  • I've seen a lot of van builds. I've seen a lot of pros and DIYers and I don't think I've come across someone or a company that has but this much research and development into a single van build. Troy has spent a lot of time and sleepless nights creating this van and now has made some products available to everyone out there. Van Life Tech will only get bigger and better from here moving forward.

    Some of the most advanced tech I've seen in a van. We went into a lot of detail about Van Life Tech company itself but I feel it was needed. The great thing about this is you get to hear it straight from the owners mouth and hopefully understand why Van Life Tech systems are so impressive. Some links below to also help with playlists under that too.

    It has always bugged me that Troy has been so secretive. Its amazing that you got him on camera. Does YT hand out awards for such accomplishments? You deserve one.
    That said, I am compelled to wonder, what does Troy coming out of the woods foretell? Have we reached Peak Vanlife?

    Had to come back and watch this again and leave another comment. SO impressive! Vanlifetech has become my fave company. Troy is so far ahead of everyone else in their thinking, engineering, and creativity. But I want it to have this tech and yet look like a cozy cabin. Having done projects in Cambodia, Peru and Nicaragua just cements my appreciation.

      Care to share?

    • @hugoavila6707
      @hugoavila6707 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@carlystevenson950 Sure! it is just hard to explain it with words. Also, cause I am not from the U.S., the correct terms and names of the parts I really don't know haha. BUT, I will try.
      You can call it: "The Hugo's Shower!" ( would be awesome seeing a Van review someday and people saying: this is a traditional "Hugo's shower"! haha
      The parts for this idea were based on several parts of other stuff I saw in different videos.
      Ok, it would be a Pop-up shower. The initial width would depend on whether you had a toilet or not.
      To simplify, imagine 3 things:
      1- Drawers. Do you know that kind of drawer that can support a lot of weight? like, usually people use to store a fridge, toilet, retractable table, etc (there is a second way to do it but this is easier to explain.)
      2-Retractable spices rack or food storage. Do you know those slim ones that come out of the cabinet?
      3- Usually in the bathroom, sometimes they use a "door" that is kind of a semitransparent plastic as a door, that rolls up back again after use? that one!
      Now, you put the 3 together.
      imagine you are showering on a spice rack, with the measures of your choice where the wall directly on the van side would be fixed.
      The other all would be "the rack door", which I would make with the same material and finishing of the rest of the van just for aesthetics. (those two walls would be like the back and the front of a drawer)
      The sides would be the pull-up plastic doors. You could fix one of the sides and the other would be your door to enter and leave the shower. Or you could not fix both of the sides just to decide which side you want to enter/leave.
      The top and the bottom would be the same thing, but they would be fixed on the "door".
      The bottom part would be centimeters under the "floor" of the shower. That would have a little inclination so the water would be directed to the drain located close to the van's wall.
      I would spray a Hydrophobic product on all the surfaces so water droplets would never remain on them when closed.
      I know that was a long answer, but I tried to explain in a way you could visualize the "Hugo's Shower".
      It would be extremely easy to pull it to use,. to put it back. Very spacious when using it and no using any space when stored.
      If I had a way to show it in images I would!
      and That is it!

    One of the best non-stealth build tours ever! That beast is GORGEOUS. Not huge on the modular bed situation but it makes tons of sense and harkens back to an idea I have for a super inexpensive build-out, with repurposed/recycled items, like milk crates, scrap wood and other unconventional items, all pieced together - in almost a Steampunk fashion (but not really).
    Now, to get my license back from California so I can make life happen on my own terms. I despise Reno, love the Great NorthWet and I ain't getting any younger. I wish I had started doing this kind of stuff last century when people naively kept that Chris Farley stereotype of van dwelling. 🥸🥴
    Another great vid, JT.

The house flooring is natural stone buff set in concrete becoming a continuously heated mass.. A 24-hour flywheel of heated mass... The NG fired Veissman brand boiler sips NG.. The only way to go ....

    Troy and Jarrod: You mentioned negative 22 below zero - is that Fahrenheit or Celsius? - big difference. I definitely want a 4 season van:) How about added to a Propex heating system? What is the electrical system requirement? What is the insulation system? Is the cab insulated? .....Haha - love the Down By River IPA!

    • @JarrodTocci
      @JarrodTocci  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s in Fahrenheit. There’s no need to add propex to a heat system to this. Because the fuel source is tapped into the gas or diesel tank the electrical power isn’t bad only about 5-6 amps but I believe the recommend having at least 300 amp hours of lithium batteries. Insulation would take me too long to type here but there needs to be some obviously. The better of an insulation job the better it holds heat in. It would be best to reach out to Van Life Tech directly to answer all questions

    Wouldn’t the sink and cook top be better closer together? Or is there a reason it has to be separate?

    This is a beautiful build out. Simple, clean. I encourage anyone building a van to go to your local van dealer and walk through some of the floor plans. Find one you like, and base your design off of that with minor alterations to fit your lifestyle. Too many funky van layouts; these are tried and true floor plans tested over time. You can have your Winnebago Solis or travator without paying the $150,000 price tag. Another thing, I'm pro-feminist and so I would love to see more van girls in Jarrod's videos ;-)

      Why does gender matter in any of this? How about we focus on good content, there is no gender requirement for a good van build....

      Men seem to have more of a propensity towards this stuff.
      It would be exciting to see women who may, just perhaps, have a slightly different take on creating space.

    Love the layout of this van but why not put the stove next to the sink?? Its awkwardly next to the bathroom lol. Otherwise, the layout is nice and i like his heating system

      I think he said the client forced him to put the cooktop near the rear doors, I suspect he'd have done it near the sink normally.

      Probably had something to do with the double-duty fan at the back, pulls moisture from the shower plus when cooking on the stove....

    They should have put the sink in the back of the van so it would be part of the bathroom. I’m not sure I’d want my stove on another counter top…I’d be dropping chopped veggies on the floor.

    I hope the floor is as good as advertised, because customer service is lacking. I purchased, signed their NDA and can not get a response after that. Over $12k given and can not get a return call or respond to email, does not seem right :(

      That’s a good question. I want to say liquid alone is 16-20 pounds. Everything else including wood used for subfloor, my guess is 40 pounds. They use a special light plywood that saved a lot of weight. That’s also a total guess and not sure how far off I am

    I have a question about the shower pan. How is the shower pan able to extend into the hallway and still keep its water tightness? I'm imagining in my head that there would be a seam that water can escape. Do you have more info on the extendable shower pan design?

    • @JarrodTocci
      @JarrodTocci  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That pan was custom done but if the slide part is over the Stationary part and leaves a small lip then there is no water leakage with a gasket
