You've easily created one of the best TH-cam videos ever done on this topic. Honestly a shame that it doesn't have more views... Well done though!

ultimately i am of the belief that the atomic bombs were the best of the worst options that in the end saved more lives than they took

"Was the firebombing of Tokyo necessary?", or the firebombing of any other city? There were horrific deaths from those as well, and much more than the atomic bombs did. The only differences with the atomic bombs was we'd use a single bomb rather than hundreds or thousands, and the effects of radiation. Basically, the radiation is the only true difference. As far as the question of it destroying mostly civilians, it's no different than the bombing of Dresden. Arguably I'd say the use of Agent Orange has effected more people's lives and health than the atomic bomb did. People can live in Hiroshima and Nagasaki today within being effected by radiation. Agent Orange is still effecting peoples' health 30 to 40 years after the spraying ended, and could effect people's health for another 50 years. Such risks were known at the time of its use. I personally think the use of Agent Orange was worse than the atomic bomb. Yet it's less controversial.

Agent Orange was nasty. Was it known that said herbicide was dangerous to humans?

I value modern Japan (which includes preservation of their centuries long culture) and the Japanese people. While most things in the war, not just the nukes, were undesirable (I couldn't find the best word, so I settled on close), I don't see how we get to modern Japan without the war ending with unconditional surrender. Every alternate scenario I play out in my mind ends with more suffering and more resentment on one or both sides and that is including my ability to be a Monday morning quarterback.

Well done, you've earned a sub from me. This subject is such a nebulous thing that I'd compare it to the Isreal V Gaza situation..whatever conclusion you arrive at says more about you and your values than the event itself

Knowing how absolutely fanatic the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy was at the time with their culture of death before surrender deeply ingrained into them, rough guess probably less than 90% - 99% (or maybe 1% - 9%, not sure if I worded either of those right) actually surrendering, and not pretending to surrender with their hand on the grenade safety pin upon contact or something, crazy kind of like how radicalized Muslims who seek martyrdom (istishaad), ready to die at any moment, etc., that kinda crazy, and with every Japanese conscripted in Japan... probably millions of civilians with sharpened bamboo spears, yeah... the death toll would've been insanely massive if they absolutely refused to surrender after the 2 nuclear bombs, and maybe more
In Guam, there was a Japanese soldier named, Shoichi Yokoi, who kept fighting until 1960. Another guy named, Shoichi Yokoi, fought on until 1972, and that was just Guam AFAIK, and probably the longest holdout Japanese soldier was, Teruo Nakamura, who held out for 29 years until 1974 in I think Indonesia, so just imagine the whole entire Japan population of that time with that hardcore mindset, orders to fight until killed, never surrender
Dudes like the Jpn soldiers mentioned above, and tons of dudes like Hiroo Onoda still holding out even if Operation Downfall followed through, and those were just individuals, there were also hold out groups still holding out until 1956, so I think the bombs were definitely necessary to save the countless hundreds of thousands or million(s) of lives on all sides

yeah as a Filipino, i find it insulting that people desire the war to be fought conventionally without the bombs, as if that makes it even "better" for the Koreans, Chinese, Filipinos, and even Japanese civilians who were to be conscripted had it not fell sooner, to prolong their involvement on this already prolonged pointless war. The only right thing to do after all the wrong shi that has been done by the Axis, is to swiftly end it, whatever means necessary, its sad but bad leaders pushed our ancestors to hope for any intervention to ending all of it, finally one appears, leaving us all to little or no choices. So Why does it seem like the names of the ones who died in those bombs are far more "special" than the unnamed victims of all these countries invaded that I mentioned. Its really frustrating as someone who is knowledgeable of history, listening to white 1st world(most of the time) virtue signalers.

@SparksProx true, same, I also fancy the aesthetics of war and battle even from either sides of any history, like any typical larpy genz of the current gamin era. It just scares me some people learn the wrong lessons of history n war. Not helpin is those vocal chanting it and parading it as reality. Alot of people arent like us who spent time learnin n enjoying these topics, we know what it was all about. Others dont care, sure fine, then suddenly those others end up chanting blatant revisonisms of reality. I find this so dangerous, people be actin on shi based on their own beliefs, that some of us know, its likely to be wrong. And sorry is not gonna undo whatever outcome these "others" made in the end.
Not to mention an insult n betrayal to those who died, all of them from all sides, who made the semblance on what the world is today.
Dont want their deaths to be wasted on another sad irl larping. im here to have fun as much as possible n seek to keep it that way.

One question. Do you believe that the attacks on the mainland from the Japanese had any major influence on weather or not to drop the bomb? I known they werent very successful having only killed a reported 6 people. The incidents i am referring to are the weather balloon attack using the gulf stream and the submarine attack on the shore of California. Like i said they weren't very successful but arrogance of the day and old school ways weren't as forgiving as they are now

So sorry for not responding sooner I just saw this! To answer your question, I don’t think so. I didn’t research that side of things so I can’t say for sure though. But as you say, not many people died, and I think it would be hard for those attacks to top Pearl Harbor in the minds of Americans.
