    Thanks for the videos, Jeff. I am a bass player and find your videos very helpful. I love that your topics are musically broad and not just centered on the sax, this broadens your subscriber base, imo. Keep up the good work.

    Im really liking your ideas and your sound on the sax!!
    You give someone, who comes from the classical side of the sax a very good and transparent explanation of jazz and therefore your videos are a great entrance to the world of jazz.
    Looking forward to those every day videos! :)

    Jeff, I'm a classical player... have always wanted to get that "jazz sound". Discovered your tone stuff and have been watching your embouchure...have been working on eliminating the covered lip but I've never been able to figure out how you jazz cats create that unique doit sound. So I've been watching and listening to the 5th note of your figure at 1:08. Can you maybe do a video about just that... how to articulate a doit rather than a clean, straight articulated note? I know where in my phrases I want to articulate to get that sound but I can't, for the life of me, make it happen. Thanks for any suggestions, and thanks for your great videos.

    Wow! Awesome explanation, giving chord tones of the arpeggio + which degree to start on and what chord it fits nicely over... super! I feel like I have something I can really work on. Jeff, would you mind adding to this by mentioning what arpeggio would fit nicely over a dominant 7th? Then, I'd have a cool II, V, I exercise to work on. Thanks, Jeff.

    • @JeffSchneiderMusic
      @JeffSchneiderMusic  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +jaykay1053 Thanks for the comment! You can try the line starting on the 6 or 13 of a V7 chord: C7 would be A Bb D F A. A slight variation that works is F# G Bb D F#, but that does change the intervals of the original line.

    Great Video Jeff.Quick question:
    Concert C(Ionian)-7,1,3,5,7 or B,C,E,G,B
    Then you state D-7,same numbers,7,1,3,5,7 or E,F,A,C,E
    If the D-7(Dorian) key is used wouldn't the same numbers(7,1,3,5,7) be C,D,F,A,C?
    Apologies for not understanding but why then did you change to 9,b3rd,5,b7th,9?

    Jeff can we also think about it in the form of the relative major? As in if you think of Fmaj7 instead of Dmin7 you get E F A C E

    Why do use an example that with the alto (that you are playing) is in key of C# which requires 7 sharps, probably the hardest scale to learn? Although the lick may be “easy”, putting it in 7 sharps makes it intimidating!

  • @cldavis33

    Hmmm, that D-7 chord is identical the major F using the original inversion you used on the first chord...confusing. So a cmaj7 + Fmaj7 is the same exact thing, just different inversions.

    • @kickflip060
      @kickflip060 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The way i see it it's the same, but depending on the chord you are playing in, it makes different kinds of tension, wich makes a rich diversity of sounds on each kind of chord

    I don't see the logic in this approach ?
    On CMaj you start on the 7th and on Dmin you start on th 9th ?

    • @tobbebergman7583

      +Mikael Andersson Good to know that I'm not alone !

    • @noahpettibon
      @noahpettibon 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because E is the 9 of Dmin and that was the starting note of the lick.

    • @noahpettibon
      @noahpettibon 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      But B is the 7 of Cmaj

    • @supersalsa9491
      @supersalsa9491 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      because Dmin is the relative minor of f major. so he's playing the notes you would play of the chord was Fmaj7. but it's just the relative minor chord so it works there too. don't think of it as starting on the 9th of the minor chord, but the major 7th of the relative major. so in terms of Fmaj7 (or Dmin, same key), he uses E (maj7) F (root) A (3rd) c (5th) E (root). make sense? I can try to explain better if it doesn't make sense
