sweet video! my band uses ez bass or some sort of equivalent as we don't currently have a bassist. My guitarist lives like right down the street from you apparently, he turned me on to your channel. We should work together sometime!! I really enjoy making videos as well!
@@RecordingStudioLoser his name is Chris and our band is Konki ( th-cam.com/users/konkiband) right now he is mixing everything but it would be super nice to get some of that weight off his shoulders.
Yeah; i agree with the comments below. It's not a real shoot out if they don't play the same stuff. EZBass is not bad, especially for the more background bass tasks. But judging by this video alone, Aquaman kicked EZBass' ass. That drop at 05:12 ... damn!
Very entertaining delivery. 2 Thumbs Way Up. I am a big fan of ToonTrack... for the instruments I DON'T play. :) They definitely fill a hole in what I can accomplish as a DIY Solo Songwriter Guy (TM). Would I use it for an instrument I DO play? I do play bass. But when this was released i thought hard about getting it. Not because I think it can play bass better than me, but I've found there is value in being able to quickly drop in a properly timed and tuned placeholder as a guide instrument even if I don't use it in the finished track. I write my songs on guitar and vocal, away from the computer. So when I walk up to record it, I have an arrangement and a tempo in hand. I often use EZKeys to quickly block out tempo and song structure, knowing full well I won't use those blocked parts on the finished track. From there I don't waste time on bad takes if I don't get the feel right first take. I've got a "chickenwire frame" to drape parts over, like strips of plaster paris. I can focus on getting a good feel and PERFORMANCE for each of the instruments I'm going to PLAY. The order I put them down in becomes less important with that framework there. Maybe I'm not feeling that rhythm guitar part today, or I popped my last G string. I don't have to stop. The structure is there to prop things up until I can get some replacement strings. I can switch gears and do some vocals. Start working out a solo. Suture in a different chord in the bridge. Add some hand percussion. Start writing a bass part. Play a digiridoo glissando. My chickenwire frame keeps the SESSION moving forward, so that every move of the hand moves me closer to what's right for the song. Sometimes that block keyboard actually winds up on the song, often it doesn't. Either way, I finish faster and never lose sight of the song along the way..
Thats where I find its useful honestly... getting very fast very flexible Pre Pro done. And on the off chance the bass player can't really play or the equipment isn't up to snuff... or the budget runs low and we run out of time, its not a terrible option to keep in a mix honestly. Not ideal... but very interesting.
@@RecordingStudioLoser Indeed, something is better than nothing! Unless nothing is better, in which case you go commando. As a fingerstyle player, I sometimes skip the bass, go less aggressive on the high pass filter, and you'd never know there wasn't a bass player.
would love to see someone actually compared human-sequenced MIDI to the same bassline played on a real bass. of course a generated bassline is going to suck! but what about the timbre?
I would have loved to see the two playing the same songs. Dude’s a good player but all that noodling is pretty useless in the context of your sample songs.
The idea was to go back and use ez Bass in his tracks. To see if it can keep up with the noodles. This was some fun we were having on the day of its release.
Recording where bass is the focus instrument and carries the melody: real bass player. Recording where bass is in it's place holding together the foundation: ez or real, don't think it really matters. When EZ was just holding together the foundation it sounded just fine.
The ending was hilarious. In EZ Bass' defence, the way the bass player is playing here is overkill for the vast majority of songs out there. For simpler bass lines, I think it'll be much more even.
Been a Toontrack customer for over 10yrs now, I love your video for 2 reasons. 1. EZ Bass player isnt meant to replace actual bass players 🤷♂️ 2. You demonstrated just a touch of its capabilities to help take non bass playing song writers to the next level. Ah and even a 3rd reason why I liked this video, its made me smile 😃.
@@RecordingStudioLoser I literally just got it as an early Christmas gift yesterday and I can’t wait to sit down and mess around with it but in all fairness the one thing you didn’t demo with it was the fact that it’ll actually take guitar riffs and turn them into baselines I think your Bass Player buddy might be in a little trouble 😂
@@RecordingStudioLoser I have a song that I played bass on, and when I tried to upload the bass line into EZ bass, it was a mess, on its own the bass line is killer, not so much in EZbass 🤷♂️. Why use toontrack instruments: for music producers. 1. You understand music but has a limited skills playing drums, keys or (worse) even bass. 2. You don't have or have a limited resources to access and record these instruments. 3. You just want to create from scratch (demo) tracks for inspiration. That will be replaced by another musicians in the final mix.
Would be interesting to audio track the great bass parts of that player with EZ bass to see what comes out. Just playing back the styles from the grooves section can be an amazing thing.
Yes that’s the original idea I’m the first place to see if ez Bass could do all these interesting articulations back to back. That was a huge selling point of the product. So I’m anxious to see how it does.
@@RecordingStudioLoser cool. I can fiddle on the piano keyboard like this bass player and for sure some great sounding results come out of EZ bass with a bit after work spent.
