I made a fun discovery. I am a big fan of the double oaked, and very much enjoy its depth and flavors. However, I picked up a bottle of batch proof at 124.7 proof. I’m still relatively new at bourbon appreciation, and it did sip pretty hot for my pallet. I decided to pour a glass of the double oaked to compare against, and I have to say, taking a sip of it after a sip of the barrel proof was fantastic. So incredibly delicious. I highly recommend!
I had to crack a 375ml of the Woodford Double Oak last night to sip along. Very sweet and enjoyable. It's funny that buying two 375's is cheaper than a 750ml bottle at one of my local shops. I haven't had the Woodford bourbon in ages as I always thought of it more of a beginner bourbon but I will have to revisit as it's uncanny how my tasks keep changing and evolving. Have a great spring break, Jon!
WRDO introduced me to oaked, toasted, and char barrel expressions, and my love for them. I always make sure to have WRDO on hand. I just found this review. Thanks for posting it.
As always, you give a fair and honest review. I'm oddly grumpy about WR Double Oaked. In my area it's 30-40% more expensive than regular Woodford - $54 vs. $35-$39 USD. And for $54 there are much better options. There's a difference between a bourbon that is simply aged longer and one with "extra" wood flavor added with a second barreling, staves, or whatever. It tastes and feels a bit like a gimmick. However, like you, I found that it opened up in the bottle and seemed more balanced and nuanced after a while. But I still think the balance suffers and the competition is fierce. I can't say for sure, but I think I'd likely prefer a 10-year age-stated Woodford to the Double-Oaked.
Great review, Jon. I never bought the Double Oaked expression, but a decade ago, Woodford Reserve was my go to bourbon at home. I would buy a new bottle as my previous one was getting low. I don't drink it much anymore because I think there are more interesting bourbons out there, but I still have an opened bottle in my cabinet in case I'm feeling nostalgic. ;) Cheers!
Certainly more interesting expressions than the regular, but a good Bourbon and one that has not shot up in price around here, so it remains a solid choice. Cheers!
Great video! That double Oaked sounds right up my alley aside from the price point 😂 Woodford has a special place in my heart. The day I got married, I went for breakfast with my dad and our waiter insisted he make me a drink to celebrate. He made me an old fashioned with woodford and that was the first time that I thought "hey, this stuff is good!"
Great review Jon and talk about timing. I just picked up a bottle of Double Oaked this evening on a whim at $10 off in Ontario. It sounds like you need to give it some time to get over whatever astringency when you first crack it open. I look forward to enjoying this bottle.
If you're going to drink bourbon this one is a very good choice... It impressed me when I had it, and I'm reminded that I have not had wrdo in several years
Review your is spot on. You really like that it but it as keep sipping, the last sip is a little over an n the oak. I do really love me one t though, well worth it at the price.
I haven’t tried it but will have to now. The only WR I own is the straight wheat which I found by chance so I grabbed it. It remains unopened. I wanted to try regular WR before I jump into another expression just for a base of comparison. Great review!
This is actually one of my favorite noses. I get Pancakes and Syrup all day long. It's not my favorite palate, but it's still really good. Solid bourbon.
Recently was gifted with this double oaked , but boy was is horrible ! I have so many almost all of the leading ones including few higher end ones Bookers, Whistlepig, Rare Breed, Russels, local store handpicks, many many single barrels of Bourbon and Rye. this one tastes straight like a turpentine oil or shellac . Not sure if my bottle / batch is bad. I have now let it sit 3/4 bottle for about a month hoping it would change somehow. Don’t think will buy it ever again.
Wow! I am not sure what to say. I seem to like it a little less than most, but it is still good. Many people I know rate it highly. I hate to say it, but it does sound like a bad bottle?!
Yes, there is a bitter aftertaste, but there are so many other great flavours. I'm not sure why you have not caught all the other notes. Hopefully the right bourbon will come along and change your mind!
One of my favorites, like to always have it on the shelf
Or in the glass😉
I think it is a favourite of many. Great bourbon!
Love your videos. You've always got a naturally positive vibe and it's always a pleasure to hear what you have to say!
Thank you! I use these moments to actually relax, pour a dram and talk, like i'm visiting with friends. Cool some of that somes across. Cheers!
I concur!
The standard WR has also grown on me over the years. I like it, but I really like the Double Oaked. Cheers Jon.
It is much richer, but this specific bottle is a bit bitter. Not sure why.
double oak is my favorite bourbon so far
100% worth it
Awesome!
Double oaked is a great pour 👍🏻
It is nearly universally loved by all! Cheers!

Thanks! Wild the 375 is cheaper. Cheers!
Such a great bottle to show what bourbon can be. Great pour for people new to drinking bourbon
I would agree, the extra oak is a bit sweeter, which appeals! Cheers

Happy to share, and great you have these all available to you. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
This one deliveres really what I would expect. Quality oak maturation. I like it

Great insight and I would love to try an older Woodford! This bottle has certainly improved though and I am enjoying it now. Cheers!
Great review my friend. I just picked up a bottle of the double, double oaked. I can't wait to review it.
Wild! I hope it's not too much oak! Cheers!
Currently $38 at Costco. So happy to find it at this price. Honestly still one of my favorite bourbons to this day despite branching out.
That is a fantastic price. A tastey one for sure!

It certainly has improved for me with a couple of months air time. It is sweet and rich!
It is good! Cheers!
Glad you enjoy it!

Worth visiting again I would say. Good stuff.
I love this bourbon, and we got the greatest deal in history on it!
Oh? Is it half off or what?
@@WhiskyNeighbour I can't really say. Some sort of crazy special. $13.98 for 750 ml.
@@ronaldtheriot well, enjoy!
Nice review mate cheers from Australia
Cheers! Thanks
I too like the double oaked!
Good company!
Im a newbie to Bourbon as we dont get many in the U.K but i finished this bottle in a week 😆✌
Awesome!
Your tastings are so nice and pleasurable.
I mixed Woodford with some Templeton Rye and found I like the mix better than either alone🤷♂️
I love it when a blend comes together! Thanks for sharing!

I have not had their wheat release. If you open it before I bring one home, come back and share some of your thoughts! This one is excellent. Cheers!
I will have to try my double oak again, it seemed so woody they first time that I had it. It was a little over the top for me that time.
Hopefully you enjoy!
This is actually one of my favorite noses. I get Pancakes and Syrup all day long. It's not my favorite palate, but it's still really good. Solid bourbon.
So glad you enjoy this!! Pancakes and syrup are a favorite!!
got this new bottle from LCBO, such a rich flavor, def worth spending extra bucks to upgrade from regular Woodford Rs.
@@gratefuldeadly7899 Thanks for sharing!
Woodford Double Oaked is my go to bourbon even in Toronto where it usually goes for 69.95… yeesh
Still for the value I find that it’s worth it
It certainly is enjoyable. Thanks for sharing!
$10 off for the next 3-4 weeks at the LCBO.
@@Rohit_M oh don’t worry, I took great advantage of that sale 😋
@@Jopes17 My first go at Woodford Double Oaked....look forward to it.
@@Rohit_M I hope you enjoy!
This is my favorite standard product from Woodford. Enjoy your spring break and thanks for the great review. Cheers.
Thanks for the good wishes and for dropping in. This particular bottle took a minute to open up, but I am certainly enjoying it!

"Where I was buying (price point) at the time." That's probably the story of most people's whisky journey.
Great quote catch! Yep, if we stay in it, the price of what we buy slowly goes up!
Great review. I think it's decent but over priced (75 in Ontario ) and under proof. Imo
Great insight. I did not enjoy it as much as I wanted to. So it was hard for me to be very objective!
This bourbon deserves some good red meat with it.
I could agree with that!
Outright bitter! For the life of me, I do not know what makes bourbon drinkers remotely like the very bitter aftertaste. YUK!
Yes, there is a bitter aftertaste, but there are so many other great flavours. I'm not sure why you have not caught all the other notes. Hopefully the right bourbon will come along and change your mind!
@@WhiskyNeighbour Thanks for your reply. I WILL certainly continue to try others
