    Good video!! As a mesmer player and shadow priest main ( specter is visually similar but it's still a thief elite spec so it's missing alot of caster weapons and skills), mesmer is also about playing with the mind and has good condition weapons/builds! I would like to say mesmer/specter def fits the theme! (Necro can kinda fit too with scourge support like offhealing shadow priest!) ty!

    GW2 Engineer to WoW = Shaman + Hunter + Druid + Engineer crafting profession, and obviously not aesthetic wise (except the crafting prof). Super versatile like a druid, with oomph/burstiness of an enhance/ele shaman, some utility that are kind of like totems, and hunter type utility good anti stealth stuff, plus if you play elite spec mechanist you get a pet like hunter. Plus the function Gyro that follows you around as Scrapper is kinda like a pet/totem.
    For Ele, I'd say aesthetic wise it is like Shaman and some play style, but play style feels more like a mage/druid( element swapping like form swapping) + monk kind of. Mesmer is like an Arcane mage and shadow priest had a baby, then when that baby grew up it had a baby with an Esper from Wildstar xD, and that baby was a GW2 mesmer.
    Monk is defiantly Daredevil/Willbender + Rev.
    Evoker is so incredibly niche when compared to GW2 I also conclude it really has no valid comparison. p.s. I've played Evoker, so I'm certain it has no comparison.

    I lead an AOTC guild on zuljin in WoW. Gw2 is perfect for our downtime between seasons/expansions. Gw2 is kind of like a Nintendo switch as It's a fantastic companion to your PC, right? It's easy to jump back into gw2 after we've done all of our ksm/h and AOTC shenanigans.

  • @Ithiryn

    Honestly when it's stance dancing giving you sets of different abilities you'e locked into I'd say rev's closest comparision is druid mechanically, just not thematically. xD

      True thematically it's off but mechanicly you may have a point. Honestly if we look at it like that then I'd even consider engineer to be close because of its kits!

    Mesmer is a tough one to compare. Personally I compare it to Shadowpriest, the Greatsword being akin to Mindflay and both class fantasies revolving around mind-manipulation. And the Shatter abilities are like spriest dots.
    That being said, the Mirage is more like a Havoc Demonhunter due to how important movement/evades are for dealing damage. But that’s me 😄
    Anyways great job my man, love the vid!

      @@CaffeinatedDad Mesmer definitely is arcane mage idea-wise. Specifically designed and doubled down to be super viable and cool. Arcane mage is derived from w3 sorceress who is nothing else but mesmer. It's based on mind games to outplay enemies (making them look like a sheep methaphorically and literally and then crushing them) while shadow priest is about abusing faith to inflict emotional damage under which will the enemy wither. While they both focus on mind mesmer/arcane mage focus on the intelligence aspect while shadow priest on the emotional intelligence.

Holos remember a lot fury warrior and scrappers enhancement shamans a little, especially considering the utility of the gyros or even the turrets. Also. mechanist can play a little like warlocks (of course not considering it's thematics, but mechanic wise).

    Beta tested WoW back in the day, played for a very long time then left for gw2, and it’s sooo much better. My main in WoW was the shaman, and my top alt was fire mage. Let me tell you, the elementalist is like being both shaman and mage all in one. You get the tool kit versatility of a shaman, the fire burst of a pyro mage, and of course the legendary squishiness of a mage. But it’s fun, so much fun, once you get good at it.

    Revenant = Shaman King

  • @Draxynnic
    @Draxynnic ปีที่แล้ว

    I know even less about Dracthyr, having not played WoW at all, but from what I hear it sounds like another spellslinger, so elementalist probably is closest.
    Mind you, it depends what the player is looking for. If the goal is to have something with a dragon theme, there are three suitable options:
    The most obvious is a herald revenant: they channel power from the memory of a heroic dragon who died shortly before the game starts, and therefore has abilities involving manifesting ghostly dragon claws to slash at the enemy, wings to blow enemies back with a gust of wind, or breath on a target area. Combining it with pretty much any of the core legends will work (particularly since you can justify all of them having some connection to dragons), but the most natural if you don't think about the lore is probably combining with Mallyx for a condition herald: mostly because mace as your primary melee weapon allows you to regularly set the ground in front of you on fire for a similar feel to dragon breath.
    Dagger elementalist is also a good choice - any elite specialisation would work, although I'd probably go with catalyst or weaver over tempest. This lets you do a lot of breathing fire (and occasionally cold) on your enemies, and a lot of the other skills can be viewed as elemental manifestations of other dragon attacks. Warhorn is probably the best offhand for this theme, as a lot of warhorn skills feel a bit like they're emulating elemental breath attacks or magic-infused roars.
    Guardian is a bit less obvious and doesn't make explicit dragon references like the other two do (apart from the dragonhunter Dragon's Maw trap, which when triggered manifests as ghostly dragon jaws that snap around the victim, confining them in place). However, if you run a condition guardian with torch, guardian too can breathe fire (and throw fire around in general). This probably works best with firebrand or willbender: firebrand can potentially be throwing a LOT of cones of fire around if you build for that, while willbender tends to zoom around the battlefield generating fires all around them. However, this is very much something of a 'dragon knight' style rather than a full dragon style, as any guardian build is still going to be relying mostly on more conventional weapon attacks, either martial or spellcasting weapons.
    Unfortunately, while you'd think soulbeast merging with a drake or wyvern pet would count, the way soulbeast works means that doing so won't give you the breath weapon.

  • @wigotheroxxor
    @wigotheroxxor ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For the totems, its renegate who got them with their assists, hammer elem can fit the role of an evoker for the damage spec, and for the buff spec, it can be related to herald. But its not really a 1 to 1 comparaison

    • @CaffeinatedDad
      @CaffeinatedDad  ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean there are no massively direct comparisons and even with the evoker it's even harder to make that so. Perhaps a dagger elementalist breathing fire? Lol

    • @wigotheroxxor
      @wigotheroxxor ปีที่แล้ว

      @CaffeinatedDad If you want to have something visually similar, yeah, but evoker is a close range class with high mobility, so pretty much anything that 450-600 range can claim that similarity

    I think EliteSpecs is where Gw2's combat shines. The base professions are like wow's classes without the Talent system. Band and boring-ish.

    Example: DragonHunter does not fit well the Paladin archetype.

    While i like the idea of what you were going for in this video, I feel like it was put together VERY hastely.
    You constantly switch between approaching thematic and mechanical similarities and don't stick to either or separate them clearly, that just leads to more confusion.
    A good example for this i think would be Revenant.
    You compare revenant to Demon hunters while i would never put them in the same boat.
    Demon Hunters are very mobile but simple class with easy to manage resource.
    While revenant's resource is way more similar to the Monk's or Rogue's energy.
    And like come on Rev's sword main hand 3 is literally Rogue's killing spree.
    Mechanically i would say Daredevil fits Monk well yes, but also fits demon hunter too with how mobile it is with the extra dodge and just generally the thief's kit.
    I feel like you could have done more research on the classes to compare abilities and show some examples.
    You focused too much on comparing one class to another in ways that in my opinion felt forced.
    You could have mentioned that core necromancer can be considered similar to shadowpriest too because shadow priest builds up insanity to go into void form and dish out damage from range.
    Similarly core necro builds up it's shroud to go into a lich form and dish out powerful damage from range.
    Not to mention both focusing on DoT damage.
    Or i think you mistakenly compared specter with shadowpriest because, well both use shadow magic and have like purple shadowy form and both can support their allies so i guess they are similar.
    But if anything I would say Specter is more similar to Discipline priest, as disc priests do damage to aid their allies. Not to mention both use barriers to shield their allies from damage.
    Both specter and disc priest can dish out good amounts of damage and use that to support their allies while giving them shields proactively.
    Only difference between the two is that disc is waaaaay less mobile than specter and disc doesn't have a big focus on dot damage unlike Specter.
    So yeah, I like the vid but i feel like there could have been way better comparisons.
    EDIT: Disc could also be compared to scourge necro, and engineer could be compared to druid from wow because both druid and engineer kinda do a stance dance and they both can always pick the right tool/form for the right job

      Class design in GW2 used to be amazing (from a class identity and fantasy perspective) but since specializations it's been barely okay to straight up stupid sometimes. I don't think specializations are the problem, it's more the guys who are in charge who seem to be incapable of doing them well. They're really struggling with class identity and fantasy and making all that make sense in the lore while still giving interesting gameplay options.
      They often do some weird things and I can't help but think they're trying to be original just for the sake of being original and they mix and match things incoherently believing that's how you're creative.
      Like the willbender that has a name that is just taken out of a hat, and put some monk moves on an agressive knight with double swords.... All of that just doesn't really blend together.
      And then there's the Dragonhunter that has the most stupid name with the most stupid theme.
      Dont get me wrong, I wouldnt have any problem with the themes they are going for with the guardian IF they were doing it well, and IF we also had the option of the classic tanky paladin or the priest like healer with white magic (like the gw1 monk for example) that everyone likes and expects when they first create a guardian and read its description at character creation !
      The idea of them creating some weird stuff with obvious flaws while we are missing on classic stuff that are straight up simpler and that everyone expects can be so annoying sometimes it just discourages me from playing some of my characters.
      And this is just talking about the guardian here... they ALL have problems like that.

    Hearing the necromancer's description is honestly a little infuriating as someone who mains necromancer/warlock in every game. No offense to you but Summons and minions are so underpowered and bad you really aren't going to have a great experience with it.
    Necromancer used to be a great Shaman type character with Scourge but with the unnecessary nerf to shade duration that playstyle was butchered to make it more like everyone else rather than its unique way of playing.
    Even months after that I'm still really upset about that change.
