I was really bummed that there was no way to go back to the LA that existed when the game launched, and then they brought it back with the gizmo. So happy to be able to get back now, as this was such a beautiful zone with the nautical theme that they tied into the novels. The original Troll's End JP is there as well. Go explore the sewers too! BTW I think I read somewhere you can get people to join you with a TP to friend.
I think TP's work as well. It's definitely it's own map that's "somewhere" on the world map and not instanced. Just not accessible via it. & Re Exploring: def will do! 😄 I can't wait to see all of this beautiful map!!
damn the nostalgia. I bought and played GW2 when it first came out and this is the ONLY lion's arch I can remember, and I remember it full of players in the well thingy earea crafting their sht away. I miss it.
I actually didn't know what the underwater monument was when one of my friends asked me. So I'll be sure to relay the message. That makes a LOT of sense. 😆
@@GW2Pseudo I remember standing there where you swam by for hours just showing off my cool dyes and minis 16+ years ago lol damn it's underwater by the time of gw2 because of zhaitans rising causing a tsunami

thank you for taking me home again. I've missed this place. I recently visited EotM to show my bud where I used to level all my characters and had the same feels.
I was there when they destroyed Lion's Arch. It was very emotional and something that no other MMO had ever done. I couldn't believe they actually DELETED the original LA and made a whole new LA.
Same happened to me when i was still starting the game few months ago but its in divinitys reach. I spent 4 hours talking to ramdom npc and evesdropping npc conversations. So love that moment and i think i converted to worship dwayna
I remember that I was taking a break back in the day and missed the 1st living world season. And when I came back Lions arch was changed. The buildings in the north west corner appear to have living spaces. It is also the part that still looks like it is made of boats. I'm just not sure who thought a Brutalist Disneyland was a good idea.
@@jrdougan"Brutalist Disneyland" is a great way to put it. I have to think they were chasing the game design trend at the time of "more big = better, even if it's open space." Partially due to the npc limit & partially due to the fact that Old LA literally had everyone crammed together in a great metaphor for how the races had come to coexist in Tyria, I just feel as though, seeing it now, new LA lacks a lot of the personality. 😅
@@GW2Pseudo During the reconstruction of LA, there were workers pouring “concrete” and welding (what looked to me like) rebar. I’m not sure what else to call it. The Old LA was more crowded than that, even. People used to hang out in numbers and show off their fashions on the ledge in front of the bank. That has to have made servers and clients unhappy. I suspect new LA was a reaction to that.
GW2 is really the best MMO out there it might not be the best in isolated aspects, but the whole package just comes together in the best possible way. Its full of "they didn't have to, but they did" details all around
Pretty much. I'm almost certain they had to reconstruct Old LA from scratch. And it's not like they *had* to re-release S1 for free, or at all. But they did!
When it first launched, every person in old LA shouted, OMG this is so cool. so many memories, I will use this instead of New LA. After some time has passed, every time I go there, it is empty
I think it's the no mounts thing and the fact that it's not on the main map. If it had mounts and was visible, but restricted I bet it'd had more prestige in people's eyes. :D
Indeed, they recently put S1 back in the game. Playing through all the story + achievements unlocks Old LA as a passkey. Which is how I got here for the first time after 10 years! 😄
I like to decrease graphics settings to make the game more 2D-ish. It makes me feel like I'm inside paper printed graphic novel. There's lots of nice looking games, but GW2 has it's own style, and it's just beautiful
I know they were trying to keep it original. But I wish they updated it to have modern vendors and maybe give me my rested buff. So I could use this one over the new ones.
Or just enabled chair (and not traditional mounts, tho I would personally prefer the option for both.) -- Since they can clearly stratify those in places like Armistice Bastion -_-

I should have put this in the video but it was 5am and I was delirious. When I started GW2 I was an MMO Baby and didn't understand that you need to get most of your gear from the p2p Trading post and not off vendors. I was also playing (or trying to play) core condi Mesmer, which was basically impossible this way. So the game was very slow for me & I thought "Well it's an MMO, WoW has grind this must just be how they are." So it was very slow-going. I was also starting University at the time, so by the time I actually "got to" LA it was the destroyed version. 😂

This Zone is nuts with the details.
21:00 the red ring on the ground is ArenaNet logo in 3d, while the underwater monument is remnant from GW1's LA main square.

Huh. You're right. I guess they really did have to rebuild everything from scratch as the game went on.
Just a tad bit more charming than "concrete Sea World" I'd say.
Just a tad lol. Love your videos btw. Especially the mesmer cat
