mike said that himself once
almost all his song really related to chester himself

Love the Song because of the Lyrics. Very relatable for me

this is one of my top favorites from LP.
The i can‘t be who you are, feels to me like he talks to himself.
Like, his hurt true self talks to the strong person he show everybody around him.
Who else heard Numb in their head when she said “I can’t be who you ain’t me to be”?
This song (and album) came out when they started being involved in a lot of philanthropic work and charity as well, so on another level, i think it's mainly a message about leaving the world a better place, and hoping that people remember you for that.

No, you nailed it. "I can't be who you want me to be"
“Forget the wrong that I’ve done” it’s as if he knew one day he’d lose to himself and this is his apology
I’m so happy that you finally did this one. This has to be one of their most beautiful songs

The song was at the end of the first Twilight.
It is a very beautiful song but with the current context it is very sad and difficult to hear :((
He was telling us all along and we never paid attention 😢
It's sad and hurting 😓💔
Linkin Park - Shadow of the Day is another great song to react to!!!
Waiting for the End has some great singing on it.
React to Pearl Jam’s MTV unplugged set. Porch or Black.

When my time comes 🥺🥺🥺
I believe he wrote this after an argument with his wife. I can’t remember where I heard that.
Look into the chester and podesta connection 😊
Did he get podestaed or was he a podesta?
Podestrian. I just coined a new term.
Fun Fact: The music video was inspired by the Sci-fi movie Sunshine.
Numb please
