So why do dog doors have codes and standards? And if a fire happened in your house how do your pets get out if your not home? lol world’s greatest advice!!!!
I live in Arizona and cut a whole through the brick wall from my laundry room to my yard so my dogs could at least come into the laundry room when I’m gone without supplying access to the house if someone or something wants to climb through. I just deadbolt the heavy door that is our laundry room door.
By code, when your house was built the walls between the garage and the house/attic including any passage doors are "fire rated." Penetrations of exterior walls (doogy doors) can pose a security problem. In any of those instances, you are at a higher risk. Have a contractor take a look at what you have. Doesn't cost anything to find out.

Hate on building safety codes. Curious. Hate on government.

It's all about fire.
A raccoon came through my cat door last night and came into the kitchen to eat the cat food.
Oops, a wild animal in the house, suboptimal!
That’s why pet doors are dangerous. They should somehow be lockable!
But dog doors give dogs full freedom
Freedom is great. Like most every other risk in life, you get to manage it.
@@ChuckKlein makes sense
