Untold Stories: struggles of Venezuelans and Guyanese living at the Tuschen Sea Dam

  • In this video we highlight the struggles of the Venezuelans and Guyanese familes who are squatting on the Tuschen Sea Dam, East Bank Essequibo. Most of them started squatting there during the pandemic. They were not getting paid and could not afford to pay the rent and even got evicted. Now, they were served court paper by someone who claimed that he purchased the land. They want to get out of the sea dam but are worried about where they would go and what to do next. The families are struggling financially to get by. The Central Islamic Organization of Guyana, through brother Gulzar Namdar and the Canadian Support Group provided food packages to them.

The Venezuelans seem to be living better than Guyanese in the squatting areas, albeit in bad conditions.
I noticed you asked a lady if she had applied for a house lot and she said yes. Are house lots being given to venom Guyanese.
When did these folks just fence off land and think that they own it?

I do feel sorry for people who can't help them self. Those 2 guys that spoke in this video are health men. Many of my family and friends helped many Guyanese and charity organizations over 30 years. Personally now 62years I'm tired helping people in Guyana, 2 months ago I sent a phone and few things for his kids, a taxi driver I met 2 years ago, 3rd time helping this person out. When I lost my job from a bank, I did many other things to support my family because my husband also laid off from work. We had to help ourselves. These people want a turn key home, if they can't find work, then clean up your surroundings and plant vegetables and fruit trees. If and when they get a house lot, where $ coming from to build. B4 getting a driver's license and a car, i took bus to work 2.5 hours going and coming. Why these young women not going to school part-time to elevate themselves, I did in the evening after work 2 nights weekly. They can do domestic work. If someone really wants to do something, they will find a way to do it, even if there are things that make it hard to do. I can tell many true stories of people struggles in Canada. They should thank God they not in Ukraine, India, Sudan...
We must use wisdom in helping, not using my heart anymore in helping, using my head. In Guyana each child in school, parents gets some kind of $ from Government, not sure of the amount. Don't judge a book by its cover. My 1st job at 14, after finishing school always had 2 jobs until I had children. I can't stand lazy people. I still volunteer 2 days weekly in my community. Not to have so many children if you are struggling. Always encourage your children to volunteer, read alot and take part in some sports activities. Thanks for hearing me out. May God continue to bless you always🙏

Surprisingly when the PNac or APNU were in power nobody was asking for help with housing etc but now because it’s a new and lenient government suddenly this large amount of people coming forward requesting for help. Next Venezuelans cannot enter Guyana and take up residence and squat on government nor private land. This is my opinion and nobody else’s opinion

Guyana is short of carpenters and labourers, but I dont know it there are vacencies in that area, all the Guyanese and venezuliana need places and to live the Guyanese who object to the venezulians is that we need people to work now and the near future. this is nothing to do with the border dispute.
