    Pretty good work to obtain a working model for studying forming process, tubes, joints, sound, mouth pieces etc.
    And an excelent result. I very much like your carnyx.
    But it's not the way "they" did it 2000 years ago. Would be interesting to evaluate the ancient possibilties and working process. 😀

      Thank you. It was not the point anyway to do it the way they did. This would. Take years to make just one.

      @@Gofannon Yeah, I'm sure. Anyway, it would be very interesting to know how "they" worked. It's astonishing how precisely some ancient pieces have been built.

    Great build man, impeccable patience shown on your part in the shaping of pieces. It also shows vision beyond sight, u had to craft the Carnyx in your mind before you put mallet to metal. I came across the Carnyx literally 3 or 4 days ago and now im obsessed lmao. Seriously playing guitar i've always shaped my phrasing to that of a horn, a broad sweeping beam of sound. Like the light beam coming off of a lighthouse but its the sound. So to hear of an ancient instrument that has a broader range than any modern instrument im forever intrigued and encapsulated. Do you know of any skematics that show the inner chambers of the short, fat headed design of the Carnyx? John Kenny did a concert/lecture about the Carnyx and im assuming theyre two different clans with two different designs? idk just wondering.

    • @Gofannon
      @Gofannon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey, thanks for your comment. Yes they are very unusual instruments. You can't play melodies with it, they are beasts with mighty voices as John Kenny says. I don't have any blue plan for it, I only worked with the official archaeological publish of the discovery of Tintignac, and that leads to your second question. There is actually 2 main design because ther is 2 famous archaeological found. So people who want to make something accurate will head to one or an other. But there is more, actually. You have the 6 carnices of Tintignac with the one almoste complet found in 2004. You have the carnyx of Deksford found in Scotland at the end of the 19th century, but here only the head was found, the rest is an invitation John Creed and his team. You have a carnyx found in northern France close to Belgium I think so. Only the left side of the head was found but there is some reproductions of it. And you have the carnyx of Sanzeno in Italian Alpes, only hears, pieces of the tube and the mouthpiece were found.

    That’s amazing I’m thinking about building one just because it’s literally a epic war horn capable of scaring foes (mostly neighbours) but I have a few questions what does heating the brass do does it make it easier to shape while hot or do you wait until cold or just for looks and also what’s the weird black slime stuff in the box you hammer on never seen something like it before thanks.

    • @Gofannon
      @Gofannon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I heat the brass to anneal it. If you hit the brass (or bronze or copper) it will break at some point. But if you warm it up at the low red color, it's getting softer and it's soft as long as you don't hammer it, even when it's cold. And the black thing is called pitch for repoussé work.

    • @kimholcomb6943
      @kimholcomb6943 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Johnny, after he heats it, it helps to harden the brass as he goes along and works it. The more he hammers it the harder and tougher it will become over time. Jewelers know how to do this.
