the syrup you get from only boiling and draining the sugar beets is actually a pretty common thing to spread on Butterbrot (dark bread with butter) in some parts of germany. It's called Zuckerrübensirup (which literally translates to sugar beets syrup) and tastes delicious!
The ending was incredible "This is borscht. With the amount of beets I have, I will be eating borscht for the foreseeable future. I don't even know if I like it"
I never comment on videos but I just wanted to say you're doing an amazing job! I find that you're starting to inject your personality and comedy in the newer videos and it's great. For the amount of effort and care you put into your projects, you really deserve more attention! Keep it up, you're doing great!

+Lilly Dragon Because I wasn't able to separate the the white sugar completely, it ended up tasting mostly like the molasses. It has a slight bitterness to it, but it wasn't that strong and not too overwhelming.
TOMBEE 123 It's unfortunately been out of budget for us at this point, but we are working on arrangements to hopefully cover it in the next few months.
Firstly, borsch is a dish of Ukrainian national cuisine. At the same time borsch is cooked in Poland, Russia and in Belarus. In this borsch is used, among other vegetables, sugar beet. Secondly, borscht from sugar beet is a very rare dish. It is cooked mainly in the countryside. He is not as popular as the red beet. And the soup itself is called "chervony borsch" - "red borsch". But that is another story. By the way, except for beets in borsch, there are carrots, potatoes, onions, beans and meat, beef is better, then borsch can be called the best dietary dish.
what you should do is masz the beets (grate them or use food processor) and press squeeze all juice. you should then let the water evaporate slowly and it would start crystalising on its own. then you should get yourself a drum with mesh sides and spin sirup with sugar. thats basically how they are making sugar on large scale and with this you would get melases as well.
I love your videos, keep them coming! There is some room for improvement though for example, when chopping the beets, you smell it and then taste it. You should explain what it smells and tastes like. Also, in 1/5 of this series, there was lots of jump cuts which switched between wide shot and a close up of your face while you were talking. I know that you cannot easily shoot it all in one shot but more variety would be nice, e.g. have some pictures of what you are talking about or different camera shots rather than just switching between the two. I hope you read this and it has been constructive.
Thats what you pick up on ? He is harming the cheap nasty knife , plenty of other tool miss use and abuse in these series , using hacksaws to cut wood , felling a tree like a hipster , blunt axe and poor technique and all.
hard cutting surface make sharp knives blunt , the average hipster has blunt knives anyway so it is not really that relevant. I have nice knives and keep them sharp it makes cooking a pleasure and with few exception ( where I use a HDPE board for things like supper hot chili which would both stain a wooden board and impart a hot flavor to other foods) I always cut on wooden chopping boards. It is well worth investing in 1 or 2 quality knives ( usually a chefs/cooks knife and a decent pearing knife dosnt hurt but if you cant afford a good one dont sweat it) a means of sharpening and a wooden cutting board. I personally prefer Wüsthof knives.
plant base sugar like fruit sugar cane juice and beet and even real honey don't give you diabetes because its not processed however white sugar or honey comes sugar fed bees it will
So many Beets and so little sugar...as a brasilian who has seen the same process ,but from sugar CANES...i can tell it almost worth put some thousands of incandescent lamps in the field and cultivate sugar canes in temperate climate regions lol
Looks interesting but did your entire trunk full and many hours go into making that like 2 tablespoons of sugar? All seriousness what can you expect to pull from say a dozen beets? Thank you
How did you get the farmer to allow you to pick your own beets? I don't trust people with my food so I've been trying to find a farm that I can purchase produce but pull it on my own.
That reminds me I have to go warm up my borsh with normal red beets a slice of cured salted salo and a shot of vodka ....dammit I don't have any more bread ... something always up ... eather no garlic, no bread or no sour cream,, I guess I will have to compensate with extra vodka then .........Slav problems... And for those that don't like borsh, I will tell you a Russian joke about cats.....: If you don't like Cats, its because you just haven't tried my grandma's recipe...
I love how these earlier episodes were kinda depressing in a comedic sort of way.... the look on your face when you say i’;Leaving in a few probably be eating beets for the foreseeable future. Lots of borche (sp?) I don’t even know if I like it........ sad yet funny..... 😆 😞

Sugar beets and red beets. Not the same thing.
"What are you doing in our research feild?"
"Beats me."
Don't you mean BEETs me?
Ha hacking
Those knife skills gave me shivers.
If you are heating up the beets above 83°c/181°f the sugar will caramelize and loose it' ability to crystallize into pure beet sugar.
Thanks. Very good information.
Thank you sir. This was the comment I was looking for. If you have any more wisdom to share I’m all ears.
Sugar beets look so satisfying to pull out of the ground. Reminds me of Harvest Moon.

I'm glad you re-tackled the sugar beets. Earlier you said the molasses was bitter tasting? So how does the sugar taste?
+Lilly Dragon Because I wasn't able to separate the the white sugar completely, it ended up tasting mostly like the molasses. It has a slight bitterness to it, but it wasn't that strong and not too overwhelming.
+How To Make Everything why not suger cane it's delicious
TOMBEE 123 I'm sure he'd love to do sugar cane if you want to pay for him to travel to where it grows.
TOMBEE 123 It's unfortunately been out of budget for us at this point, but we are working on arrangements to hopefully cover it in the next few months.

2:11 thicc beet

I'd use an axe for those beets, considering the knife was so difficult
It was a French blockade of the British not a British blockade

You've got some sick beets there at around 1:34.
Who told you molasses from cane sugar is bitter?
Molasses from cane sugar is not bitter and got a lot of health benefits!
He meant the molasses from the sugar beets
Stetson to get this man sharper knifes
I'm amazed that you still had all of your fingers at the end of the video.
2:35 reminded me of dwight's brother's valet service
*insertcreativeusernamehere* It was his cousin Moss who did that
Soooo many beets!
We have huge sugar beets in our city They are being harvested now ^^
I'm starting to wonder if he's doing this illegally
Dude just wanders into a university research field and stole a couple beets
Sounds good
He is beeting the system

Too much. Too high a bar.
That poor knife, not using a cutting board.
+TheMusicalmelody Actually granite is good for cutting stuff if its not acidic. You would need a pretty huge cutting board for that!
+namedcreekrocks I know
+TheMusicalmelody ikr surprised there was no blood from it catching and then releasing.

Were you in Crookston, when getting the beets? If so, GO PIRATES💙💛
+Gabe Montieth Nope, not quite. We were just outside Moorhead.
as someone who plays with sharp objects in the kitchen, i am worried about that knife becoming very dull.....
I ate molasses cookies as a child. They're not as common now. They are yummy. You should try them. Not as bitter as you think
Fascinating!!!!
Man, this guy failed knife safety 101.
Nice job I feel sorry for the hard work
You missed a chance to say dia-beet-es at 2:08

Did you just steal those beets?
Looks interesting but did your entire trunk full and many hours go into making that like 2 tablespoons of sugar? All seriousness what can you expect to pull from say a dozen beets? Thank you
Wow, its weird that tropical sugar cane is more harvested than classic sugarbeet....
if yall are taking suggestions, how to make a book would be helpful. the paper, ink, cover, binding glue, and the pen or pencil.
Lots of sugar beet grow where I live

no need to wash / scrub the beets from that loose dirt?
Can you talk about making magnets
in The Netherlands there is almost no sugar beet sugar, almost all sugar here almost all sugar is crystal sugar.
brought to you by schrute farms
When did you wash the beets
borsh everyone!
You should try making a pizza from scratch.
HTME: Diabetes
He was so young.
If you're eating borsh and not sure if you like it - you're cooking it wrong.
Add a recipe
I think I would prefer a small hatchet axe for that cutting
Great video though
Iirc they taste a bit sweet with the consistency of a carrot
Raw sugar beets taste like sweet dirt. How to get that taste out?
cook it?
Is the actual sugar beet sweet?
It's noticeably sweeter then a regular beet, but the sugar beat itself isn't candy-sweet or anything, it still tastes like a regular beet,
I love pickled sugar beets. Sweet-tart yum.
Why would you smell it?😳💭
1:01 looks like a green scren
+Quinn Leffingwell if you say so all knowing youtube elder
+overloaded gamig little late
Quinn Leffingwell im sorry, il try harder to get to videos i didn t know existed and im bored
