To a person about to go into season 1 blind, seeing what type of person Thorfinn grew up to be would be INSANELY MASSIVE SPOILERS. If it does get a season I can't wait to be censored by CR again for commenting that the "aunt" (really uncle) was a good depiction of a decent "trans" person (might just be a crossdresser though) with them being respectful by making sure his niece tells her friends that are spending the night that he's actual male in case that makes them uncomfortable. And yeah it was a good show.
Speaking of Studio Orange, they really need to make another season of "Land of the Lustrous". It's such a great show but the season ends with more questions than answers.
ahhh I'm so glad you got to watch this, I was really hoping you would react to it! I hope that when you finish Vinland you go back and watch the end of the video cause his writing for vinland s2 was really insanely well done. If your looking to watch more of gigguks vids I recommend going back and watching some of his older Best of Anime videos. They can be really helpful in finding potential anime to watch that you might have missed, and it's interesting to see how anime progressed through the years. You also can watch his season in a nutshell videos. They're fun and briefly go over the current season of anime!
I like to think I have a similar type of ranking to Gigguk, I just like good shows regardless of genre. Pretty sure the rankings here are an order, and it would make sense when you look at the quality of the anime in the top 5. Also Pluto is an absolute masterpiece and deserved more attention, but Netflix released all episodes at once and it hurt the hype and discussion. Can't wait to see you get to Vinland Saga, it truly is an incredible journey.
I also didn't like the end of AOT, not because it's not happy, I agree with that, but because of the way it was done, so I didn't even watch your reaction to it At the same time, AOT as a whole is number 1 in my personal list. And I completely agree with Giguk, the second season of Vinland Saga is the best thing that happened in 2023, Frieren is also in second place for me
I love watching Gigguk videos and it's surprising to see you watching another of his videos. The list might be random but his favorite genres according to him are isekai (he had referred to himself as an isekai trash) and he enjoys anime with incest ships lol. His videos are fun cause as you said, they go from funny, to serious, to sometimes sad and it gets your attention from start to finish. Too bad you have to skip shows you're planning to or are already watching. I watch his videos about shows I never intend to check out and they're all pretty fun to watch anyways. Some of the dubbed parts in his videos are official but a lot are parodies although they're easy to spot cause the parodies sound like jokes/memes. I think he's got a lot of editors so it's either his choice or theirs to use dub but I remember his past videos using subs. Manga-ka is just the Japanese term for manga artist, by the way. Also, Gigguk had made an Oshi no Ko video before the anime came out and even if it was spoiler-y, it got me interested in watching the anime and didn't ruin my watching of it even though I knew the twists of the first episode.
I would love to see you check out his best of 2022 video, in my opinion that’s one of the best scripted videos I have ever seen, it makes my teary eyed everytime I watch it! Loved this!
Great video and great choice to skip spoilers😂. I was surprised that Gigguk didn’t put Frieren #1, I think he told even before Frieren came it will be so good
Authors be like: "The point of my story is war is bad". Fans of the work be like: "Uh actually war is good, you just need to be really good at killing." It's an offshoot of Mecha stories. Mecha Authors be like: "The point of my story is war is bad". Fans of mecha series: "PEW PEW GIANT ROBOTS, LET'S START WARS SO WE CAN CONVINCE PEOPLE TO FUND GIANT ROBOTS IRL PEW PEW PEW!"
Is fine, but I feel it's too ordinary for an anime like AOT, because when I read the manga a few chapters before the end, I predicted the ending would be like this. But I thought it was too normal to be aot, because I could just guess it, and it turned out that was actually the ending
aot ending is bad because it was predictable and we know aot is great because it was unpredictable show that what made it great if the ending is not predictable aot would be the GOAT of anime but it was all disappointment lol
I was waiting to see if Bungou Stray Dogs made the list, because I *just* saw a ranking (from anime corner) where it actually won anime of the year 2023 by getting like 10% of the 69k votes, but it's not on the list at all lol
Eh I thought it was the opposite? The show clearly ends quite dark with eren dying, and the titan problem still existing. I think because the problem still exist they think it is bad because everything eren did was for nothing. But clearly that is how it works in real life, sometimes you do something and it does not end in your favor.
This is 100% one of the reasons. I remember reading it monthly as it was ending and that was one of the main talking points, if not THE main talking point.
31:15 a person or a group that makes the serialization of the Manga (Japanese comic) and the author or team that made it are generally called mangaka's. later on some of the "Manga's" may be adopted to the anime form, that you are currently watching.
Enjoyed the vid, though i def recommend coming back once you have finished the animes you skipped here and check out what he had to say about them after. They worth coming back for and doing it all at once later prolly makes the most since vid wise.
Gigguk could sell you tap water, and convince you it's ultra expensive top class water, only for it to actually be tap water, but with a rich flavor you would have never expected or appreciated from any tap water you ever drank in your entire life
I watched gigguks video way more times than I should have just because of what he says for Frieren and Vinland Saga, once you watch it go back and watch that little bit pleeeease, it’s just so beautiful 🥹
11:00 if the option is available, I always watch dubbed in my language (Brazilian Portuguese). I really like how professional the final result comes out, most of the time 😁
Bro, at 25:02 I didn't realize he put a poster of Mo Dao Zu Shi in the video, I wonder if he actualy watched it or just put whatever popular chinese show appeared first on the internet
1 Frieren 2 The Dangers in my Heart 3 Vinland Saga 4 Oshi no Ko 5 JJK 6 Mushoku Tensei its really hard to put them in order so i done it for which series made me more exited when the episodes would drop:)
i really agree with this list, i love mushoku but because of that i specifically held off and waited until it was over instead of watchign it weekly, however shows like JJK are more enjoyable to see when it drops
My top 5 for this year have to be: 1. Vinland Saga, 2. Oshi No Ko, 3. My Happy Marriage, 4. Heaven's Official Blessing and 5. Skip and Loafer. :) I'm counting Frieren for 2024 as it's not finished yet, otherwise that would be up there.
In defense of "KamiKatsu" I'm pretty sure the CGI monsters look like that on purpose. They are "strange beasts" so they look strange and there are other spoilery things that make me believe this to be correct.
no, the budget on that show was just near-non-existent. It had multiple delays, had questionable animation, and adapted all the manga content at the time. And you bet I loved the fuck out of it.
Haven't watched a lot of 2023 anime, I don't quite watch new things, but my top would be like this: 1. Frieren 2. Kaguya-sama movie 3. Heveanly Delusion 4. Oshi no Ko 5. Phoenix: Eden17 6. The Vexations of a Shut-In Vampire Princess
I'm also gonna watch tomorrow "Gold Kingdom and Water Kingdom" since the translation finally came out. And obviously I plan checking out a lot of other titles at some point, probably most exicted for Skip and Loafer, seems similar to Kimi ni Todoke which I like a lot.
The ending for AOT, like gigguk said, did what it needed to do. However, it makes perfect sense that it's ranked No. 8 at Gigguk's list as it was just merely one long episode rather than a series.
If we're talking about 2023 I have to agree with Gigguk and say that my favourite anime was season 2 of Vinland Saga, although I'm a huge fan of Attack on Titan too. Don't worry though, both seasons are really great in their own ways.
16:51 I wish I could watch The Eminence in Shadow, but it is not available in any streaming service over here. I may have to rely on VPN, if the service that may have it does not block VPNs 😝
27:46 highly HIGHLY recommend Pluto Luke. It’s incredible. 28:42 yes Luke, that is Pluto, based on the Astro Boy story The Greatest Robot on Earth. 30:39 the bit with George Bush is referencing a war that occurs in the series that is very obviously based on the United States invasion of Iraq in 2003: just six months before the manga began.
Quite honestly, I think Skip and Loafer was one of my favorites from last year. I feel like I suffered from a little bit of anime fatigue last year. But Skip and Loafer was one of the shows that I looked forward to every single week. I watched the opening and ending, and after every episode, I felt happy.
A mangaka is someone who make manga, then for promoting the manga, studio make anime. You can have original anime that doesn’t came from a manga but in general it came to promote the original support (manga). Hajime isayama make aot manga, then studio make the anime to promote it with some supervision of the mangaka.
For a guy who sometimes wears a Thor's Hammer necklace... The fact you have taken this long to watch Vinland Saga is criminal. You should question your community who recommend/vote on anime for you when they have not pushed this OBVIOUS choice for YOU.
Haven't finished Frieren yet, but so far it reminds me of the game Lost Odyssey. Main character has lived hundreds of years and through his journey he recalls memories of his past. Granted most of those past memories are absolute tragedy, but it is still a very amazing game.
Talking about only New Titles that came out in 2023 (not returning titles like Vinland or Mushoku Tensei) then *FRIEREN* is definitely the Best 🛐 My personal favourite New Title of 2023 tho would probably be either *PLUTO* (cuz i loved the manga & the adaptation was nearly perfect) or *SKIP AND LOAFER* (Slice of Life at it's Finest, didn't knew we got so many great Seinen Romance/SOL hidden gems)
Information from episode 1 is not considered a spoiler. Also, footage without context is not considered a spoiler, it's like watching a trailer. That's why people said that there were no spoilers in the video PS. If you watched number 1, you would know that the places in the list are arranged in order
Watching what gigguk said about vinland saga s2 would have been MASSIVE spoilers to someone just about to watch season 1. I can't believe people actually said that
It is worth mentioning that Gigguk's list is not ranked. It is just a list. Likely made to keep people invested through the video with things like AoT in the middle.
2023 actually was a fantastic year for anime. I'd have to say my top 10 (impossible for me to give a top 5, with way too many fun shows this year) in no particular order would be Dead Mount Death Play, Hell's Paradise, The Eminence in Shadow, Akiba Maid War, Frieren, My Daughter Left the Nest and Became an A-Rank Adventurer, Vermeil in Gold, Call of the Night, The Kingdom of Ruin and Undead Murder Farce. Even that list was extremely hard to cut down. I had to cut Birdie Wing, Ron Kamonohashi's Forbidden Deductions, The Apothecary Diaries and quite a few others from the list since they'd fit a top 20 but not top 10.
Vinland Saga definitely belongs in the #1 spot. It is easily one of my favorite shows of all time. I have never felt about an anime the way I do about Vinland Saga. Not even AoT made me feel that way, and I LOVE Attack on Titan. I have watched both seasons at least three times right after season 2 ended. Even after not watching it again since, I still think about it A LOT. Heck, after watching this video...I think I'll go watch Vinland Saga again lol. My Top 5: Vinland Saga Apothecary Diaries Frieren Attack on Titan Skip and Loafer (I haven't started JJK yet, sorry lol)
Yoo Altered Carbon mentioned, 100% agree. S1 was peak modern true sci-fi mind show, and S2 is like some cheap Bollywood knockoff. I don't even know where they were going with that, S1 set up such an interesting world and characters and S2 literally cast it all aside. Watched S1 3 times now, I can't even get myself to finish S2.
Yeah, such a shame, season 1 was absolutely awesome! I will always be sad we didn't get more. Karl Urban did a sci-fi show as well that was only one season, I don't remember the name but it was pretty great too.
@@GOTGames True, there are a fair amount of decent shows out there that never got to truly take off. Some of the Love-Death-Robots series is also great
Honestly, Houseki no Kuni (AKA Land of the Lustrous) and Beastars are both amazing anime to react to. The animation and the character writing and world-building are fantastic!
vinland saga at #1 is absolutely deserved, cant wait to see you watch it. to sum the reason for it being there up, one moment in season 2 changed the lives of a ton of people around the world. my top 5 anime of 2023 would have to be: (based on the impact they left me and how much i enjoyed them, other shows like aot and heavenly delusion would be on here if it werent for how much i loved these shows) 1. The dangers in my heart, this show stuck with me through all the gigantic shows that released this year, and unrelated to this score has gotten even better with season 2 releasing now. 2. Gundam: The Witch from mercury season 2: didnt have an amazing ending but this second season was the closest i've gotten to that feeling of watching re:zero episodes weekly that i havent had since 3 years ago. 3. The 100 girlfriends who really really really love you: just like number 2, this reminded me of watching gintama for the first time, the humor, the characters, the chemistry between them, the absolutely ridiculous setting, and the best main character to ever grace their respective genres. never before have i thought a harem anime could be a genuinely good show before this. 4. Dr. stone season 3: if i have to wait another week for season 4 i'm gonna lose it. 5. vinland saga season 2: i have to put this here. it didnt leave as big a mark on me as a viewer, but its message got to me as a person, i think anyone who watched this season to the end will agree that this season was life-changing. i know this is on number 5 but this is the best out of all of these. i wish i could've put pokemon on here since it finished ash's saga after 25 years but not only did most of the whole final arc already release last year and i just caught up late, the show isnt so good or life changing to put up here. I dont feel like a lot of shows really stuck with me this year, so the top 3 are just that special for staying with me through my sporadic year of watching too many Gundam series and playing way too many of the Yakuza games. lemme just do some honorable mentions though: obviously there's AOT and heavenly delusion, but Skip and loafer was definitely a big one, it somehow lost to The dangers in my heart despite having an opening by my favorite artist, and still having that opening get beaten by that of the dangers in my heart. Oh and of course Zom 100 was great, especially that first episode blew me away, i'd been interested since i first watched a gigguk video on the manga one or two years back, and it fully surpassed any expectation i had. i'll just post this on the patreon as well cause this is way too long a message to limit to just the youtube video.
Can also call this vid "man finds out AoT isn't the greatest thing out" lol. But as always, great vid, always good to be open to different genres, cause there is a ton of fantastic series being missed out on if you only go for the "over-popular shounen"
@@Ash_Wen-licompitition doesn't mean u are going to deny the fact Aot is one of the greatest anime of all time so vinland saga and Full metal Alchemist brotherhood but ppl have different tast that's other thing if it's not ur cup of tea
Naoki urusawa is one of the greatest mangaka of all time. People rate 2 of his works, monster and 20th century boys as some of the best pieces of fiction ever. Pluto is absolutely fantastic
I think the list is ordered the way it is because hes ranking it on what came out in that year alone, like attack on titan final episode was lower rank, but his opinion on the whole show would probably be top 3 if that makes sense
I hope you react to more Gigguk videos in the future. They are some of the best out there . Here’s my top 30 of 2023 since I couldn’t limit it enough. There’s a lot I still haven’t seen like Pluto and The Dangers in my Heart though: 30. Heavenly Delusion 29. Hell’s Paradise 28. My Love Story With Yamada-kun at Lv999 27. Migi and Dali 26.
Same.
Speaking of Studio Orange, they really need to make another season of "Land of the Lustrous". It's such a great show but the season ends with more questions than answers.
I just recently watched it and I was so sad to find out there was no season 2 bcs it's just such an intriguing and different then your ussual anime.
Back when 2 ended they didn’t have enough source material to make more, not sure how fast the manga releases.
As a manga reader Land of the Lustrous goes to strange and amazing places. Peak storytelling with insane visuals. I need to have a new season.
The manga is almost finished so maybe when Studio Orange is finished Beastars they'll release another season of Land of the Lustrous after
@@Ash_Wen-li That would be nice.
Luke, I've been watching you since the beginning of your anime journey. Don't skip anything, you'll forget what you saw in a couple minutes 😂
😂
ahhh I'm so glad you got to watch this, I was really hoping you would react to it!
So after you’ve watched enough anime you either find the only genre you enjoy or you seek the best of every genre of anime
Mangaka means An author of a manga
to answer your question, a "mangaka" means the author of a manga. That's it.
Mangaka = Manga Author
I also didn't like the end of AOT, not because it's not happy, I agree with that, but because of the way it was done, so I didn't even watch your reaction to it
At the same time, AOT as a whole is number 1 in my personal list.
And I completely agree with Giguk, the second season of Vinland Saga is the best thing that happened in 2023, Frieren is also in second place for me
oh wow we finally get this kind of Gigguk videos lol
28:39 Pluto is an Homage from Urusawa to Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy. It is brand-new anime, released in 2023 by Netflix, indeed
20:57 The only episodes that aired on 2023 for Attack on Titan were the last two special episodes. This ranking takes that into account.
My Top 5 Anime of 2023
1. The Dangers in My Heart S1
2. Oshi no Ko
3. Frieren
4. The Apothecary Diaries
5. My Happy Marriage
5. AOT final parts
4. Apothecary Diary (part1)
3. Frieren (part1)
2. JJK s2
1. Vinland Saga s2
I was surprised that Gigguk didn’t put Frieren #1, I think he told even before Frieren came it will be so good
Actually the people who were unhappy with the aot ending thought it was too happy.
@@Shinius ?
Is fine, but I feel it's too ordinary for an anime like AOT, because when I read the manga a few chapters before the end, I predicted the ending would be like this.
But I thought it was too normal to be aot, because I could just guess it, and it turned out that was actually the ending
@@sultanprawiro3069 I guess it was just kind of cliche
aot ending is bad because it was predictable and we know aot is great because it was unpredictable show that what made it great if the ending is not predictable aot would be the GOAT of anime but it was all disappointment lol
Having watched Vinland saga so far and Frieren, I can respect his top 2. It's very close.
I think it would be cool if you watched his previous best of the year videos (2022, 2021, 2020, etc.)
I was waiting to see if Bungou Stray Dogs made the list, because I *just* saw a ranking (from anime corner) where it actually won anime of the year 2023 by getting like 10% of the 69k votes, but it's not on the list at all lol
It's really really underrated especially after s4 it peaked
Definitely in my top 5 last year
belived me, always play safe with things you think could have spoilers! ALWAYS
The people who don't like Attack on Titan think the ending was too happy. They wanted it to be more brutal and darker.
I remember reading it monthly as it was ending and that was one of the main talking points, if not THE main talking point.
nah because the ending is too predictable i bet all that dont like AOT are the real fans of AOT
@@DemiCape Rewatch the ending and see how many people killed off only to get revived. That's fucking Disney level writing
31:15 a person or a group that makes the serialization of the Manga (Japanese comic) and the author or team that made it are generally called mangaka's. later on some of the "Manga's" may be adopted to the anime form, that you are currently watching.
This is a reaction I loooooove to see it.
I really like how professional the final result comes out, most of the time 😁
My man, you need to watch Pluto, that show is sooooooo good, trust me. That show and Frieren were on my top 2 of my favs of 2023
Vinland Saga really is one of the finest pieces of literature I've had the pleasure to read. It's fantastic.
You did the right thing bro, don't let spoilers get to you cuz the experience is what makes it
Bro, at 25:02 I didn't realize he put a poster of Mo Dao Zu Shi in the video, I wonder if he actualy watched it or just put whatever popular chinese show appeared first on the internet
gigguk has seen some chinese animated shows so he mightve, i personnaly havent heard of it but i'd say he probably knows what hes putting in the video
I can't believe I watched this at 3AM and still managed to reach the end of this video
My top 5:
Vinland Saga
Pluto
Frieren
Apothecary Diaries
Heavenly Delusion
the Virgin I have no enemies vs the Chad killdozer enjoyer
Gigguk's favorite genre is Isekai by miles ahahah
👀👀
Right, Garnt voice a character in Mashle. Pluto was great!!
1 Frieren
2 The Dangers in my Heart
3 Vinland Saga
4 Oshi no Ko
5 JJK
6 Mushoku Tensei
its really hard to put them in order so i done it for which series made me more exited when the episodes would drop:)
i really agree with this list, i love mushoku but because of that i specifically held off and waited until it was over instead of watchign it weekly, however shows like JJK are more enjoyable to see when it drops
Haven't watched a lot of 2023 anime, I don't quite watch new things, but my top would be like this:
1. Frieren
2. Kaguya-sama movie
3. Heveanly Delusion
4. Oshi no Ko
5. Phoenix: Eden17
8 at Gigguk's list as it was just merely one long episode rather than a series.
btw a lot of content creators use dubs for their videos so they dont need subtitles. it doesn't necessarily mean they watch the dub
this is in fact the official ranking of his favorite anime in 2023
If we're talking about 2023 I have to agree with Gigguk and say that my favourite anime was season 2 of Vinland Saga, although I'm a huge fan of Attack on Titan too. Don't worry though, both seasons are really great in their own ways.
yeah i love both as well
16:51 I wish I could watch The Eminence in Shadow, but it is not available in any streaming service over here. I may have to rely on VPN, if the service that may have it does not block VPNs 😝
i really hope you watch more of gigguk's videos it will help be in the loop of what happens each anime season in community
Luke saying he plans on watching s2 of Eminence, then never watching it is going to be one of the saddest villain moments of all time
Aw, you missed the end of this video where he says we all have no enemies :(
Thanks for noticing altered carbon. And yes, the first season was amazing
A mangaka is someone who make manga, then for promoting the manga, studio make anime. You can have original anime that doesn’t came from a manga but in general it came to promote the original support (manga). Hajime isayama make aot manga, then studio make the anime to promote it with some supervision of the mangaka.
this aged like fine wine
For a guy who sometimes wears a Thor's Hammer necklace... The fact you have taken this long to watch Vinland Saga is criminal. You should question your community who recommend/vote on anime for you when they have not pushed this OBVIOUS choice for YOU.
Haven't finished Frieren yet, but so far it reminds me of the game Lost Odyssey. Main character has lived hundreds of years and through his journey he recalls memories of his past. Granted most of those past memories are absolute tragedy, but it is still a very amazing game.
Of course its in order!
This IS his order of HIS favourite anime for that year. Yes, he is overtly in love with Vinland Saga
And We have our list 😊
Talking about only New Titles that came out in 2023 (not returning titles like Vinland or Mushoku Tensei) then *FRIEREN* is definitely the Best 🛐
My personal favourite New Title of 2023 tho would probably be either *PLUTO* (cuz i loved the manga & the adaptation was nearly perfect) or *SKIP AND LOAFER* (Slice of Life at it's Finest, didn't knew we got so many great Seinen Romance/SOL hidden gems)
Information from episode 1 is not considered a spoiler. Also, footage without context is not considered a spoiler, it's like watching a trailer. That's why people said that there were no spoilers in the video
PS.
Mangaka is just the term for a manga author....pretty much
apothecary diaries is a straight fire show
2023 actually was a fantastic year for anime.
My Top 5:
Vinland Saga
Apothecary Diaries
Frieren
Attack on Titan
Skip and Loafer
(I haven't started JJK yet, sorry lol)
The anime list is in order, and yes, he consumes and enjoys a lot of different styles of anime.
Cowboy bebop has a legendary soundtrack. Worth a gander on that premise alone.
vinland saga at #1 is absolutely deserved, cant wait to see you watch it. to sum the reason for it being there up, one moment in season 2 changed the lives of a ton of people around the world.
my top 5 anime of 2023 would have to be:
(based on the impact they left me and how much i enjoyed them, other shows like aot and heavenly delusion would be on here if it werent for how much i loved these shows)
I dont feel like a lot of shows really stuck with me this year, so the top 3 are just that special for staying with me through my sporadic year of watching too many Gundam series and playing way too many of the Yakuza games.
lemme just do some honorable mentions though:
obviously there's AOT and heavenly delusion, but Skip and loafer was definitely a big one, it somehow lost to The dangers in my heart despite having an opening by my favorite artist, and still having that opening get beaten by that of the dangers in my heart.
I fully plan to watch Frieren, I'm just waiting for it to finish airing. So, I'll probably start watching it sometime in April
Enjoy the journey!
Can also call this vid "man finds out AoT isn't the greatest thing out" lol. But as always, great vid, always good to be open to different genres, cause there is a ton of fantastic series being missed out on if you only go for the "over-popular shounen"
AoT fans are like Breaking Bad fans. They act like their show is unrivalled in it's medium and has absolutely no competition
@@Ash_Wen-licompitition doesn't mean u are going to deny the fact Aot is one of the greatest anime of all time so vinland saga and Full metal Alchemist brotherhood but ppl have different tast that's other thing if it's not ur cup of tea
Gigguk's genre for rankings is "Damn Good"
I think most people that disliked the aot ending thought it was TOO happy, not the opposite.
Naoki urusawa is one of the greatest mangaka of all time. People rate 2 of his works, monster and 20th century boys as some of the best pieces of fiction ever. Pluto is absolutely fantastic
Gigguk liked the ending from aot but it was only 2 long episode and the Other anime had a hole season some had 2 so 12-25 episodes
Cowboy Bebop is a must watch. The OST is phenomenal.
There’s a lot I still haven’t seen like Pluto and The Dangers in my Heart though:

Zom 100 isn't Mappa but they take a shot of them in the first episode by making the office look just like Mappa's office.
