They seem more like guardians cus engi seems like us protecting him, sniper seems ready to fight, and soldier is staring the enemy down.
If you follow the eyes Engie is looking over the kid to his (the kids) left, sniper is looking that way too as if they just spotted something to go handle while soldier is looking down toward and it feels like slightly over the kid.
Engie and sniper spotted a problem off to the left side of the screen and told soldier to baby sit which is, maybe not the best choice I'd have tasked that to sniper because he seems more calm and collected but that's just my opinion
