I tried playing a few real games with the Celestials, and I thought my brain was going to melt. They have such wildly different gameplay compared to the other factions that I just could not figure out on my own. Looking forward to there being more guides to them once it enters early access.
Chat was too funny during this video. "Legally distinct core" as chalkboard scraping sounds floated into my ears. This 2024 RTS race sure is something.
Watch some of the Pro's play Celestial. They are crazy. You can basically build your base right in front of their natural at the very beginning of the game.
You’re not wrong, in SC2 (and somewhat WC3) you can take the outline of a unit or building and most people even a little familiar with gameplay could reasonably recognize the game the out line is from, probably the race too. It’s definitely something Frost Giant should pay attention to, and I think on some level they are. A few of their units do have that, notably the mech with the giant chain gun. Redesigns ware also some they are willing to do , take a look at the concept for the EXO redesign.
Yea nothing excites me like warcraft 3 or starcraft 1 did. Granted I was a kid but like, the music and designs of each faction were very unique, did not crossover with eachother and fired me up. Like compare the amount of spunk in a terran start in sc1 with marines and workers and the music to this game. I know it's not done but come on, it feels lifeless.
@@pigzard01 you do realize that this is the people who MADE starcraft and warcraft. that's literally their art style. that's also why starcraft and warcraft are Themselves cartoony.
@mc.builder8267 Of course, I know that, which is why I expected them to have more original designs, not just a hodge podge of units that are too on the nose on what they're copied from.
Man all of the game looks, sounds and feels so generic and derivative. Like a weird amalgamation of SC2 and WC3 but with none of their unique and iconic designs. And gameplay wise I don’t see much , if any, innovation either.
I really enjoy the mechanics, but agree that Celestial design is scattered at the moment, that said, they still have placeholder units and buildings as well, so definitely work in progress. Also, considering that one of Frost Giant's income avenues will be purchasable skins, I'm sure we'll see a lot of different looks for all three factions.
I really wanted to like Stormgate but dang if the aesthetic don't put me off significantly. It's super plasticky like Starcraft 2 was but with less of a sci-fi twist. Never enjoyed the sci-fi/fantasy fusion and it really limits each factions flavour when they're all half robot half fantasy half sci-fi. I know that's the point, but idk, none of them feel very focused.
It's intended, some of them are biological beings that integrated nanotech into themselves, others are fully mechanical constructs that the former created.
This faction is a bit too experimental for me. I'll probably play Vanguard until people figure out how they're supposed to fit into the big picture of the game. Really cool design, though.
Here is an intellectual arguments for generic upgrades- 1. It creates power fantasy - meaning that your units are better in the end of the game than in the beginning 2. It creates timing situations just like tiering works - so you invest into something that takes time and you are weaker during this period, your opponent can build more units instead of an upgrade and try to capitalize on it, but if the upgrading player defends they can get the upper hand 3. It allows for a more risk free early game - when units are weaker and they cannot destroy buildings, to an easier closure of endgame where the upgraded army can go into someone's base and wipe them out in a minute (marine or zergling upgrades) 4. It allows for different interactions in different times of the game - in BW early zerglings beat zealots, but +1 zealots 2 shot zerglings so completely turns it arround. Same is the situation with Archons - +3 archons melt zerglings and they become irrelevant in lategame ZvP. These timing can be used to delay the usefulness of a unit or completely change the interactions. 5. It allows early game units to be able to fight higher tier units if their upgrades are better - so more usefulness from early units. 6. It allows yet switches of army composition of same types of units - so every unit of your bio army is getting better, but you cannot immediately go to mech, so pushing into limitations. There are so many good arguments for generic upgrades honestly :D
Adding two more - It allows for different faction of the same type to have different endgames (Age of Empires where certain factions miss +3 on cavalery or archers, so they need a different strategy) It allows for important targets for harrass other than workers - for example - sniping an ebay which was nearly finishing a +2/3 upgrades could be more impactful than killing a command center in certain situations
With their bait and switch for their kickstarter moving the goalposts from "Finished Game" to "Finished Alpha" and trying to gaslight everyone into thinking that's the same and general scumminess around financing this I couldn't be less hyped.
