Mikael is so...cool. I had the pleasure of meeting him after one of their Prog Nation shows, and he really is as laid back a guy as he is in these interviews. And he's really the most brilliant mind in today's metal scene, bar none. The guy churns out album after stunning album...effortlessly. A true musical mastermind.
Too often we forget that these guys are real people. They get tired and fatigued, they have families, and we take that for granted. Take the day off Mikael. You deserve it.

Whoever it was that fell over at 1:20 did so because they were blinded by Mikael's sheer awesomeness!

The subject of being away from his family seems to be at the front of his mind here because he mentions it almost at the very beginning and somehow comes back to it again at the end. I suspect Mikael Akerfeldt is a good father and a good husband and I respect him even more for that than I do as a musician and songwriter, which is quite a lot, believe me.

@Restayvien Check out some of the other interviews by FaceCulture. There is a multiple-part interview with Mikael in which he is incredibly honest about the state of Opeth, who has creative control and why, the whole Peter thing, etc.. It's an interesting interview for sure.

I agree man, I could never JUST listen to pure metal all the time, the more you explore music, the harder it is to be a so-called "purist", and the more reasons you find to not be one.

@bloodyrockfire - I totally see your point in this. Mainstream music is so predictable in their lyrics it's sickening and gets really boring. That's the main reason why I stopped listening to radio a looonnnnngg time ago.

I don't know why akerfeldt decided to settle down with kids. It dissapoints me that he chose to raise a family, simply because musicians have difficulty supporting that kind of lifestyle. This could be a telltale sign of the decline of Opeth. Opeth and Porcupine Tree are the only two bands whose albums I search for at record stores. Here's to hoping their next release will meet (or exceed) my expectations. Regardless, I wish him, and his family the best.
