important fact that she missed is the school structure difference. Countries like China, U.S.A, Russia has a professional sporting setup in their schools. That setup nurtures and strengthens the basics of the players and those exceptional then join specialised academies. This is why those countries has so many high level players. In India there is no sports culture in schools and players like Sindhu and Lakshay Sen are made by private academies which not everyone can afford.

I was a huge fan of Saina… then I started to notice jealousy in her attitude towards Sindhu. I remember during 2020 Olympic, Saina used to congratulate every medal winner on her Facebook account. She didn’t do the same when Sindhu won it.. later on I could find the same pattern afterwards as well..

The chinese invincibility was created mainly from 2006-2012 due to the man in your thumbnail Lin Dan the way he dominated the badminton circuit for those 6 years made a lot of young boys fall in love and try the game. In sport terms complete player who has the 3 most important qualities unbelievable physical fitness(his wrist and stamina), mind (great strategic mind), dedication and longevity(constant improvement and adaptation to his own game). Many greats were there but missing one. LCW mentality. Taufi dedication. So LD is unique, a true legend.

What Sindhu said is accurate. China does have a large pedigree of top players which is due to good coaches and support from their government. India can and should also do the same. Indian badminton players are now coming out slowly into the world top rankings. Chinese badminton players are beatable, at the moment I feel the it’s quite balance right now.

Only few knows how competitive badminton is in India. It has never been one sindhu. When we say Chinese are unbeatable, they actually are. If we talk about the fact that they lose 2 3 matches out of 100 they win, that doesn't mean chinese are beatable easily. She sounds like oh It's very easy to beat any Chinese player. Look at the legacy of lin dan, chen long. Even indians supported them coz they saw the skills that theu can never see in sindhu and saina. It has been the reality and face it, Chinese are unbeatable.

How many times have we seen lin dan or chen long win clutch points and matches (even the womens gold in olympics was won by china). its not as if they are ranked no.1 for the whole year but they win when it matters most. its the champion mentality that sets them apart. they dont play bcoz they just like the sport, thats just the beginning. they play to win.

Another front is availability + affordability of the sport . This is where the government can help. Are there enough sport arenas ( multipurpose indoor arena not just for badminton ) ? Are there enough local competitions ? ... etc . The problem is not just about beating the Chinese , but to be world no. 1 talent pool .

Personally I would say there is no shame in losing to Chinese players, and Sindhu is perhaps showcasing more bravado than practical. Sindhu did touched the right topic but left out some important things.. The Chinese badminton team has always been strong, even going back all the way to the 1980’s, and while there have been ups and downs in number of medals/ tournaments etc., they have stayed fairly consistent. This is possible only when the players are given chance to play against other equally good or better players.. for example, Lin Dan’s training partners have been Xia Xunze, Chen Hong, Chen Long, Chen Jin, Bao Chunlai, and the list goes on and on.. All of these players are either World Champion winners or All England or Olympic medallists. I am very sure that without this sort of a roster it is next to impossible to have winning teams. Similarly in Doubles, Mixed Doubles and Women singles. This is only possible when we move away from a ‘ Star player’ approach to a system based approach, which of course is never going to happen in India. Because it is so much easier to just worship a Sindhu or Saina or Sachin without actually thinking to improve the system as a whole.

I know they are lacking a little in the MS department now, but we may have made the "mistake" of comparing this batch with two of the greatest of all time, Lin Dan and Chen Long. If the Olympics were played next week, you'd think the Chinese still have a big chance to win gold in three of the five disciplines.
