"I'm not interested in mathematical economics as mathematics. I'm interested in it to only throw light on economic history. I do a lot of writing each month for newspapers all over the world and I think that a person who could write the best current accounts of current economic history would be doing the most important task of the good economist. Mathematics is just the catalyst that enables you to handle multivariate things."

I think about this a lot. I think there’s potential that his mother was suffering either some PND or it’s possible that she was suffering multiple pregnancy losses and was confined to bed rest. He mentioned that “years later when he got a younger brother..” seems unusual that there would be a big gap between middle and last child unless …even only having three kids as a wealthy enough family seeks unusual … hence I think she was suffering pregnancy related illnesses maybe hypermesis and miscarriages

To me “three triplets” sounds redundant. Is there such a thing as two triplets? When someone says they have triplets, I understand they have exactly that: 3 babies that happen to be triplets. And someone saying they have triplets should be enough to understand that. Now if they say they have 3 triplets, I’m thinking they have 9 kids: 3 sets of triplets. Same for twins. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say they have “two twins”. They have twins.

I'm guessing that being a January baby was a definite advantage in being deemed a smart kid. I don't doubt he was smart, but being older than everyone else in the class may have helped. Although, this may not apply if the year one started school was based on the school year and not the actual year one was born in.

@@Snappypantsdance You’re definitely being dumb. We ended up where we are in the West because of the Neo-Liberal policies that began with fascists in Europe and then made their way to the modern world through the policies of Reagan and Thatcher. The modern “conservative” parties have been following the same trickle down theory nonsense ever since, taking money from regular people, redistributing it to the uber wealthy and corporations, and defunding social programs all while increasing government spending. And all of it is at the behest of their corporate masters to make short term profits at the expense of workers and the country as a whole. Meanwhile, they blame all problems on “the poor” and “American laziness” despite the fact that Americans work more than any other developed country.
The saddest part is that they have about half of the country (including you) fooled into believing their nonsense so that they can continue their quest to make this the most unequal country in the world. The truth is that if people would turn their political anger on corporate America and demand major limitations on their involvement in politics and government, this would be a much happier and healthier country and world.
