Interesting argument! Similarly, getting a Rolex to tell time is an overkill and driving a Porsche to the grocery store is a real overkill … but still enjoyable. The X2D is appealing to me for so much more than the 100 mp sensor. I plan to get one for the IBIS, the camera feel and handling, the menu system, the color rendition and the Nikon flash compatibility. Oh yes, also for the shear enjoyment of using it.
I hear you Salvatore, whatever floats your boat :). It's a beautiful camera and I'm sure you'll love. I wish they had an option to downscale or cheaper option with an updated 60mp as those 100mp files will clog up your system. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
@@AskMOTT Absolutely agree - if Hasselblad had a 50/60 MP system with the specs of the X2D - it would appeal to many more people. Like with Fuji you can have either the GFX 100s or 50sii. Many thanks for the video
Hello Justin, You are really hitting on the X1D, Yes it did have bugs in it but after two firmware update they were mostly gone. Yes the auto focusing is slow one version one but it was never marketed as a speed machine. I have had my X1D since 2017 Just stunning results. That said I have other systems for different job. I love the image, colours, handling and file quality out my X1D version 1. Just waiting to get my X2D.
There are some cameras that almost never make financial sens… so you just buy them because you love them and can afford them. If I could, I would buy it, although it would be a financial non sens for me 😂😂😂I just love it!
I'm an amateur. Do I need 100mpx? Who cares! I love the look, the aesthetics, the 1Tb drive, and the colours that this thing renders, the menu system, the ergonomics, the images !!! Of course I expect many of us don't need it, and me, definitely I don't, but I'll get it because I LOVE it !
Thanks - X2D-100C yes but only if Hasselblad give it the same capabilities as the X1Dii and and enable LV and Autosequence when tethered to Phocus I look forward to seeing your images.
Currently using both Fuji and hasselblad systems and a ton of film. I have the original fuji gfx100 and the 907x. I’ve used both professionally. Also A big part of my work is huge prints. There is just something special about hasselblad as well as Leica cameras. I find that using the 907x sets a certain tone a certain vibe. The pictures end up looser because of it. Same with the Leica. It’s a social thing. Aesthetics matter. Slowing down is a good thing. How u look how you speak it all matters. Also what you said about video is a serious problem. Sometimes I’m packing a red camera, the gfx and the hasselblad. And often film cameras also. It’s a lot to deal with on location and can really complicate things. I need a more stream lined kit for sure 😢
Your HB content is how I ended up finding this channel and subscribing. I'm an amateur that occasionally donates photography to charity events. Main subjects of interest are family, landscapes, and street. My family hike carry is an X1D2 with a 21/4 (17/3.2), a Ricoh GR3 (28/2.8), and a Leica M10 with whatever my favorite 50 is - usually the Voigtlander 50/2 APO or the MS-Optics 50/1 ISM. Three fun cameras, good focal coverage, no lens changes. I haven't been in a rush to upgrade to the M11 but probably will eventually. Also curious about the M10 Monochrom. As for the X2D I love the developments. I think resolution is future-underrated as most viewing happens on screens and screens themselves are only getting higher and higher-res. I prefer the design, ergonomics, color, and soul of HB but the Fuji 20-35 zoom really has me wondering about the GFX system. If the optics hold a 16-28 equiv is awesome for landscapes, HB doesn't seem to have an answer even roadmapped, and I'm not liking the busy design of the new XCD-V lenses.
Thanks for taking the time to commetn and you do make a good point about future proofing but I still feel like it's overkill, but that's just me. That's a lot of gear to take on a hike, you're stronger than I am :).
Bought a X2D and 38 XCD.... what a camera and what an output. I've always been a slow photographer and amateur. But darn, I'm pretty good in post and these files are something to work with.
could you please tell me more about the 38mm... I had my test kit last week and the 38mm was a joke wide open up to f5.6 or do you maybe have some jpgs to send me... I am little bit scared of buying into this system when the results are not consistent
The Hasselblad voice commentator reminds me of the 1980s weekend midnight b movie horror nights commentator you would watch on tv. It's definitely a pretty camera, I looked up the price and it's expensive but for some reason I was expecting much more than $8200.
I have never been a pixel chaser for the sake of more resolution. I need to invest in a new camera system. Funny thing is that you mentioned the Leica M11 which is the same price if not more than the X2D. Hmmmm.. I shoot each day with the Leica Q2M and that grounds me in the basics. So, the $$$ question is my choice to either step up to the Leica M11 or switch to the X2D - The X2D is winning the battle right now. The color science is the big discriminator for me. No getting around that. This was a totally honest opinion and review you gave. My client will go along with my decision as to which ecosystem I choose.
It won’t probably be long until they release the x2d with 50Mpx. What I‘m really interested is the Color andTonality of the images. Hasselblad always markets it’s cameras as the pinnacle for natural looking images. Not overly sharpened, accurate colors and beautiful contrasts. Can the Sony‘s compete with that? Or is this Hasselblad’s Marketing? Your clients probably would buy your images regardless which camera you use, but still interesting to know :-) All the best C
Thanks Richard, I find it funny how many people get angry about this stuff. I'm not knocking Hasselblad, they make awesome cameras and I used one of those cameras for 6 years, just don't think most people need this new version and I have my fair complaints about the past version, oh well.
I think this is an excellent luxury, supplementary camera. It'll cost £11k to buy with a lens, and more like £20k for a 3 lens setup. That's a lot of coin. For half the money, you can build a full system with another brand where, arguably, you could produce results you wouldn't be able to with the 'blad. All that to say, it's more optimised for wealthy hobbyists rather than professionals.
Good review. No you don’t talk too fast, most TH-cam presenters talk too slow. I’m a amateur photographer who does some commercial work. My personal work is primarily travel/landscape photography. Living in the Napa Valley, my commercial work is winery location and wine related product shooting. I’m primarily a Leica shooter (M10R and M10M). I’ve been using an X1D II for landscape and studio work. Commercial and website sales support my purchases. I love the 3:dimensional images I get from the Hasselblad and it is a dream to use in the studio. I’ve also taken it on vacation and found it to be a great landscape camera. I’m a long time Leica user and it just fits my style and gets me the images I see through the viewfinder. No video work. I completely understand your switch to Sony and think that anyone doing both still and video work could not make a better decision. I do have an X2D on order. Thanks again, best wishes
Great video. I agree 100mp is totally overkill,….but that is not the point. I had the privilege to try it out at my local photo store, and yes the amount of details - cropability this sensor has is incredible,….but really what struck me the most was the Color balance and this difficult to describe color depth-texture richness was I could not find in any other system I compared it with (maybe the 16bit color depth), i.e. the Nikon Z8 and Leica SL2 (SL3 had not been delivered yet). Am no pixel peeper, but this really stands out.
Have you tried the gfx100ii? Im torn. I have a s5ii with all the s pro lens and have been saving up to transition to sl2 or 2s with th sl50 lux and 24-90, but now im eyeing either to keep my s5ii and use the x2d combo or sell everything and go all in on the gfx. My question is, would you rather have a sl system or have a s5ii with a x2d combo or all in gfx system. I do travel and natural light portraits, some talking head videos and looking into cinematic portraits.
@@AskMOTT Hahaha!! Seriously, I gained a lot of value from what you had to say Justin - I'm weighing whether to trade my X1D II - I document artwork (paintings) and shoot architecture/nature as a hobby - the sensor, IBIS and the ISO are compelling - I need to digest the numbers, if I can!!
To have the best of the best and give the best of the best, the price is not bad for what you getting in if you want it . Hasse is the best if you get to master the camera, today in 2022 I still using my 501
I agree, as an amateur enthusiast, 100 MP is overkill. I would never shoot for a billboard, but say HB went contrary to the megapixel wars and this new X2D came out with a 25 MP sensor? Would you change your recommendation? No longer overkill, yet the esthetics, ergonomics, easy menus, large EVF, SSD storage, IBIS, etc would be the same. Also, HB is beholden to sensor makers and the only way they can advance is more megapixels. In theory, a MF 25 megapixel sensor would have huge pixels and even better dynamic range.
All that ranting and not a single image taken with the X2D. That is what it is all about. The image quality and color accuracy from the Hasselblad X2D are simply outstanding and have to been seen on a large monitor or a large print to be appreciated. It has everything I need and nothing I don't need.
. Good point Sivelstro, I understand medium format lenses are harder and more expensive to make but they are just so pricey. Maybe if it becomes popular enough Sigma will make some lenses for it :).
True, the ,8 adapter coupled with HC lenses can soften the blow if you want to save loads of cash filling any gaps from the native xcd line up. I think the cost will depend on which lenses are necessary for your kit.
I had the same situation and feeling, worked a long time with the x1d, but after 5 years the body started to fail more an more, so I switched to fuji medium format because you couldn't rely on the system and it got me nervous, and discovered that this system is more in line with my photography work. And the lens quality is more my style, So I will not be switching back again.
Ha ha perhaps saving you some cash. It’s a solid camera indeed but I’m still worried about autofocus issues as most people who reviewed seek to brush past it or not address as they are just happy to have the camera in their hands . It feels like they are hiding the fact that it’s still not great at auto focusing.
I have a GFX 100S, and I love the images I can create, but the UI is always infuriating, even after customizing to my shooting style. The menus upon menus is tiring to remember if I don't use it for a bit. Remembering where I put my shortcuts isn't always second nature. Worst issue is the quick menu access. I have larger hands, and I can tell the notch for the quick access was designed to wedge hands on the grip to aid handling, but the notch digs into my palm, which after a full day of street or event, can be a little raw. I really want to try out the Hasselblad for the color science. I know I can edit to whatever in Lightroom, but I prefer getting the shot mostly done on site, spending less time editing. I'll likely rent an X2D and see what I get after a few days and if it works for me. I will admit, the internal storage and cfexpress really caught my attention. I don't run and gun, but 100MP is 100MP, that takes time to save on SD.
As I left photography after 25 years I sold a lot of my stuffs (still selling Leicas) but kept two sets: Sinar analogue and the Hassy digital. As I am an amateur now can afford this X2D so ordered. I still have some projects but not depending on clients... Sad how the photography has changed... in may aspects. 25 years ago it was not a question that I need tools and could afford it. Interesting how these "gear" companies are focusing to the amateurs instead of pros.
I'm going to ignore your opinion and buy this camera. I produce 400MP+ fine art images and IQ is king for me. Great content, enjoyed your video. And wonderful images. Keep it up.
How dare you ha ha , good for you. It wasn't for me at the moment but who knows if things will change and Hasselblad makes incredible cameras. i wash they had nailed the focusing.
Slow down man , very challenging to follow your video as a not native speaker. To use 0.75 speed is not really an option due to quality reasons. I like your content but I recommend to work on that if you want to improve.
We don't even need that camera for billboards. I can see it used for jewelry, but landscapes, maybe, but it would be overkill for me since I use motion a lot and bigger is not always better. Not talking quality, but need. I use the Nikon D850 and my files are very large already since I keep them at a higher bit rate outside of Lightroom.
Interesting Video, for me its the size and weight is an issue, (I get the quality is beyond, excellent), and the price its a lot cash unless you need it :). For the same amount you could spend a month in Paris and a month in Japan, I also hope you also make the X Pro, vs Leica, and who like is for :), I supposes a x pro and 3 lens, would be a fraction of the cost, and would let you know if rangefinder is correct for you. I see the attraction of the Leica due to small size and having bodies with different MP, 24, 40, 60 (full frame), depending on your needs.
I am the guy who has no reason to buy this, no rational reason. I started with a little black plastic box Brownie when I was around 8. I started darkroom developing, printing and enlarging when I was 10 and have dicked around with it since. I got my 35mm Vito II when I was around 13, and so on. I am quite geriatric now and have the disposable income and while I love my M8.2 and M9 I want top of the line. It was M11 or this and this is streets ahead of the M11 for me. Color and detail straightaway better. Auto everything plus IBIS and 16 bit color. The list of good stuff is quite a bit longer than the M11. This looks like one great camera and I hope you get one soon so we can get your use opinions about it. Wouldn't it be great to go to Custy's for some serious seafood eating? OTOH, Vietnamese cooking is probably the best in the world.
I dont have a “hassy” and have no intention on getting one. I enjoy what I shoot (Nikon) and what I have recently invested in (L). I watched the entire video nonetheless because I enjoy your commentary and the way you communicate with the me, the viewer. Keep up the great work! BTW, have you considered leading a workshop. Would love to see Viet Nam and doing a workshop would be a good excuse to go. Also, if you do, please coordinate it around my birthday so I can talk my better half into letting me go. 🤣😂🤣😂
I appreciate this video, as you have a lot of experience with the 1st generation of the Hassy. It looks like a great camera, no question. I agree with you re: who should buy this camera. For my work, I don’t need 100 megapixels. Down the road, if I started doing work that required humongous files, then I would consider it. However, for me, it would be overkill. And, I think for most photographers it would be as well.
People really only talk about the limits now about the first hassy. I kinda hate that. I rented the first hassy when it first came out and it was a nightmare. It looks much better now but the mirrorless is catching up and it isn't much difference. I'm on a wait and see right now. Nice to hear about your journey.
I can only imagine product and museum photographers using this, I think anything past 35-40mp is overkill to me. Sweet spot is somewhere between 16-24 for most ppl. I like 10mp 😅 enough to get the job done and a little extra wiggle room for alignment.
Back in the analog film era when i did photography at artschool i made the big mistake of buying a lot of new bronica instead of a Hasselblad. Only 5 years ago i sold everything Bronica and changed to Hasselblad... And emediately my images were like i wanted them. It's the lenses, the glass and the way it renders the image that make all the difference. Now at 58 i want to buy a great digital camera. And i will not make the same mistake by buying another cheaper brand because i get more bang for my euro's. Is it overkill for me to buy a 100 Mp hasselblad? Yes it probably is. And i don't care. Will i make billboards? No i will not. I am not a professional photographer so the commercial aspect does not count for me. I shoot big wetplates on 24x30 cm glassplates with Heliar and Tessar lenses that are a 100 years old and print negatives in my darkroom that i make with my analog Hasselblad. And if i buy a digital system i want not only details and resolution but especially i want great lenses that give me what i want. This will probably be the last and only digital system i will buy so it better be the best. And as you can understand speed of autofocus is not an aspect i care about since the more than 100 year old wooden camera's i use have non of that. I just want the best chip, the best color reproduction the best glass... The rest i see it just like a box with a means of registration of the image and a lens with a shutter and diaframe.....
Don’t forget that Apple had their “Shot on iPhone” billboard campaign and that was printed with 12mp iPhone. So this whole if you’re shooting for billboards than you need higher resolution speak is sort of moot. I would definitely make that argument if you need the resolution for gallery prints or high quality reproductions, but I don’t do that kind of work so I couldn’t comment on that entirely.
Thanks for the great video, although speaking for myself I have to disagree. I used to have the X1D, the GFX100S, the SL2, SL2-S, and others, and currently shoot with the M11. All great systems in their own way, and I’m loving the M11, but when I look at my files in Lightroom, and consider the enjoyment and simplicity of using the camera, and now features like IBIS and the flip screen, the Hasselblad X system stands out. The SL2 you mention as an alternative is nice, but the files don’t look great at high ISO (which is why I got the SL2-S, but the resolution isn’t quite there when I need to crop and then print a large print for a client). I’ll probably keep my M11 - the smaller size is really nice sometimes, and an M is always fun to use. My main question for myself is whether it will be worth keeping my Phase One IQ3100 tech cam set up for its tilt-shift capabilities for landscape and architecture (Hasselblad really need to release a TS XCD lens - what did you do when you shot architecture on the X1D?) Thanks again - enjoyed the video.
Fair enough Peter, thanks for sharing your experience. I would love to have a TS for architecture but since I'm doing mostly interiors and resort work I've been fine using the 30mm and limiting distortion.
I’ve used the Leica 28mmPC R with my M10M and a Canon 24mmPC with my SL2. I’ve been asking Hasselblad for years regarding a TS solution. They just suggest an H adapter, the H TS adapter and an H lens. Not for ME! BTW I’ve heard rumors regarding a Fuji TS X lens. Regards…
Yes I think i would. I have the excess and easily burn some of my income on the entire h as well as x systems…😛 no never… 25mp is more than enough for me. But who knows? I might buy one and you speak slowly…
Hello Justin - Have been following your channel for a while and am close to joining your community! Chanced on this video as I was itching for a new camera. Was debating between waiting for the anticipated Leica SL3 (which supposedly will release towards end of this year or early 2024) and the X2D. Your comments on who the X2D is for is helpful but what has drawn me to the X2D is the fact that it is a medium format camera whereas the Leica SL is a mirrorless full frame. I currently have the Nikon D850 as my workhorse and I have too many lenses that it would be too painful for my wallet to move to a new mirror less system unless it is for something that my D850 doesn't currently offer. That's where the X2D has a lot of appeal. What would you say to someone in my situation. I also investigated the GFX 100 but the ergonomics (and some of the complexity of use) has put me off.... Would be interested in your thoughts Thanks v much in advance!
It’s really hard to say Melvin without knowing you or your work closer. I’m not trying to sell you on one of my 1 hour consultations but this is something I do help people with . They are on my website listed under 1 hour portfolio reviews/consultations but many people hire me to talk gear only. What I would say off hand is that the lens investment in the Hasselblad is significant and for someone like me who shoots on location quite a bit it’s important to have back ups even if they are cheaper options and have two of all the XCD lenses was just too much. I absolutely loved the menu system w X1D and I still hate the Sony navigation but for versatility the Sony A7R4 has been by workhorse for commercial work . Lots to consider on such a big investment, sorry o couldn’t be more helpful.
X2D looks amazing I think. I stayed away from the first gen as it was seemed unfinished. Will buy the X2D. In love with Hasselblad colours. I wonder how you’re getting along with the Sony colour? I use them at work, but am so tired of the poor colour out of cameras. Fixing it in post takes time and isn’t always easy when you don’t know what to edit for. Never cared for the Fujifilm. Lesser image quality and surprisingly poor ergonomics and build quality.
I think it's worth it to those who can afford it. It's on the level of the H6D. But the pixel pitch on the cameras is getting so much closer to smartphone territory. Granted the surface area and lens make up for any detail losses. Amplifier and SNR technology is a lot better these day too. 3.76um that's tiny pixels. That's smaller than the Z9
Hey Justin, great video and I love your realistic opinions at the end of your video. For me, I use the GFX100s for commercial product work, no problems at all. Except other photographers around the world are using Hassie, so sometimes I have to match their colours for a consistent global look of the product, takes time in C1 to do. The X2D am sure will product great images, but my only concern is the ease of selection of the focus points without a joystick. Often I have to select precise points for shooting, so touch is not refined enough, thus only left using the front and back dials, would have been nice for a joystick or the buttons to the right of the LCD can be programmed for up and down movement. I guess alternative move focus point within Phocus. It's an aesthetic thing for Hassie. The 907x has an external joystick. For interiors, I use the Sony A1 and A7r3 as backup, and with 5-7 lenses it won't break the bank and is relatively small system and lightweight to travel with. Also works well with C1, which currently Hassie files not supported. I think those who can afford and value the name + colour science + need large files, this X2D is for you. But as you have pointed out, being realistic there are plenty of other good camera alternatives.
Was just thinking, like you it is extremely expensive to have another X1D or X2D as a backup on pro jobs. Hassy also I don't believe have pro support, e.g. Nikon/Canon and Fujifilm I can borrow another camera / lens if my equipment is under repair, also they have fairly fast repair service. I would expect Hassy to be relatively slow given lack of manpower. Not unheard of 3-4 months waiting time for repairs!
..it's funny the fact that this is a Sony sensor..makes you think...Fuji has been in their own lane when it comes to "medium format" and "aps-c" for a long time..but in the sense if Sony wanted to go "after them" in the medium format game..they absolutely can and this "sensor" shows that they have the tech if they wanted to..but maybe the body design is still getting worked on if or when they will ever make a Sony Medium Format Camera..in my opinion maybe they should..because lets say some Sony photographers want to move up to "Medium Format" and if there no choice inside the Sony line..people will jump to Fuji for that need...business wise your going to lose some people in that sense, why not keep them in the Sony "camp" and have that "Medium Format" line...Fuji is probably not worried for now..but they know Sony maybe developing something in the future..I hope they do..
How Could anyone speak in the same breath about Hassy and Leica as Fuji and sony. Hassy and Leica is top of the line Full Stop. Also how could anyone say that 100MP is overkill, that is like saying why use a 4x5 or 8x10 Camera when you could use a 35mm Camera or a Medium Camera.4x5 and 8x10 is superior quality.
Interesting stuff but no, you haven't slowed down enough but you're not alone in that. I really don't get why so many TH-camrs feel the need to race through their videos, even to the point of apologising that they haven't had time to do a proper job cos they have some other burning appointments. Then do the video some other time. The internet won't care but it will if you do an unfinished piece. Not that this is the case here. I do like to hear about your experiences and value your opinion as you're a working pro but I could do with a little less pace. You're obviously a touch ADHD so it'll be difficult but try slowing down one day just to see what it feels like. You may find a whole new world of opportunity out there....lol...
The sad thing is Mike, this is me trying to slow down :). I actually have a video coming out today where I’m a lot more chill , curious to hear what you think of it. Thanks
Good video; however, you were wanting to get to the real point, but never truly got there. The price of this camera is a very good down payment for a car; in fact, the price of this camera and 3 lenses, could be a decent down payment for a house. 1st. The real cost of cameras is the lenses; it is this reason that canon for example is boxing out 3rd party lens makers. Hasselblad has some fatal flaws in this category; first its ridiculously expensive with many lens north of $4000; 2nd; they dont' have. lot of selection of lenses; not like the GFX system, its direct competitor. 2nd. It's limited; it is simply just a stills camera. You said it yourself; baring some heavy pixel peeping, you will be hard press to tell the difference compared to a Cannon R5, sony A1 or A7RIV, top of line Nikkon; and since it is using same sensor of GFX; they will produce near identical images; except for the difference in color science or lense; this can be tweaked in post. But then we have our other problem; the top-of-line full-frame cameras mentioned will also be really good video cameras as well and in 2022; you better have a multipurpose camera; or succumb to two systems and paying twice as much money. Medium format (especially the crop sensor medium formats) really aren't as much of a difference compared to good full frame; but even if you decided medium format was the route; you then ran into the problem of cost compared to the GFX. I'll describe below. 3rd: take this camera at 8200, and buy the 30mm, 55mm, 80 mm; thats over $20K; take Fuji GFX 100s, get the 30mm, 63mm, 80mm and its over 11K; then with that extra money, you can buy the 40-105 zoom, the 50mm, the 23 mm, and the 110 mm F2 and have 7 lenses and still have over $500 bucks to left over to use for other things. AND you can shoot 4K30 videos. 4th: not only is it just a stills camera; you are limited to just slow moving or not moving things; like a building or landscape. If something moves with any speed; the camera's slow autofocus system and slow sensor readout just can't compete. To make matters worse; the phase detect autofocus for the pre-production units didn't even work (something as key as finally having phase detect autofocus, and you give it to reviewers like that "the verge" reviewer, and it not working is not a good sign. So going back to point 2; with a top of line full frame, not only are you getting near same picture quality, you are also getting video capabilities, but in addition, these cameras are often not limited and that you can take picks of slow stuff; fast stuff, animals, people, races cars; race horses, whatever. It simply is much more versatile while also being cheaper and lighter in most instances; for these, you can probably get $20 lenses for that same $20K price for this camera and 3 lens that hit the key focal lengths that i mentioned. Overall, nice looking product, as like Leicas; you will have a niche, rich market for. the product. But price/performance aka Value proposition, is absolutely terrible
I’d pick the Hasselblad over the Fuji easy. The reason the Hasselblad are more expensive is that they are better. And that each lens features a mechanical leaf shutter mechanism. Which is another huge advantage. Video? Yeah. I take it the people that talk about video on medium format haven’t actually worked with video. The rolling shutter on these sensors that exist today have such horrific rolling shutter that they are unusable for video.
It seems, but is not comparabe GFX vs Hassy. The clients are different. Who shoots flash, is hard to get stuck to the 1/125 sync. In fact that´s the main reason why the lenses are more expensive, due the leaf shutter. Build quality is in a different league, much much higher on the Hassy. I had a GFX50r and 3 lenses, and sold everything for the Pentax, just because the build quality. I really can´t handle the "touch" of the GFX cameras, they all seems hollow. Even the latest gfx 100s, I tried, but almost the same feeling. My Olympus has a better, in fact much better, build quality. The buttons, the dials, on the Fuji, they are crap. Also colour is a big difference. Fuji are ok, but the Hasselblad, since they bought the Imacom, they are unbeatable, in fact comparing to any other brand. Just Leica is close, with their own touch. Value for money, in a business perspective, yes, Fuji is ahead. But who makes money out these systems, the cost difference is not a factor.
Crazy that you have so much experience with their system, yet Hasselblad didn't get an X2D into your hands Justin. I had pre-ordered TWO X2D bodies and all three new lenses from B&H, but have since cancelled the order since they've shown you such disrespect. BTW, I also SMASHED that like button, cuz I'm kind of an ass.
I knew that was you JK, I felt the smash :). In their defense I didn't ask them to test and it's very hard to get electronics in Vietnam so no hate for Hasselblad from me.
Ha, backup med format. Errrrr, doesn’t really happen that often by all that I’ve come by. Who all use phase… no, too much $ for seconds, that’s crackers even for older ones. But whatever.
Me too Duane, but living in Vietnam it's near impossible to get anything expensive here to review as customs is hassle to deal with, pun intended. Also, that's why I talked mainly about the system as a whole because I have a ton of experience with it.
2:04...I could almost see an an anvil fall when you zoomed in while whispering about the fib to your wife...i think Hasselblad's lens IP and colour science are way ahead of Sony...you might switch back yet
Ha ha, well I wouldn't call it a complete switch, still going strong with my Leica gear for editorial and personal work :). Sony just made too much sense for my business with video and stills and multiple shoots going on at once.
@@AskMOTT Hi, hehe.. just a bit funny 😁 but a bit serious about it also😊 I think you know what I mean. I’m going between MF an FF my self, but my choice of brand is Canon C70, R5C, and Fujifilm GFX100S and Phase One XF But the new Hasselblad is ordered 👍 Phase One is on its way to a new photographer..
Came here first time to listen to your opinion. Waking away with sour after taste. I think it is a a strangely arrogant comment, to decide whether any camera is for anyone. “Need” and “justify” are terms you can just leave at the door. Nobody needs 50mp either. 12mp is good for 99% of people. You come off just sounding salty.
Like you said, it’s my opinion, that’s what this channel is, my opinions. . I don’t think 99.9% would be happy w their purchase so just trying to them 8K, not sure how that is salty but to each his own.
I hope you do love it , Hasselblad makes beautiful cameras and you’re right about that color rendering, it’s gorgeous.
Wow. No experience with the camera but a critique nevertheless. Bold.
I’m a bold dude.
@@AskMOTT you are a joke
Thanks - X2D-100C yes but only if Hasselblad give it the same capabilities as the X1Dii and and enable LV and Autosequence when tethered to Phocus
I look forward to seeing your images.
I had my test kit last week and the 38mm was a joke wide open up to f5.6
or do you maybe have some jpgs to send me...
Always a pleasure to hear your stories
Thanks Douglas :)
Your clients probably would buy your images regardless which camera you use, but still interesting to know :-)
All the best
C
from the sample photos/shootouts of the fuji 50r etc the x1d/2d are miles better colour and tonality from what I see.
the 50mp sensor is way too old and Sony’s probably not gonna update that. The 100mp sensors are more commercially reasonable
I was interested in what you had to say but, ....my ears !! Going for a lay down to recover. Wow.
You are exquisitely honest.
Your insight is appreciated!
Great job!
Well said :).
Thanks Sanford, refreshing to hear someone say I'm not talking too fast :). Let me know how it goes with the X2D, curious to hear how you like it.
Brilliant channel! Thanks man!
Hanoi of Mike , welcome to our little community here.
What's the connection with billboards and high resolution. They're printed or lit at HD at best.
Brutally honest (and exhausting!!) - really appreciated you telling how you see it... Love your photography and your home...
Thanks Peter, I’m exhausted for you having to listen me for that long :).
To have the best of the best and give the best of the best, the price is not bad for what you getting in
if you want it . Hasse is the best if you get to master the camera, today in 2022 I still using my 501
I hope they will have X1D iii with about 50 mp but AF faster than X2D. It would be really good.
Me too.
Love your honesty!
Thank you 🙏
I agree, as an amateur enthusiast, 100 MP is overkill.
Thank you for the review. Dose X2D shoot Timelapse photography built in ?
"I don't have the camera in my possession".
You're killing me.
All that ranting and not a single image taken with the X2D. That is what it is all about. The image quality and color accuracy from the Hasselblad X2D are simply outstanding and have to been seen on a large monitor or a large print to be appreciated. It has everything I need and nothing I don't need.
Camera price is fine…I have the A1, this isn’t that much more than that or the GFX100s …it’s the lens cost that kills…
. Good point Sivelstro, I understand medium format lenses are harder and more expensive to make but they are just so pricey. Maybe if it becomes popular enough Sigma will make some lenses for it :).
@@AskMOTT I doubt that Sigma will do lenses with leaf shutter
True, the ,8 adapter coupled with HC lenses can soften the blow if you want to save loads of cash filling any gaps from the native xcd line up. I think the cost will depend on which lenses are necessary for your kit.
I had the same situation and feeling, worked a long time with the x1d, but after 5 years the body started to fail more an more, so I switched to fuji medium format because you couldn't rely on the system and it got me nervous, and discovered that this system is more in line with my photography work. And the lens quality is more my style, So I will not be switching back again.
Glad to hear you liked the Fuji Neils, I’ve heard good things about that system as well. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Thanks for cooling me down a little bit … hahahah 😂 good video!
Thanks for sharing Bertalan, I think their focused on amateurs because that is a much larger market :).
@@AskMOTT I think it is nice , because the costs are declining for us as pros
@@AskMOTT yes - a long story but a pro can't afford the gear now easily... it was quite different 30 years ago.
All digital cameras are great these days, it’s a big part of what I moved to film 😅 get kinda tired of perfect boring photos
I like the logic TJ :). I wish I had the patience for film in post production.
No eye detect. You need that on 100mp. Hasselblad stated that they didn’t claim it’s going to be released in a firmware update.
Going to buy this camera and shoot JPEG.
Ken Rockwell is that you? 😜
Would you buy this camera?
The camera is much better than what you state in your review. It’s unbelievable! Try it and then make a new updated video!!! Great job anyway!
I can only imagine product and museum photographers using this, I think anything past 35-40mp is overkill to me. Sweet spot is somewhere between 16-24 for most ppl. I like 10mp 😅 enough to get the job done and a little extra wiggle room for alignment.
I agree with you Donovan, 35mp is sort of perfect for me as well.
@@AskMOTT Sounds right for 35mm. Photographers who used the D850 would shoot medium raw or 33mp.
Just sold my M11, will see what I get next, not a professional photographer, just for pleasure
Yeah, billboards are actually extremely low resolution, viewers are very far from them when viewing so they don't need much resolution.
great vid as always - thx! not to digress, but are you aware of a source that would list the top cities/locations/photo ops in Vietnam? thanks!
I'm your source ha ha. you can check out these guys and tell them I sent you. www.picsofasia.com/tour/5-day-central-vietnam/
Regards…
Great vid, Wondering what the difference between Leica and Hasselblad colour science ? Since you had use own both.
I'm only a minute in and I like the intro... good to know credibility before investing time into a review!
Thanks Joseph, I was worried it was a bit too long but then I thought screw it, people can skip ahead if they want.
Yes I think i would. I have the excess and easily burn some of my income on the entire h as well as x systems…😛 no never… 25mp is more than enough for me. But who knows? I might buy one and you speak slowly…
25mp is plenty for most. Ok , forget it, I’m going back to speaking at my normal fast pace and people can just slow it down if they want ha ha.
Would be interested in your thoughts
Thanks v much in advance!
How does the AF speed and accuracy compares to that of GFX100s?
How could he know?!?
X2D looks amazing I think. I stayed away from the first gen as it was seemed unfinished. Will buy the X2D. In love with Hasselblad colours. I wonder how you’re getting along with the Sony colour? I use them at work, but am so tired of the poor colour out of cameras. Fixing it in post takes time and isn’t always easy when you don’t know what to edit for.
Never cared for the Fujifilm. Lesser image quality and surprisingly poor ergonomics and build quality.
I don’t love the colors out of the Sony but I don’t hate them either so I’m overall happy w the system.
Lesser image quality, you don't know what you are talking about?
I’d never buy Fujifilm (rather HB) but considering the cameras and the whole lenses, quality is on par if not higher.
That’s skinny compared to my “fat pixel” 9um 22mp CCD back. I still use this sensor and it’s great.
I will say having a single system is a massive plus , if I was in your feet I will stay with the Sony.
It feels good Jaime, we are so versatile now and covered for so many situations.
They could throw a body together pretty quickly, it's more likely that if they are going that route they are spending time on mount and lens designs.
Thanks
@@AskMOTT Cool, you're obviously now embracing the wonderful Vietnam vibe. I loved my time in Da Nang...
My point is don't buy, you don't need, Done :).
@jp jast I guess my sarcasm was lost on you...
X2D + 3 new Lenses = US$20k+ You need some serious justification. X2D does photos. No video.
Ha, backup med format. Errrrr, doesn’t really happen that often by all that I’ve come by. Who all use phase… no, too much $ for seconds, that’s crackers even for older ones. But whatever.
I love my m11 that‘s it. this camera is to much. Greetings
Incredible camera :).
@@AskMOTT oh yes - my photobag - m11 21mm 24mm 35mm 50mm - that‘s for me all what i need 👍😁
Would have preferred you wait to review after you actually see one work.
My condolences for switching to Sony
Ha ha, well I wouldn't call it a complete switch, still going strong with my Leica gear for editorial and personal work :). Sony just made too much sense for my business with video and stills and multiple shoots going on at once.
@@AskMOTT Hi, hehe.. just a bit funny 😁 but a bit serious about it also😊 I think you know what I mean.
I’m going between MF an FF my self, but my choice of brand is Canon C70, R5C, and Fujifilm GFX100S and Phase One XF
But the new Hasselblad is ordered 👍
Phase One is on its way to a new photographer..
All can say is you’ve made a gigantic mistake. 10-80-10
Ya, you're still talking fast. Haha
Stop it :)
@@AskMOTT Good for anyone who takes your one on one... more bang for the buck!
You talk too slow
Damn you Ted!!!
Ugly video!
I felt it was beautiful but to each his own.
