    Citroen should make you two brand ambassadors. No one has given a better impression of the car than you two. Perhaps they can give you rolling prototypes that can feature the luggage rack and soft top with improved fans.

      When Fiat sell he Topolino with the baggage rack on the back maybe Citroen will offer that with the Ami. Then maybe the 2nd market will offer an alternative to the baggage rack - a rack for a spare wheel on the back. Think this would look really cool and retro.

    If i was living in Italy i`d get the Fiat. Living in France i`d probably stick with the Citroen. I have a theory that French people are friendlier to foreigners with French cars.

      Same in Portugal. 50 units were allocated to be sold here, and ALL of them sold within a couple of hours. But the buggy has the same issue as the Doce Vita: paying 2.000€ MORE, and not getting any doors! I'd wait for a kit to be developed that trades out the glass roof on the Ami for a roll-top. Awesome video mate. The Fiat looks absolutely stunning. They definitely have great taste when it comes to design in comparison to Citroen. However, for me it would be an absolute no-go if the price was higher than the AMI. In 2011 I bought a new Toyota Yaris for 12 700EUR on sale. And it becomes kind of ridiculous when these mobility vehicles reach the 10 000EUR mark. I think they should be the half way mark between a really cheap car and a cargo e-bike. Around 6000-7000EUR seem like a reasonable price.

    Great video Tim and not surprised that Fiat have launched their own. As nice as it is, many of the changes like the colour binnacle hood could be 3D printed by yourselves or created fairly easily. The boot rack could be manufactured fairly easily I would imagine and you could always have Elton wrapped in a sage green wrap and fit some nice white and chrome wheel trims. The customisation options are extensive! I would save the money and do a few things to Elton instead as he’s still a fab little thing.

      I would wait at least one good year after the launch of the Topolino. So the first customers will discover all the problems of the Fiat for you. Buy if you want after that Fiat has corrected the burning controllers, the failing batteries, the software glitches, we can imagine a lot of things which can go wrong.
      Never buy a freshly launched quadricycle, specially when it would attain a price around 10000€, the price of a good used small car with airbags, air conditioning, ABS, automatic transmission and so on. The same attitude is valuable for all new products; computers, smartphones, new versions of Windows or of the overrated Apple, etc... I do not see anything striking on the Topolino.
      The problem of hatch or vent on the roof is pretty easy to solve in my opinion if you keep it small enough to fit it on the original plastic roof. There are many camper hatches or roof vents which are pretty easy to install. A Livpow RV Roof Vent costs 60 bucks, 70 with a 12V fan...The installation on the plastic (Lexan? Plexiglass?) transparent panel of the Ami needs very little tooling and its a breeze for a pro or at least knowledgeable guy.
      The Ami is very poorly designed about ventilation, I saw that immediately when I tried it. I'll wait the Chinese electric mini cars which are vastly superior in quality.

    Glad to see someone has taken up my idea of a backpack for the Ami. There is a certain type of rear bike rack available for cars which don't have a hitch. It consists of two thib straps that go inside the top of your hatch and hook on the inside. I drove all the way to Spain with it. Not a stir. The two bars that normally take the bike can be used to support all kinds of canvas luggage carriers. Up to about 50 lbs

    Hi Lads from Spain. OK so it's perhaps a little trendier but the open top is not good for you, Tim, and your big C problem. A good modification for the Ami would be lift out windows in the doors so that you could get a better air-flow. The rope sides are a seriously bad idea since they offer absolutely no protection whatsoever - imagine doing the rollover test on the Monte Carlo circuit with just ropes instead of doors! Keep safe and stay happy.

    Regarding the problems of Heat in the AMI, I used to have a Honda 600, I loved that car, it never was too hot due to very simple opening & closing flap each side, down by my feet with fins incorperated into a grill that caught the breeze. I would have thought something similar could be fitted in your car. So as you drove along air would be forced inwards through the grill & out through the windows. no moving parts or noise. the only thing would be finding a suitable grill that was able to be shut & watertight when closed. Back in around 1967 my second ever car was a 1953 Fiat 500C Topolino. It was left hand drive in turgid green with beige interior. The Topolino was unique but was also a potential death trap. It had a 500cc OHV aluminium block petrol engine and uniquely the front belt drove a shaft that ran through the cam cover and turned a fan at the rear of the cover. This cooled the radiator which was built at the rear of the engine, not in front. The top of the rad. had a shutter device and a large bore pipe on each side ran into the car. If the shutter was opened warm air from the top of the rad was directed though the tubes to warm the car interior. In theory fine but if the engine leaked oil back onto the rad you got oil fumes in the car. The most dangerous aspect though was that the petrol tank was built into the bulkhead between engine bay and car interior. To fill the tank you had to open the bonnet and if you looked under the dashboard you could see half of the fuel tank under there. You can imagine a frontal collision. The engine gets pushed backwards into the rad and into the petrol tank and BOOM!! Another failing was that the propshaft universal joint was a compressed thick cotton disk impregnated with some form of semi plastic to help hold it together. Mine shredded itself one Sunday in the depths of the Chilterns, leaving me with no drive at all. However it was an intriguing little car with all sorts of idiosyncrasies. Slow, noisy as I couldn't find a replacement exhaust, but with the hood right down on a sunny day it was a joy. The estate version had the wood finish you were thinking of and was called the Belvedere. And the 500B and 500C must win the prize for the ugliest car ever built. Not to be confused with the later rear engined air cooled 500D.

Plus, of course, many people will be commenting "Cor! Look at the rack on that!"
    It does surprise me that the Fiat version with doors hasn't got the roll up sun roof as that was almost a trademark of the original Topolino and the 500 that replaced it as it is built on the same platform, cutting the hole for it shouldn't be a problem unless they thought that in wetter climates a solid top will keep the weather out more effectively.

    What I found interesting was...wasn't one of the points of the Ami the number of body panels, as in the front and back were identical except for the light colour to cut down on costs and make replacing easier? Fiat have obviously made the rear lights look more 'normal' which makes it look a lot more car like for lack of a better description and I think it does look nicer, but does that go against one of the ideas of the platform?

    Believe me it's not funny having no doors or windows when it's cold or raining. We have a Twizy and live in Cyprus but ours has optional doors and after market windows from South Korea fitted, otherwise we would have to decommission it and find somewhere to store it during our short winter. If you go for a no door version of the Fiat you could always splash out on a set of thermals and a pacamac each. Maybe you could look into having the glass part of Elton's roof removed and a roll back cover like on the Fiat fitted,, it doesn't look very waterproof though.

    If you want something different to the Ami then there is a company in the Netherlands who is about to make a car (quadracycle) called Squad.
    It has a range of 50km or 100km plus it comes with a solar panel on the roof so you can get a few more km each day (they say 20-30km extra). It also has more room for luggage, or junk.
    And it's got all the style and elegance that the Netherlands is known for (you'll see what I mean if you Google it).
    There is a problem that when I lived in Amsterdam I use to mispronounce "the Netherlands" as "the Neanderthals", my Dutch friends always found that so funny.

    Tim. How about getting your driving licence? A lot more choice of cars then - a Smart ForTwo like mine would be perfect for the hot summer days - aircon (and heated seats for the winter). Interestingly, in Spain you rarely see convertibles, as it is too hot to have the roof down. Test drive a Fiat to check out whether it is cooler. However, keep Elton - he is part of the family.

      @MeandMonAmi  ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @nspires1
    @nspires1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Agree! I love the color and styling, and have always wished the Ami came in different colors, (pigments embedded into the plastic, not wrapped or painted on afterwards).
    I love having the buttons on the dash. The buttons beside my “butt” can be really hard to find or operate, especially since the pillow I use gets in the way (not to mention the butt itself). 😜

I love the luggage rack, and I too am hoping that someone will find a way to add one to the Ami. I don’t know how “secure” a suitcase would be for protecting valuables if left on the vehicle, but hopefully one could just use the rack to transport different things.
    What I don’t love is paying about 2,000€ MORE than the Ami, and not getting any doors. That’s a LOT to pay for “style”. Just like the new Microlino, which starts at 17.700€ (the price of TWO Amis), there comes a point where you’re better off just buying a good used car.
    I personally need doors. Not just for securing it overnight, but even if you only use it to go to the beach, you’d still have to take everything out of the “car” and carry it down to the sand with you each time, or risk losing it. My other concern would be the charge chord. If it’s located in the door jam, how do you keep it from getting wet without doors to close and protect it?
    Did you notice where they stored it in the Dolce Vita?

    I’m guessing someone will also come up with a kit to allow the Ami’s glass roof to be removed, and replaced with a roll top. But I would still be concerned about water seepage in the winter, or safety should she end up upside down, or securing my belongings should someone decide to slice the canvas and enter.
    To me, the Ami is the “People’s Car” of electric Urban mobility (like the VW Bug before it). Part of the genius of it was Citroën figuring out how to keep the price as low as possible in order to appeal to the greatest number of people. In essence, trading style for practicality.
    I can live with that just fine, and don't see myself trading my Ami in anytime soon. (But then, I don't live where it ever gets too hot).

    • @MeandMonAmi

    🚙What a great video...! I can see the appeal for the Topolino, it's really cute, but I have to say that I would be freaked out driving on those mountain roads with no doors and just a rope! 😟Especially if it rained then you would be soaked! The 'cuteness' of the Topolino and it's luggage thingy & shower feature does not outway for me the no door feature! Would having a sunroof installed for air flow be too much of a hassle? Or would that be worse having the sun beating down all day? You can have those sunscreens installed on sky roofs too! Plus the worry of having to lug everything out of the car everytime you went somewhere or left it for the night in your driveway, makes it more of a nuisance to me. I think the Topo is a great little vehicle for fair weather daytrips to the beach, but for longer excursions it doesn't tick the boxes for me. By the way, I wondered if maybe it wasn't named after Topogigio, that little Italian mouse that was on the Ed Sullivan show?? LOL! 😎🌞
