Wow, this was a heated debate... great points all around, but one thing missing is the fact that a lot of the arguments center around the idea that Hutch is the only one getting sacks- hopefully the idea of upgrading the D-line is to get sacks from others- thus improving the teams sacks total. So, would we judge Hutch as a poor season if the other DE position gets 10 sacks? I don't think so...

Hutch hasn't been on Garrett, Crosby, or NBosa's level yet as a DE, and thats to be expected, he's ENTERING year 3!!!
Hutch's stats through 2 yrs compare quite well with ALL of them. Only stat he lags on through 2 yrs is TFL's. But Hutch also ranks 1st among those 3 in total turnover worthy plays forced with 4 Int's, 3 FF's, & 4 FR's.
If you have eyes and aren't blinded by biases you can EASILY see that Hutch is on a trajectory to be in the conversation for 1st or 2nd Team All Pro, THIS YEAR.
The Lions are going be a JUGGERNAUT for years to come... try to ENJOY IT!!!
We were like first in the league in QB pressures last year. The problem was it didn't result in any negative quarterback play. They would usually just scramble for the first down run for like 20 yards because we can't handle a running quarterback so I'm not too thrilled to hear him be so happy about QB pressures. We need the QB pressures to turn into negative plays, then I'll be happy

Even Lawrence Taylor couldn't get sacks when the offense adjusted by getting rid of the ball faster - but that's the effect good DEs have on the game.

Pressures are more individual. Sacks are more team oriented. Hutch consistently got in the backfield. We see his whiffs and only see the negatives. When the QB saw it coming. Without Aidan this d-line would have been complete dog shit. Having said that, with more talent around him, I do expect a few more sacks out of Aidan this year.

Hutchinson had plenty of help at Michigan. He had 7 sacks through 9 weeks. Then he had 6 in 2.
This completely inflated his totals. And if you go back further, it’s worse.
Look at his current totals from 2023 and 2022. You see this exact trajectory.
It doesn’t take much of a brain to realize this is who he is. He will go long stretches with a small or negligible impact. Then have a couple games with a bunch of sacks and, for whatever reason, fans forget about his absence the other weeks.
Flannel be spitting facts. And they not listening. What he said about the greats who never had a 15 sack season should have shut the conversation down.

Official sack record of 22.5 is shared by Watt and Strahan and the unofficial is 23 by Bubba Baker. I think, with help, Hutch can break that record w/o being gifted with it like Strahan was.

Hutchinson didn’t receive a single all pro vote. Not one. Not even from the Lions beat writers who have one.This year they allowed the players all pro votes and Hutchinson wasn’t mentioned either.
Fans overrate the guy. He is wildly inconsistent. Fans will grasp at straws and say “He WAs HeLd!” and think everybody will just toss their hands up. Or (my favorite) “We NEeD To HeLp AiDUn!” without realizing that argument could be made to lift any middling player up.
The guy needs to be more consistent. No idea why fans are afraid of that.
No one says he has no room for improvement. People are pointing out that he was a rookie/yr 2 player and people like you have been OVERLY critical of him. As someone else mentioned above, look at the 1st 2 years of Nick Bosa, Crosby, and Garretts careers. He has similar (and in some cases better) numbers. There are also guys who I’m sure you think are lightyears better than Hutch, who HAVE the “help” that you chalk up to meaning they must be “middling”. You have some hypocritical takes.

This is the dumbest argument, ive ever heard about an individual player. Its like saying barry sanders when you didnt hit 1800yd from scrimmage it was your fault didnt make the playoffs.
Hutchinson is a top 10 edge, and i am not going to grade his season off sacks or how the defense as a whole played. If you watched him play you know how well he performed and how often he got double and triple teamed.
