Cambridge CSB Diadem Bible Review

Up to this point, the Cambridge Diadem series has been a larger version of the popular Pitt Minion series. Now, Cambridge has released a Diadem in the CSB. This is not only Cambridge's first CSB, but it's also the first Diadem that isn't based on a smaller Bible. It's available in several covers. I'm reviewing the CSB Diadem in brown calfskin. This is model CS545:XRE, ISBN: 9781009435741. It was printed and bound in the Netherlands by Royal Jongbloed.

The Diadem footprint never really appealed to me but I absolutely adore the Pitt! I really hope to see a CSB Pitt someday.

I really really want to like this, but I'm having trouble with the space between the lines. It seems too tight on the screen. Lexicon is readable at 8pt but space between the lines helps a lot, like in the Crossway New Testament and Psalms. On this Bible, the words just seemed packed together, especially in the Old Testament with very few section breaks.

I agree. It just looks too crowded. If they increased the line spacing like Crossway does, it would be excellent. I don't think I would enjoy the Diadem for this reason. Too bad because center column reference is my favorite layout. I'm sticking with my CSB LP compact reference.

​@@CreationhorseIt's just such a shame, because I've been waiting for a CSB on nice paper with a layout and font that I like. Holman keeps using Bible Serif and I just don't like how thin and squeezed it is at smaller sizes. My eyes get tired reading it. I love Lexicon, so I was hoping to love this. If they had just a smidge more space between the lines, this would be wonderful.

I had the ESV and returned it because of this reason, at least in Romans in particular, it was just chaos with the verse numbers, footnotes, and reference numbers. I wish I watched Randy's review first; he actually points stuff life that out instead of just gushing about it being the greatest thing he's ever seen.

​@@caomhan84Yes, exactly. I love the Lexicon type and the CSB. BUT need good paper and more generous line spacing. Until then, I'm getting by with the CSB LP Compact, and the CSB Restoration bible 9 pt type, out of print.
And I read Esv 8-9 pt Lexicon.

You ESV guys are spoiled by Crossway…nobody else has a layout that easy on the eyes. I have a Zondervan Premier NRSVue, Catholic Illustrated NRSV-CE & Schuyler RSV. The only real issues I have with the Zondervan is the lines are too crowded and they use a really uninspired contemporary blockletter font for the headings. In practice it’s not much of a problem tho. The Illustrated Bible is single column which is nice but still slightly crowded linespacing. The Schuyler has nice relaxed spacing tho.
Personally I like the old-school look of the Diadem. If it comes out in NRSVue like I heard it will I will probably get it. But I agree with you, if Cambridge makes an NRSVue reference bible with a cleaner font l will probably get it instead. Overall though I’m glad Cambridge upholds the classic look. I doubt it’s really as much of an issue as it looks like it might be, people are just accustomed to different styles nowadays.

hi randy i found u last nite searching for refference bibles.. i found what i was looking for. now i have a question. i live in maine. and i dont have a solid footing on religion path... im scouting. we have pesprteranyn /baptist and catholic here and jahovah... i have spent 3 day literally looking for a reff bible....what i did learn was that and other bible titles are a off shoot to the normal bible, like branches off a trunk of a tree.... like refference/ study/ prayer/etc... i like the kjv .is that alone... the MAIN TRUNK the 1611 bible? thank u for ur time... have a great wkend

While the size of the Diadem is perfect, the text is gray and not black and the text reads very crowded on the page in the ESV hardcover I have.

@@BibleBuyingGuide I have had a KJV Cambridge concord for 10 years and its great but I recently bought a Schuyler KJV personal size Canterbury and love the layout
