very useful explanation 👍 . I hope you answer my question what's the difference between langue and parole and how it's related to competence and performance?

A quick and incomplete answer to your answer, searching on the internet would be: 'Langue (language) is the language system shared by a speech community and according to De Saussure the genuine topic of linguistics, whereas parole (speech) signifies the act of speaking in actual situations by an individual.' You can summarize is as 'langue is the set of rules for the language, while parole is the rules in action.' I have to give an exam on this book in some days... If I remember the second part of your question, I'll try to help you, though maybe you already found out the answer...

Why people writes or speak about De Saussure without the particle "de" in his Surname? It is a part of it! His surname is DE SAUSSURE, not Saussure... For Spanish speaking people, and other Latin origin languages' speakers, it is normal to understand that his surname is De Saussure, but I see many people from other languages writing or saying Saussure, as if the particle "De" wouldn't be a part of it. It's annoying!
