I'm pretty sure the tailor knot u use to tie your thread is THE legitest (not a word, I know) way to tie off. Lol thank you for your inspiration! Have you ever fully elaborated on staystitching & directional sewing?? It helped me a lot to know those two in conjunction. No more mismatched seams when I know I cut it legitly! (again, not a word!) ✂️😜✌️

As far as I know (and it has made my hand sewing soooo much easier ever since I started doing this) you have to wear your thimble on your ring finger (or middle finger?) bc it makes it easier to push the needle through than with your second finger! Check out Bernadette Banners video on thimble use, it helped me a lot :)
Also, the "tracing the pattern out without seem allowance" is my preferred method of working bc it#s so much more precise than always having half a cm/inch of seam allowance, no one is that precise...
Yes you are traditionally supposed to wear the thimble on your middle finger like I wrote in the vid! I wear mine mostly on the forefinger bc when I am using the thimble for things like pinning on a dress form I find myself going to use my forefinger more often so I just generally wear it on that finger which is ok

idk if you've ever mentionned this but another really good tip. when you press interfacing, or fabric in general. let it cool down before touching it or moving it. especially for the interfacing. Otherwise it will create weir creases and dents. if you move it while it's still hot youl permanetly defor the fiber

Thank you so much, you definitely improved my sewing skills significantly. the tracing when adding your own seam allowance? mind = blown. just one question; what fabric do you use when prototyping. Cause where I am, The cheapest fabric I can get my hands on rn I could get a fashion fabric for like a nice cotton. only eg. mesh is cheaper. What would you recommend?
I always go to the thrift store for cheap test fabric. If I'm planning on sewing with corduroy, I'll buy a cheaper corduroy in whatever color to make a test with. Just make sure the test fabric and actual fabric are somewhat similar in weight.
Usually people use a fabric called muslin for testing. I've never used it before but that's what people supposedly do.
Before I got access to American materials I never even knew there were patterns with seam allowances, because here (in Germany), they usually don't have them. I think seam allowance also depends a bit on the type of fabric so I prefer not to have them on the pattern.

i would love if u could do a video on adjusting patterns 🙏 i’m too scared to make pants because i am more on the slim thicc side and standard sizes do not fit AT ALL and i have no idea where to start with adjusting. maybe a video on tailor basics as well? would love to know how to adjust the clothes i buy. ❤️❤️
PS i am so glad i found your channel! I love sewing but I want to learn some of the more technical sewing stuff. it’s difficult to find someone that is able to get to the point with the technical stuff while keeping it interesting with trendy projects. I’ve seen you reply to some other comments about video suggestions that you may not do it because there are other tutorials out there, but i recommend you make your own tutorial if there is enough demand! your approach is different than many other tutorials so I would love to see and hear your tutorials! xoxo

Also, I have a sewing question that maybe you or someone here can answer for me?! I recently bought a heap of stretch suede in 2 different colours. I whipped up a gorgeous turtleneck dress in one colour, but when I went to sew the same dress in the other colour, the fabric WOULD NOT SEW TOGETHER properly. For instance, when sewing the shoulder seams together, I would end up with one fabric piece waaaay longer than the other after sewing it together some, and not because I'd cut it badly. This continued to happen on every seam and I eventually gave up. Is it possible that the grain line was warped before I cut out the pieces? I'm completely self taught, but sew a good chunk of my wardrobe, and even teach sewing to underpriviledged adults, so I know my way around fabric and a machine, but I was really stumped as this has never happened to me before. I'd love some insight from the pros! ;-D

lol for me the great discovery was that you can wind the bobbins with the machine rather than winding them by hand XD
I learned the hard way to make prototype after ruining my fashion fabric a few years ago. I was so disappointed that I left it like that never went back to it till this day.

Probably a location based thing! Prototypes, muslins, toiles, mock-ups, all the same, but called different names based on your country or location

if you make a prototype that doesn't fit, then alter the prototype, how do you translate the alterations to the pattern so you can make your final piece with fashion fabric fit?
After altering the prototype, you take it apart then you can report the alterations on each prototype pieces to the corresponding pattern type.
