Elsewhere, Rupert discusses "compassionate concessions" that one sometimes has to make to the (fictional) seperate self. As I understand it (for lack of better framework, from a psychological perspective), in some cases, attempting to appeal directly to the True Self has the opposite of the intended effect, as it causes the ego to panic, deploy defense mechanisms, double down. A certain degree of awareness is necessary before there can be any receptivity to direct pointing. To belabour the John Smith/King Lear analogy: if John Smith believes himself to be King Lear, he thinks and acts on Lear's behalf. What does a king do if someone insists that he is not the king? Not listen with open and intent curiousity, that's for sure! More nuanced and skillful means would be necessary in order to guide Smith back to himself.

This is a great summary. The only issue is that some people do need to develop some focus and stability of mind before being able to take a stand and abide as that. If it were that easy, everyone would be self realised. That is why progressive paths place an emphasis on developing certain skills before abiding as that, and why most non dualists are walking around deluding themselves that they’re already enlightened and living their so called truth. Otherwise, yeah, it’s simple and a “fast” route.
I think it’s simple in the sense that when you realize the being that you are, the understanding of what you should be doing to stay aligned to your most true being and self becomes evident. So the work that you should be doing, mental and physical(meditation, breathing, yoga, walking, whatever) will naturally follow when you’re aligned to your being. The other spiritual practices focus too much on the physical, or the mental, or “ascending” your soul now, instead of truly embodying the being that we truly are behind it all
@@panes840 IMHO, we need to realize our essential nature is being ( what I am), and not form (what I do). I guess this is what myv3sa means by "align ourselves." I think if you watch more videos of Rupert, he will guide you to observe your essence. His videos have certainly helped me. Blessings!
Rupert often says, “I don’t mean to imply any criticism of these other ‘progressive approaches’, they are perfectly valid.” He’s just being polite and diplomatic, and doesn’t want to alienate people. His whole approach exposes the dualistic seeking trajectory of most conventional spiritual and religious traditions and the methods they use, which keep people stuck, confused and distracted. He’s just too ‘nice’ to be upfront about it.
...Or he doesn't pass the judgements about them that you appear to have and that most of us do. Those paths also have a place. Otherwise they wouldn't be here. Blessings.
Rupert dedicated a significant time of his life in some of the dualistic paths. I think he sees some value in them - for some evolution is needed. In fact it could be said that some of the other paths played a key role in his own spiritual evolution.

@@viveviveka2651 what can be more ultimate than consciousness? If reality is consciousness how can you state that you can live in another consciousness? That would imply there is more than one consciousness. You are negating advaita
@Janeoffools You are right in a sense that discovering to be John Smith is way more important and should be prioritized, but King Lear is still part of the simulation, so nothing wrong in upgrading his skillset if it's supposed to happen. It will just happen a lot more effortlessly and playfully, as it's recognized that it doesn't really matter that much. Life becomes like playing a video game in demo mode in a sense, as we don't really have control anyway (but should still pretend we have it, as otherwise we end up like couch potatoes :-D)
This is blowing 'my mind' as a Course iñ Miracles.' 'student,' for 25 years. 25 is a good number. I am me, for God's sake. And me knows who it is, this moment. OMG have I 'suffered with anxiety', the more 'time' has passed, the more 'Queen Lear' I became. Thank you. And I loved the video on the 'chooser' in heaven. It's already chosen for me. I need do nothing.
But you do this too Rupert. Every time you say 'as a concession to the mind' you do EXACTLY what you say these 'other' spiritual paths do - ie you talk directly to the apparent separate self. Which in truth you do quite a lot. So that IS what you 'do here' as much as you deny it in this segment.
But is not any teacher and their specific teaching simply another appearance of some character and their story in King Lear's dream? If not, we would have to consider that Rupert and whoever is the collective “we” in the statement “that’s not what ‘we’ do here” are essentially John Smith incarnate, speaking to us, not? I’ve only passively watched these videos, so there may be some fundamental assumption I have missed. In this teaching, has the significance of the activity been established for the sake of understanding the screen/activity analogy, or the John Smith/King Lear example? Is the activity meaningless to true nature? Is the screen the only thing that really “is?” I’d like to know that context if someone would please fill me in. If so, is not following the teaching just part of a story I might dream as King Lear? If not, then I am I not left to discern which activity is meaningful to finding my true nature and which is not? This teaching does seem to require the inquisitor to accept some activity as meaningful and some as simply dream activity. Very open to further explanation of this message/communication.
The teaching is only meant to be a pointer to free you from the illusion. It is something that must be experienced, the teaching can only serve as a pointer to that experience. Once you are no longer fooled by the illusion you may find that the illusion has meaning or purpose, but for a teaching to try to explain what that meaning is would only be a story caught up in the distortions of the illusion.

Ramana Maharshi and Sri Aurobindo are among the high teachers, yet they differ when it comes to what "realization" or "transformation" is, or can be.
