She reportedly clinched the role in 1 million Years B.C. by being the fastest sprinter of the starlets short listed - there was a lot of running from dinosaurs in the film. In the 1980s I met a guy who began work in a Hollywood photographic studio at the end of the war. He said that Carole was almost unique among the actresses in that she wanted to check the proofs of the stills herself and would have them touched up if shadows thrown by her wiry musculature were too prominent. He also said that she was most agreeable, in that she talked to him, a mere lab technician, as an equal.

Who cares with whom or how many men Carole Landis slept or didn’t sleep with in her life. It was her business and no one else’s. It’s always so easy to judge someone from idle gossip who you know absolutely nothing about or what her life was like. I wish she had auditioned for “The Outlaw” in 1943. The Chest could have well given Jane Russell a run for her money. Could you have imagined her in some of the costumes Jane had worn? If she had gotten the role Russell might have well been a no name nobody.
