  • This Rocket League video covers everything you will need to know about flicks in tutorial and analysis style up until you get VERY advanced with them. I've watched many tutorials on this topic before but none of them go into as much detail as I do in this video, in my opinion.

    This video took a very long time to make. I got the idea during some coaching sessions when some players asked for tips on how to flick in Rocket League. They said they had seen plenty of tutorials on flicks before but none of them ever really explained flicks in the same way that I did and they all instantly had much more success than ever before after the tips I gave them. After going through that same experience with teaching flicks multiple times, I figured it was definitely time I make a Rocket League flick tutorial so everyone could learn from the same tips that I gave to those students that had so much success. No matter if you're bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond, champion, or grand champion, chances are, you can learn a lot from this video. I hope you enjoy!

    Your idea about cradling the ball is exactly the kind of thing I needed to hear. I've been struggling with consistency on flicking the ball. I've been following the advice of most others, which is to hold down jump so my car stays with the ball, but it wasn't always working out. Now I also need to work on dribbling, but I think it's good enough at this point to be able to work on flicks so I can pull them off in a game. Anyway, I think your idea of cradling the ball is going to make a difference for me. I tend to only tap jump anyway so now I just need to work in the movements for the cradle.
    Great work Wayton! Keep it up, man!

    • @Calebanton

      I mean, being consistent with them is pretty difficult. Anyone can dribble in soccer with 5 minutes of practice and shoot the ball decently. More of like a skill floor

    • @Calebanton
      @Calebanton 3 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      @@lleytonyang9207 I don't get what you're trying to say. Dribbling and the mechanics around it have a much higher skill floor to get a baseline consistency in rocket league. In soccer, you can get consistent faster, but your shots will be bad compared to a higher-level player. That's how a skill floor works

    • @lleytonyang9207
      @lleytonyang9207 3 ปีที่แล้ว +58

      Caleb1243 I disagree and I believe that getting CONSISTENT shots in soccer is so overlooked and people are always like “it’s just kicking a ball” when it’s really not. Obviously a person could kick a ball consistently but they couldn’t dribble with skill consistently in soccer.

    • @Calebanton
      @Calebanton 3 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      @@lleytonyang9207 I said the skill floor is high. I can go into a field and can dribble the ball downfield and kick it into the net 10/10 times with 0 practice. Not possible in rocket league, so rocket league has a higher skill floor

      Here's the pro version of it...th-cam.com/video/q5iQcnIRMa8/w-d-xo.html. The ball is sometimes going 190 mph (302 km/h)! Crazy stuff.

    Hey! I'm a mid gc who was looking for a way for a few months now to get better flicks. I bounced around pro vods for a while, and they do indeed use the cradle! I observed this before stumbling upon your video; I thought they were doing it simply so their flick has more follow-through, I didn't know it was to reduce the space between them and the ball. Now that I know this, my flicks have finally got to that next level; thank you, Wayton!

    Agree so much! Flicks are one of my strongest assets, and I resonate with pretty much everything you're saying. And you're also articulating things I feel like I know, but that I haven't put in to words. I really think you did a great job here :)

    I wish Id seen this sooner, its helped with my focus on flicks, and the cradle is something I havent seen much or thought about. In my practice the cradle portion is something I am having the most trouble with though. Most of which comes from not quite getting the turn/air roll spot on. Idk if you have it in mind yet, but I think an expansion on how to properly cradle could be invaluable.
    Anyways love your content and tutorials. My favorite one the one that Ive seen the biggest jump in skill/rank from has been your "sudden aerials" training pack!!

    "dribbling in rocket league is 10 times harder than in football"

      For someone who has never touched a soccer ball, its way harder to dribble in soccer than in a video game.

    I am not sure if you still read comments this late but I watched this video and have been trying to learn to flick for the first time using slow-motion and heavy mods. I started the game 2 months ago so it was quite a challenge but after about 4 hours in freeplay and local matches with mods, I can do a 45 flick constantly and I am working on a 180 just for fun now. Thank you so much!!!
