  • Take a tour with me down Bladensburg road NE and end at the intersection with New York avenue while taking a trip through history of the area. We will walk past Mount Olivet cemetery and the National Arboretum during our tour in NE DC.

While I haven't been up that way in years I always wondered how Queen's Chapel Rd got its name. Great video.

Thank you for the history. A lot of people, including me, travel these roads and have no clue.

Love your work! I’m a native Washingtonian living in Houston, my family home is in the 16th St. Heights/Petwortn area. I’d love to sponsor a video on that area.

Wow! This brings back memories. I had a few patients in this area when I worked in D.C. One was in the apartment building at the beginning of the video. That CVS is……interesting at times. 😂😂😂

As long as they don't try to change the name of streets like the did Good Hope Road

THAT part!! Good hope road = the Anacostans (Piscataway tribe) name for the road to good hope and plenty!

@@VCooper52 word on the street is, They wanna change New York Ave to "Sonya" and put buildings over there. Finger crossed they don't change any more of what makes the City what it has been to us. 🤞🏾

HONEY I WAS RAISED IN S.E. HAVEN'T BEEN THERE IN YEARS. I WENT LAST WEEKEND TO ANACOSTIA PARK, AND WHEN LEAVING MADE A RIGHT ON MLK, AND NOTICE THE SIGN DIDN'T SAY GOOD HOPE RD... MADE A UTURN AND WENT UP GOOD HOPE AND REALIZED THEY REALLY CHANGED IT TO M. BARRY... I WAS TOO THRU!

@@t1m3z_hard_w0rld_chang1n had a park Ranger at the park at one point. I came up on Varney st and Stanton Terrace. Once I seen them hit that I knew it was a rap. I was born in Kenilworth
Word on the street is all of the car jackings that are happening is because there's a "chop shop" over there and now you got the DMV over there too. My tag was stolen last year and I got a ticket for it. They found who had my tag, and voided the ticket but they won't take my name from the tags. I left the City last year, luckily I did it before the summer started to get serious. Times are seriously changing, don't seem like for the better for the natives or the residents

This is definitely very interesting growing up in the area of Queen Chapel was always a place that was passed by. Also, my grandmother lived in Langdon, and my great grandparents house was in Woodridge. I once Lived in Queenstown off Queens Chapel Road in Maryland. Always wondered why the DC and Maryland Queens chapel Roads didn’t connect. Great video!

Once I-295 passes north of I-695 in D.C., it's no longer an interstate but a city freeway by the name of DC-295. In a state, it would be called a state freeway or a state road or a state highway! Once DC295 crosses into MD, it's no longer DC-295. At that point, it's now MD-295/Baltimore Washington Parkway, which is state road/Parkway all the way to Baltimore! Next time you take I-295 in D.C., look at the sign once you approach the I-695 junction, especially if you're going north. Look at the sign above, and you'll see that the sign where I-295 with the blue shield changes to DC-295 with the white sign that's in the shape of D.C. borders. Most people never pay that sign any attention, so they think I-295 goes all the way to the MD border by BW Parkway, or they think it goes all the way to Baltimore like she said in the video.

For years I have always imagined New York avenue fix a better way with either flyovers or underpass between the main avenue so that traffic could flow a little easier but somehow maybe the money is not there to do this or the will.

I guarantee you that mansion and the land belonged to our ancestors before it belonged to the Queen family, but of course, that history would no longer be or is somewhere suppressed. Most of our people don't know that plantation mansions and the plantations were originally ours, not theirs. How they got them is a whole different story.

@@dikidindc Once y'all realize and understand that we and our ancestors are and were not Africans that came to America on boats, that's when things will start making more sense. A lot of the history that we have about our people are either not true at all, or was given backwards, or was exaggerated! Slavery stories are all 3 of what I just said. We have been bamboozled. America belongs to our people. It's our birthright. We just need to understand that places and roles were switched and told backwards. Our people's minds are gonna be blown when they find out what really happened, who we really are, and our original status. Most of them won't even believe any of it!

The problem with these redevelopment projects is that we brown folks in D.C. never go to the meetings to put our word in to say what we want in these projects. That's why so little of these projects are low income. We aren't saying anything, and the current mayor don't give a shit about us, so she ain't gon make it much of a benefit to us. Marion Barry would have made majority of it beneficial to our people! May his soul rest!
