    Its great that this is like a drum machine, sampler, synthesiser & sequencer all in one. You can really do some amazing modulation with this. Only thing that is really missing is having separate swing on each channel and then being able to modulate the swing parameter so that every note could be a slightly different position. Its definitely got the potential to be one of the best instruments out there and it's not too far away from it

    Perfect idea for a manual, very concise, going through every control and parameter hands on with short explanation of each is much easier to comprehend than the written manual, very good job man and thank you!

      @@cong-burn Cheers! Will have a dig after work tonight :) 3 days into exploring Strokes, and its been a total revelation. Its f**king nifty!
      Small question though; Is there a way to create "selfmade" chords that would fall into a certain scale? The chords in the Plaits engine only plays "predetermined" chords right? I would really like to play some chords in the Minor Pentatonic scale lol!

    CLAP version would be great for Bitwig
    CLAP plugins effectively become native devices, so utilities like microtuning come into play.
    Also significantly lighter on resources.

    Thank yo so much for the brilliant app. I have only one extra question: can Strokes modulate sample start point? Or can I use some another app(LFOH in AUM session for example ) for modulating this parameter?

    • @cong-burn
      @cong-burn  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      thank you ! :) yes you can modulate the start point AND the end point internally.
      there's a few interesting things that can happen with this, firstly moving the end point away from the end will make the sample loop from the start point to the end point. you can make very short loops that sound like oscillators. for longer loops strokes will try to find a zero crossing point for a smooth loop, otherwise it'll click (tho I love the sound of clicks thru a resonant filter!)
      secondly if you set your start point past your end point, the sample plays/loops in reverse.
      thirdly if the start and end points are set to the same position, the sampler doesn't play.
      so when you're firing complex modulation at the start and end points - sometimes your sound will play backwards, forwards, as a 1ms fragment that sounds like an oscillator and occasionally from start to finish like normal.
      if you really dial it in you can chop a breakbeat too

    How can I set up midi from an external controller that has a lot of faders, sliders, joysticks? I want to manage all the features of your application using midi. Is there a midi learn function or something else? Thank you in advance!

    • @cong-burn
      @cong-burn  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Mike.
      There's hundreds of parameters to map, and the interpolation sliders on the performance page can effectively work as macros where you can control all parameters for a single voice/channel with the slider - so there's lots of fun to be had with controllers.
      There's no MIDI learn on the standalone iOS app so you'll need to use a host like AUM or Ableton Live if you're on desktop. But basically everything you see on the UI (with the exception of the octogonal XY pad) can be mapped to a controller.
      Adding MIDI learn to the standalone app isn't my top priority at the minute since its handled so well by hosts, but its likely to end up in a future update one day

    As someone whos watched redmeansrecording for a long time and really wanted to get into this sort of music creation, but didnt have the money to buy physical things:
    Is the ipad program good on its own? I dont need a pc? The video seems to say yes but maybe im missing something.

    • @cong-burn
      @cong-burn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I made this so I'll skip over the question of whether its good (yes if you ask me!)
      But to answer your second question, you can run strokes as a standalone application on iPad so it doesn't require any additional software to make sounds. if you want to record your projects you'd probably want something that can record the headphone output of your iPad - there is not built in capture/recording in Strokes.
      Hope this clears things up - happy to take any other questions

    • @cong-burn
      @cong-burn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey really sorry about this ! that button sets the polarity of the modulation. basically bipolar goes from -1. to 1., while unipolar goes from 0. to 1. - I will try and think of another word to describe this behaviour and get it changed in the next patch. Thank you for the heads up
