"Dockworkers at ports from Maine to Texas began walking picket lines early Tuesday in a strike over wages and automation that could reignite inflation and cause shortages of goods if it goes on more than a few weeks.
The contract between the ports and about 45,000 members of the International Longshoremen’s Association expired at midnight, and even though progress was reported in talks on Monday, the workers went on strike. The strike affecting 36 ports is the first by the union since 1977."

I’ve worked in logistics in transportation almost my entire adult career. I’ve worked with drivers who deliver and pick up from ports and our blue collar workers run this country PERIOD. When I worked in retail transport I used to call my drivers Santa Claus because they got the stuff everyone puts under their trees to the stores. I LOVE blue collar workers. They work long hours. Give these guys what they want. Sounds like the pay across the board is really unbalanced and they want to ensure AI isn’t going to decimate their jobs. Obviously the government has done nothing for decades to mitigate the problem of a grossly disproportionate and widening income gap and the stagnation of income in relation to the Cost of Living’s geometric growth.
Nothing has been done to restrain massive corporate monopolies with shadow ownerships that overlap the entirety of the supply chain, hiding in shell companies and compounded by stock buybacks to further concentrate wealth and power at the top 1%.
The Right of workers to organize and collectively bargain has been systematically stifled, repressed, and vilified over the last few decades but is the ONLY solution left to force the corporate oligarchy to give up the slave-wage model and give the people who MAKE the products and BUY the products some compensation for their contribution other than crippling dept and generational poverty.
