Very exciting! The garden prep looks good. I think we'd like to try a couple of different mulching methods. The Ruth Stout method looks like it produces some really good results.
I've heard of the Ruth Stout beds being awesome and the way to go. Now I get to see it first hand. I'm so excited. Looks great so far. I love watching you two work, you round each other out perfectly!
Rachel, I’m very excited I started watching your videos a few months ago. And decided to start them in order. It is very nice to see you guys from the beginning, very exciting. It’s helping me figure out how to decide my garden that I am slowly creating, thank you Linda from Ct
Y’all are probably my favorite couple on TH-cam, along with living homestead traditions! I love how you guys follow MI gardener! I’ve been watching him for probably 5 years now. My wife and I just got married and are wanting to start a channel of our own for our farm. We’re in NC, but we are still in zone 6b/7. Keep up the good work!☺️
Awe, thank you so much! Means a lot to us. We got to meet Luke at the grand opening of his shop. Great guy, and we love supporting fellow Michiganers and other small businesses.
Excited to see your progress we did this method stating around Christmas, we layed down card board then hay. Right now there is still a foot of snow on it so hoping we had some break down over the winter as our soil situation is terrible, rocky, clay yukkiness!
I am so excited to find a Pure Michigan homestead. I have been watching Doug and Ashley from OITC for a year now and they actually just settled in Michigan from Indiana. If you have a minute you should check them out. Looking forward to more from you. 🕊
Just came from a gardening class put on by our local County Extension Office. They do not recommend planting in an area that had pigs in it, as pigs carry worms that can infect people. 'Just a thought.
This is our first season trying Ruth Stout. Your soil does really look great. Do you plan to keep that area as a Ruth Stout bed and just continually add straw from time to time?
Ruth stout seems like such a great system to use
It really is, the water retention properties alone are worth it

Just put my first plants in the ground I'm so excited
All that straw added to the soil will enrich your garden so much. Looks good. Happy planting! Tim
Thank you, I sure hope so

Oh man, I wish you the best. May take time to build up enough compost to get you where you want to be, just keep working at it

Thanks for the feedback I'll definitely research this

I add more every fall, but my raised beds aren't Ruth Stout beds I just used straw as mulch for the spring
Not raising pigs this year?
No, we will again next year. I think we will keep doing this process of raising one year, gardening the space the following year, and so on.
