being a guitar picker since 1963 is a gift and more of a curse , once you get old and your mind and fingers and hands have other ideas , i must have played this tune 2000 times over the years and yesterday i got the urge to play it again after 20 years and for 8 hours it caused me great depression but finally my mind and hands came around , btw this video got my head right
Howard, you are the man. As a former teacher, I'm compelled to observe your style is outstanding. Clear, concise, no wasted energy or prattle; "Here's where we're going, and here's how we get there." your "bedside manner" is reassuring and comforting. With your guidance, anyone who has been playing 12 bar blues in E can easily pick this (and People are Strange) up and have fun playing it/them. Carry on, please.
What a brilliant tutorial of an epic song. You teach very clearly nothing rushed and easy to follow. Thank you for taking the time to do this video and sharing your skills with us all. It is greatly appreciated
This lesson is literally perfect both in its technical accuracy and Howard’s uncanny and amazing ability to inspire confidence in players at all levels. I thank you Howard for being such a great teacher who is willing to share your knowledge!!
That A7 groove really makes it for me. I just love that part. Robbie Krieger really knew/knows how to make the most of a small amount of diatonic content.
Absolutely, the best guitar lesson lesson of this song on the internet, in fact your explanation is better than Robbie Krieger demonstration. He does go back to the open "A" string that one time. You have a great ear. Good luck to all.
Bro just woke up this morning pick up a guitar world and saw Love her madly. Came here to get some tips. And dam you nailed Love her. And now this one. Extremely freaking post brother. Robbie a fucking Beast. Unleash the beast. Beaulesson. Love your realism and approach. A WHOLE LOT OF APPRECIATION. Lived in L.A in the 70s 80s. I'm from Pittsburgh PA . HERE IN 75. IM IN CALIFORNIA BECAUSE OF THE DOORS. RIDERS ON A STORM PLAYED IN THE MORNING AT MY HIGH SCHOOL. SO I HITCHHIKED TO CALIFORNIA 1975. STILL HERE.
Great tone and teaching! Love that you have done Doors lessons. Hard to find good Doors guitar stuff out there. Robby Kreiger often gets overlooked as an influential 60s guitarist.
Just saw this video. Tremendous presentation.with great clarity. There is a ton of stuff going on in this song and you explain and demonstrate all of it very well.
Have you seen Robbie's instructional on this song? I love the lizard tounge demonstration he adds to the vibrato sections. Robbie must have posted close to your video release, about 3 years ago?
You are AN EXCELLENT TEACHER!!!!! YYou stay focused on the subject and don't get sidetracked like too many others do. This makes it Soooo much easier for us aspiring students@
If you listen closely to the recording, the 5th note in the opening riff is actually an A, not a B....hahaha....just got to @2:12 in the video seconds after I typed that. Good man!
I’ve been playing guitar for over a decade and would consider myself pretty decent, but any time I try to learn Doors material I’m always left dumbfounded by how technical of a guitarist Robby Kreiger was. I sometimes have to put the guitar down and try another day with some of his licks.
Lovely jobly.. thanks Howard, I spent a couple of hours on it .. sounds good.. obviously not as good as you but I'm happy with what I can do.. great stuff. Cheers
Great lesson, well laid out and easy to follow. Only thing i hear differently, and you mention it but don't play it, is the D7 at 6:36. I think the arpeggiated notes start out with the partial D7 shape, open D on 4th string, 2nd fret A on 3rd string, first fret C on 2nd string, and the open E first followed by the fretted D on 2nd string, 3rd fret. He doesn't always play the first fret C on the 2nd string but you hear it later
Hey this is cool, great lesson, as always, what model tele is that, a Mexican Tele or an American Tele? I have a tele with a maple fretboard, but I am looking for a tele with a Rosewood Fretboard. Thank you for posting this.

I used my Orange Crush 20 practice amp. It's the clean channel with the bass and mids at about 12:00 and the treble at 10:00 - a little bit of verb as well.

Good lesson but I am looking for that cool bass solo that you play on your 'short'

It's an American Standard
best guitar tutorial on youtube
Thank you :-)
Another great one. Requesting the Cars let’s go !
Eazy to learn with you!
But it will be good if you add full tabs to the description on videos. Tnx.
Thanks for watching... You're probably right. Most of my videos do include on-screen tab. But there are a few that don't. Thanks again, Howard
Have you ever a lesson on Hello, I Love you?
A great idea!
Hi thanks for the video Do I need to connect anything to the middle terminal post? Or can I just use the two outer ones?
Pretty cool. When I listen more carefully, I think I'm hearing intervals from Day Tripper. I could be wrong.
I like your lessons a lot. can I make request? lawyers, guns, and money by warren zevon.
Can u play all the parts after the lesson or b4 so we know what it sounds like🍺
Thanks for watching... I had a performance prepared and edited into the video, but apparently there was a copyright issue... sorry about that.
