    Brother Knight,
    Thank you for the wisdom on the legal ramifications of performing throws which result in a person hitting their head on the ground; thus transforming you from victim to..... inmate. I find it best to always focus on controlling a bag guy as much as possible.. IF possible. Especially when deadly force (ie: slamming a persons head into the ground) is not justified.

    How come BJJ schools do not incorporate more ground and pound defense tactics in their classes to simulate what happens in the street? I was training at Extreme Couture in Vegas some years back and they started us in the guard with a guy in the guard punching and the other guy looking for submissions and escapes. The BJJ guys that were used to the sports BJJ style were getting thrashed with punches.However one learns how to protect himself, sweep, or escape to get back to their feet pretty quick when punches are raining down on your noggin. I wish that class was taught in all BJJ schools

    Thank you for this! I’m teaching my 8 yr old son jujitsu and kickboxing. We have been doing it for a sport and fitness perspective. I have been introducing some self defense concepts against potential bullies and have him work on the body lock take down. We have been drilling that every session as part of a warm up. But I am so worried that they might hurt a potential bully by dropping them on their head. Your options are much better and I will incorporate it in their sessions. Again thank you!

    Would you be able to give tips on takedown considerations, on concrete, from front? I.e. single leg or double leg takedowns, modified shoot etc. Thanks!

    • @torstenscott7571
      @torstenscott7571 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fedor Emelienko uses a "double leg scoop slam" as he calls it. He doesn't touch his knees to the ground, nor cut the corner. He stands more upright as he drives through the upper body while cupping behind the knees. I've messed with it and it works very well.

    • @robinferdous9164
      @robinferdous9164 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the advice guys, I'll try the modified shoot and work on the single

    • @robinferdous9164
      @robinferdous9164 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @IamVeryFrozen I just have a modified shoot where I change levels but I don't completely drop the lead knee onto the ground. You still get a lot of moment for the take down.

  • @stephenlleeds
    @stephenlleeds 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice! I think a lot of people get scared of doing takedowns, but there is a lot of adrenalin and you won't fill it until well after the fight is over. I would rather have a skinned knee then get the shi* beat out of me.

    Will this work on someone who knows Akido though? I showed this to a local Akido master and he told me it wouldn't work on him, and since he lived in Japan a long time ago, and has been in Martial Arts a really long time (he even has a full, long beard, and some swords behind his desk at work, mounted on the wall) I tend to believe him, especially when I asked him to show me how he would defend against it--and he said it was too dangerous to really demonstrate--To be honest, I felt like that said volumes about his credibility and compassion for not wanting to misuse his martial arts training. Integrity! Honor!

      You’re lucky he didn’t vaporize you with his ki energy on the spot. But I guess that wouldn’t have been very harmonious of him. Still...you’re lucky. And of course this wouldn’t work on a Master of Aikido or of Tai Chi.

    I was off grid for 2 weeks. This is good. But becareful with that side hold, a Judoka may apply Uchimata or Harai Goshi.
    I once was in that position, I used Harai Goshi to my opponent and pin him with uzure kesa gatame.

    • @KnightJiuJitsu

    In a street fight you are fighting for your life. Use maximum force until the person no longer moves. Its also usually more than one person. The first person you go after should be used as an example to the others. You need to make sure they dont get up again, whatever you have to do. Its them or you.

    • @KnightJiuJitsu
      @KnightJiuJitsu  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That’s horrible advice. Context dictates everything and what you’re describing is advocating murder.

    • @RicoMnc
      @RicoMnc 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The problem is the optics and perception of others, especially the LEO, judges or jury you will have to explain yourself to if you seriously injure or kill someone.
      It's counter-intuitive, but in practice for many jurisdictions where it is possible to legally carry and use a firearm for self-defense, you are more likely to be arrested or jailed for injuring or killing someone in an unarmed, hand to hand fight than if you deploy a firearm to defend yourself. The legal threshold for using deadly force, whether it is your hand, a knife/baton/?? or a handgun, is the same.
      Once you've engaged in a "street-fight" it is harder to convince others you feared for your life and deadly force was necessary to defend yourself. After all, in their eyes, you just demonstrated you are some kind of MMA badass.
      Unfortunately any fighting technique might unintentionally seriously injure or kill someone. Surviving any fall on hard, irregular surfaces or even just a solid blow to the head or other vital organ cannot be taken for granted. Deciding what circumstances are worthy of the risk is a solemn task.

    Second one is too fancy for a street situation - you never get that arm easily like how it seemed, and also that left elbow could easily blow up his nose once their on the floor once the other guy has his both arms trapped. First one effective - although I would go for a choke control if I’m coming from the back or if I get the Guy’s back like that.

    • @KnightJiuJitsu
      @KnightJiuJitsu  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you train these then they are effective and your timing gets better. Nothing works well with a lack of training. But please don’t criticize something you don’t understand and haven’t sufficiently been taught or trained.

      My point is anything can happen in a fight and usually it means one person is trying to hurt the other one. You’re sending a message to people who don’t know any better that a fight is like a sport . And that can get someone killed.

    I love bjj, but never understood why takedowns were not focused on enough. It's a ground art, so you gotta get it there. I like a wrestle-jitsu style and to me the guard is an insurance policy just in case. Fantastic video.

    • @KnightJiuJitsu
      @KnightJiuJitsu  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think takedowns have been less and less emphasized because they aren’t terribly important in competition under most BJJ rulesets, especially IBJJF. Which is a shame. I agree that adding in more wrestling conventions for takedowns enhances it. Thanks for the comment!
