You hit every nail and point once again sis! This will not change unless our non-POC collectors respect our perspectives on this/these issues. We will continue letting our voices be heard Periodt!
I know I’m late to the table, but I’m an LOL Surprise designer. The LOL design team consists of two Black designers, two Latino designers and an Eastern European man. Having been a doll designer since 1995 , you are very correct about the industry being fraught with racism, but the Black designers in the industry fight against it by being at the table when decisions are made and combatting any biases that we encounter. At the end of the day, we need to start our own companies rather than attempting to sway the course of an organization that we don’t own. Working on it- and fabulous content btw! P.S.-I have a Bratz doll coming out in the Spring that I hope you’ll love!
You know the crazy thing is Isaac Larian is pretty much a person of color and I'm shocked it would even be a subject! I mean yes it was whatade his company so successful to begin with is that he DID start out being equal across the line but then we saw less and less of the brown dolls. And NO brown males. Well I do think it would he awesome if some did come up with lines that were successful as bratz and barbies where there whole lines that were latino asian and African, like serious make lines where there more than JUST the one token asian or token black. Like make a princess line that has both Sasha AND felicia in it. A wildlife safari that had both felicia and Sasha. As well as create and few black bratz boys.
Wow Brandy I am absolutely blown away! This video was so well done, well written and you are a great speaker. I remember years ago feeling like I was one of the few black Bratz collectors on social media, and feeling so alone sometimes with what was happening in the community. I’m so glad to see the Bratz community flourish. And I am so glad to see so many of my brothers and sisters starting a collection as well. I love the shout out and I love seeing my other friends in the community getting their shout out in the video too. I absolutely love how there’s no beef between any of us, and we all get along. Your video was fabulously made. I saved it to three different playlists and I have to make a TikTok about this. Thank you so much again girl
As a bratz fan I always hated that sasha was less in the commercials and her cartoon art was lighter than the doll. MGA is always having issues or problems with the black dolls
Bratz takes heavily on the black and brown culture, especially the albums. If you listen to Bratz albums like forever diamonds or fashion pixies you’ll hear hip hop rap, reggae and Latin music. It’s a shame that people don’t realize it. Also I saw someone on the Bratz community group denounce Sasha’s race and say that she’s not black but tanned :/
holiday felicia not being as readily available & accessible as sweetheart meygan ,who will be mass produced for a more affordable price & is currently still in stock while both being holiday dolls
i’m so glad somebody finally spoke up about the racism in the doll community! everyone white person in the doll community is just ignoring us POC people whenever we try to speak up about this. thank you for speaking up about this once again 💗🤍
I love this series! Never let that amazing voice be silenced! You are educating and informing people on stuff they need to know! And thank you for the mention love you Brandi 💖
I just started collecting Bratz again , I was so excited to try and get the collection I had when I was younger and excited to get all the Sasha’s I didn’t have 😍 then I saw most Sasha’s going for $300-800 and I’m like 😖 as much as I want her I refuse to give my money to these scalpers . Love your video so happy you made this 🤎
Thank you so much for taking the time and energy to educate. I’ve just found your channel and I love this series. The only thing I’d like to add (just to support your argument on pricing from part 1, I completely agree) is that yeah the prices may have all gone up due to the pandemic BUT how much of an increase have collectors seen in on BIPOC Bratz dolls? Yeah certain Cloe releases may cost more now but like, how much of an increase have they seen with Felicia? I genuinely can’t say because I didn’t know there was such a large and fantastic Bratz community until the Anniversary releases popped up. I’ve collected other dolls for years and I’m getting back into Bratz. I missed collecting them back in the day. I was in the middle of my “I’m too old for dolls” phase. It was brief, lol.
My opinion of privilege is something you don't have to think about, us as black people we notice things that others do not (for obvious reasons), because they don't have to deal with it, and that's a privilege. And just because you may not see what we're talking about, doesn't make it any more or less real. You just don't experience it, because you have the privilege not to.
As someone said in the comment, I really did hate that MGA would always leave Sasha out of commercials and lines. And even her artwork was lighter than the doll. They also did a big mistake by hiding Felicia in the commercials. But I hate that Sasha are so high and can’t ever afford her at all. As I said all before, this scalping thing reminds me so much of slavery. And you didn’t speak one like in this video.
Fr! The commercials that include Sasha is very limited. Not to mention they always play Sasha commercials in low black populations and not high counties with the black people.
Oh mai GaW I commented before watching the whole video through and u hit the point exactly I was talking about!! Pretty N Punk was the one I was talking about as WELL as the princess line and I, literally was SO disappointed when I was looking for her at toys r us, walmart and target when they were released only to find out she didn't even exist. #wheremydollsatmga! All these recreations they making how about making those u never came out with at the time! Princess Sasha or Pretty n Punk Sasha, midnight dance felicia, ect! oh and let's not EVEN talk about the twenty-ten lines!
Yessss sis, tell the world! I definitely learned a bit myself here and you are right, a closed mouth won't get fed, like, it's literally how we change the world!
I'll tell u this, what ever it is and I think it's a little bit of everything, I'm brown skin and had NOTHING in common with blond hair, blue eyes, and pale skin. I'll be honest at one point I almost began to abhor it. When I went to look for the dolls of color it was difficult because they were difficult to nearly impossible to find and were SO expensive. So I DO think it does have soooooome things to do with rarity, SOME. (Part of me was like but really why?? There were certain lines that didn't include sasha, Felicia etc and that bothered me because my darker skin gals AND guys were the ones I went looking for) But Nooooow after ALL of these years all of a sudden we're in and yes in that aspect I'm like damn why did it take all of this for our voices to be heard and included (and that's where the subject of the yes for me in the racist aspect comes in) It's SUCH a double edged sword. At the end of the day I'm super glad that FINALLY our brown and black dolls are being produced what ever the reason may be, They've always been my favorite. let the ugliness of our unmelanated distant relatives lay with them. I LOVE my brown skin I LOVE to see my brothers and sisters of color are finally getting the recognition they need and deserve!! ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥 and yes gurl keep bringing that awareness!! You have a voice.
I think the fact that certain vintage black Barbies can go for thousands, using that argument that less were produced, it might have made its way into other dolls people are selling
Haven’t finished the video but I already know 100% of what you’re going to say because I notice it so often now with collectors. Specifically white collectors who are more new to Bratz. It was all about diversity with Bratz. Yasmin with the chicana/chola influence especially with the makeup. Sasha with being African American, having textured hair styles, and especially with the hip hop rnb influence she showed. The low rider car the Bratz had and if only people knew the history it stemmed from. To even jade having harajuku fashion that meets American street wear. All this cultural diversity they had, just for people to demean others and scream, “they’re racially ambiguous” and completely disregarding those who didn’t have that representation from those urban ethnic communities. And that’s what pisses me off.
Its so annoying you find cloe, yasmine, jade and others are easy to find but Sasha, felica and others are really expensive, people need to stop making prices higher because of there skin tone or culture.
Your takes aren’t even extreme you’re literally pointing out the (fairly obvious) racial bias ppl have with dolls and laying it out in a more than fair way
I want to personally ask you something for educational purposes. No harm no nothing negative. Here in Puerto Rico new generations are standing up to remove racist, and rapist colonizers statues/ sculptures. So my question by mentioning so much the black culture wouldn't that make the gap between all races bigger by continuing to mention that there's a gap. I do not mean to erase History but to normalize those stories and making unity something inherently normal. Thank you for your time.
You hit every nail and point once again sis! This will not change unless our non-POC collectors respect our perspectives on this/these issues. We will continue letting our voices be heard Periodt!

Incredibly written as always, Brandi! Completely agree with every point 👏 Here’s to no more scalpers in 2022! 😫
Yes!!! They are a poison and vexation!!
As a bratz fan I always hated that sasha was less in the commercials and her cartoon art was lighter than the doll. MGA is always having issues or problems with the black dolls
Literally when I was little I would always think it was Yasmin.

I hate how Sasha and Felicia are so expensive I’ve been looking for Felicia for years and was finally able to get one with the holiday Felicia
I love this series! Never let that amazing voice be silenced! You are educating and informing people on stuff they need to know! And thank you for the mention love you Brandi 💖
Popular opinion: scalping should be punishable by law. The end.

I am so sick and tired of (mostly) white collectors excusing the scalpers
Thank you so much for taking the time and energy to educate.
