Good lord... I had this game as a kid but I could never finish it because that scream always made me laugh so hard I'd pass out. Years later I tried it again using an emulator (nesticle, I think), believeing "ok, I'm older now, I can handle this." Then the emulator's superbly coded sound routines chopped the scream down to about a third of a second in length... yeah, it took me a while to regain consciousness...
This was one of the first games my family got for our nes back in ‘90 or ‘91. It was hard as hell and not very good, but I was only four so I played it endlessly and loved it. It would be great to see it show up again as part of compilation on modern consoles. Sadly I think these obscure licensed games are going to be stuck in legal purgatory
My son used to watch that show every week on 🦊 affiliate WDKY in Lexington, NBC affiliate WLEX in Lexington, CBS affiliate WLKY in Louisville and then-FOX (now CW) affiliate WGRB (now WBKI) in Campbellsville, and in reruns on 🇺🇸 Network, TNN/Spike (albeit in edited form to make room for more commercials), ESPN Classic (in unedited form) and currently Charge! (also in unedited form) alongside the British version of Gladiators. 🤞 Charge! adds the 2008 version to its weekend schedule (with new, re-dubbed commentary by Mauro Ranallo and references to NBC.com eliminated)!
i remember my dad bought me this game as a gift for something or other. had never played it previously. i played the heck out of it. great game....never could get to the eliminator. the human cannon ball on level 4 was straight up impossible. that was the only stage that kept me from getting there. good times.
This seems to be based off of the 2nd half of the shows' first season. All the events from that time are present, except for some reason, "Breakthrough and Conquer".
Another difference is that Thunder is in the Gladiator lineup in place of Titan, likely due to the controversial circumstances behind the latter's departure.
@@WaterArk He allegedly chased a ref into the stands due to getting hit with a forearm twice during Human Cannonball (This was after the no changing your position rule was added due to Malibu getting concussed by Brian Hutson)
The climbing parts always scared me as a kid and is ironed into my memory,I have no idea why, I guess the tense music and thought of falling off a wall into oblivion lol
The same stock scream's also used in Goldeneye 007 (N64) when the player splatters an enemy using the tank, GunForce II (Arcade) and iirc some of the Metal Slug games. (The latter two are by the same devs)
I wish that American Gladiators would be brought back with the same format as the 1989-96 version, male host Evan Washburn, male commentators Mauro Ranallo and "The Franchise" Shane Douglas, female host Hannah Davis-Jeter, female commentators Erin Andrews and Gina Carano and referees Earl Hebner (head referee), "Big" John McCarthy and Mike Carey.
Why call the 1 event the Human "Cannonball"?!? "Human Cannonball" is where you launch yourself from the cannon! The event is swinging from a chain; Like... a Pendulum?!? The event *SHOULD* be dubbed/called "The Human Pendulum"!!
The show advertised the SNES version upfront, yet it ended up being a turd. The NES version, while by no means an amazing game, has much more faithful music, better graphics on a technically inferior console and most importantly; the gameplay is fun. That's the one they should have advertised. ;-p
its official...EVERYTHING is on youtube
Indeed, plus the things you didn't even know existed.

I haven't found some commercials I need closure about.
you have no idea 7 years ago
DAT FALLING CRY
one of my favorite samples in a NES game (for better or worse).
Sounds like the blood curdling scream from Golden Axe
Sounds like the soldiers that get killed in Command and Conquer original.
Lol same sound when you burn enemies in Metal Slug series

that dramatic shout is so hilarious.
by the way cinemassacre (avgn, or james) played this game. you should take a look :)
i dont know that movie, it must be very old. how do you get the refference
Thank you.
As a kid, I never beat the Wall. So I didn't even aware of the 2nd round.
Me too brother !!jaja
Wow... this game has an ending? Learned something new.
Would never have guessed
33:23 by far the most glorious high five in video game history
The PCM samples in this are surprisingly high quality for an NES game.
That I am, my good friend. :P
1:35 Funniest scream ever!
1:35 always made me and my dad laugh soooo hard 😂😂
I came for the scream @ 1:58, from AVGN.
*****
Even in IREM's Gunforce games.
Jeremy M
I've never played those games, but the dude who made the scream must be a celeb of some sort
+abc123 Technically its the scream @ 2:32, from AVGN
This game was developed by Incredible Technologies, who would become more famous for their series of golfing video games, "Golden Tee".
I used to watch this on TV all the time. I remember lex lugar being on there once lol!

the sound effects on this game are awesome

What if real AG was as hard as this game?
And that scream from the joust. AMAZING.
Loved this game as a kid. Could never get past The Wall though...
The scream is IN-FUCKING-TENSE
1:35 Best scream ever!
"We're gonna give you a gladiator spanking!"
Yikes!
THAT.............wall climb...........
+Burdan One of my biggest childhood struggle. Almost everything kill you and most of the time you just guess where to go. Horror :D
Dude me too, i wondered if i was the only one
Ugh! That was the worse! Especially when you had to climb diagonally!
I’ve been trying for 20+ years.
I still emulate on occasion just to overcome my demons. Lol.
The main threat in this game appears to be people falling to their death into you on bizarrely complex climbing levels.
AHHHHHUGHHHHH!
The human cannonball part always made me laugh the hardest as a child lol

@@Tubewings oh wow, what happened??
@@WaterArk He allegedly chased a ref into the stands due to getting hit with a forearm twice during Human Cannonball (This was after the no changing your position rule was added due to Malibu getting concussed by Brian Hutson)
@@BradleyBoy I need to look into Where Are They Now info on the former Gladiators, I always wondered what happened to Malibu too 😲
This is the only way I could see the Eliminator
Great gameplay dude never could pass this at all plus beating it in one straight playthrough awesome 8-)
Man if only the events in American Gladiators were this cool.
I love how the music changes afte you hit Laser in Assault lol
The climbing parts always scared me as a kid and is ironed into my memory,I have no idea why, I guess the tense music and thought of falling off a wall into oblivion lol
At least try not to laugh when someone falls off screaming... 😂
The human cannonball screams are hilarious lol

*screams*
Nice playthrough.
The gladiators scream are very funy jaja
Why does that victory pose remind me of Mega Man X?
those screams of terror on the joust
32:40 I love the 8bit fanfare that sounds like the theme
I only played this game once when I rented it from West Coast Videos (Blockbuster wasn't around yet, I think), and I never played it again.
And from the fine people who brought us Golden Tee, no less!
Not to mention Silver Strike Bowling, Time Killers and Bloodstorm
I rented this back in 1992 from Blockbuster. I could never get past the damn Wall.
This one is interesting....going up as they are chasing you ..trying to catch you.. i like that one
The final stage is hell
I owned this game and I loved the show too!!! Sweet
Could never beat the Wall....
It's impossible
If you jump onto the human cannonball rope as soon as you land on platform you get a different sound as your jumping up compared to what you hear here
This is my childhood
I came here for the screams but stayed for the screams.
Those digitized screams are so funny.
Password abaabbbb congrat american gladiators
7:11
I miss the TV show

Dam used to always play this back in the day
I used to play this game
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! shit kills me Everytime
I’m 34 in later 2018 and I still can’t beat the wall. Shame, shame I feel!!!!
DJ Tommy C. 35, early 2019, that’s why I’m here as well
Look, I am not ashamed to admit to abusing save states for the Wall. It's a goddamn mess.
27:01- me on the toilet after eating too much Taco Bell
What's all the screaming about? There's cushions down there. Don't worry.
I could NEVER get passed that level 3 wall!
More interesting than the actual show was back in the day.
No.
Wtf? Hell no, the original was fantastic.
Sounds like the borderlands elite bandit elemental death
Just found my cartrigdge cant wait to plau
I couldn't get pass the first level lol
What is this American Troniators!
ha ha ha their screaming when they fall down, priceless...
hey, lovelies. how's it goin, doods?
Lol those screams
I see they gave Blaze the shaft in this game lol
Wow remember is life
I used to REALLY want this game after seeing it in Nintendo Power. Now I'm kinda glad I never got it. 🙄
3:01
he is bring cotton but or what ?
Lace is thicc.
I have to say. You couldn’t put the events in exactly as they were and that ruined some games. They did a great job
What could the name of that scream be?
Any chance for a two player run on this?
1:36
I must know the "name" of that scream. oh god help me the searching is driving me crazy.
+Skowron Not the Wilheim scream is it?
30:15
are they throwing cheese balls at you?
They're supposed to be medicine balls

That's the one they should have advertised. ;-p
fuckin' wall.
1:35 I’m dead 😂😂😂
Sounded that way lol
"based" is stretching it here. xD
0:26
Ahhhhhhh........lol
I forgot how truly awful this game was. Nothing like the TV show. Did the people who made this game even watch the show?
Lol is that supposed to be the eliminator at 30:12??😮😮😂😂😂😂
& the balls are being throw by the gladiators?😂😂
