    In this video I will show you how to install a Cat 6 Feed-Thru plug on a Cat 6 cable. IDEAL is pleased to announce the introduction of the IDEAL Cat 6 Feed-Thru Modular Plug and FT-45™ Crimp Tool product line. The CAT 6 one piece plug plus the crimp tool offer a simplified solution to traditional modular plug preparation and termination.

    I have these connectors to try and fit to cat6 cable but no matter what I try I can’t get the the cores to push up into the connector!

      Kris you may have a Cat 6 cable that has thicker insulation on the conductors. Look for the 85-385 Cat 6/6A connectors they will probably work. Ron

    Will this CAT6 Feed-Thru plug work with CAT 6 23AWG? Or will a staggered plug be needed?

    • @RonKipperDatacomm1
      @RonKipperDatacomm1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Andrew the plugs will work with wire diameters of 0.041 and jacket diameters of 0.290. We just launched a new shielded plug for cable with larger diameters up to 0.048 and it has a staggered pattern for the wires. The catalog # is 85-36 or 85-369. I just put out a new video for the new plug

    Good grief, I bought these crazy connectors without realizing they are pull through. Now I need a new crimper?

    • @RonKipperDatacomm1
      @RonKipperDatacomm1  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael afraid so............the good news is the crimper we sell can do both the new feed-thru and standard IDEAL plugs we sell. I think one of the biggest comments I get from contractors is it's size which is much smaller than many other crimpers on the market. Ron

    • @mdpenner
      @mdpenner 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im more of a do it your self, and I don't really want to upgrade my crimper at present. Although I can see how the pull through is much simpler. If I was starting new, Id go with it.

    • @RonKipperDatacomm1
      @RonKipperDatacomm1  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael I kind of agree about using standard plugs I have done so many the feed-thru does not help. You could still use the feed-thru and trim the wires before inserting them. Ron

    • @mdpenner
      @mdpenner 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried using a utility knife and kinda butchered the wires. What would you use to trim them?

    • @RonKipperDatacomm1
      @RonKipperDatacomm1  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would wire it just like I would a regular modular plug. Trim the wires before inserting them so they don't stick out the other end and then crimp it. hey your early morning boat ride looked fun. Ron

      Hi Mr Tom1379 I have told contractors for years go home with a box of connectors and some wire and put one on and cut it off 20 later you should be good to go! Have fun Ron

    • @darrelllehman6616
      @darrelllehman6616 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only 24awg cable Cat 6 will work when all conductors are in one row. Cat 6a which supports 10G networking at full length requires 23awg. That is when the offset 2 rows of 4 conductors are needed. Cat 6 is kind of an in-between standard on the way to CAT 6A

    • @RonKipperDatacomm1
      @RonKipperDatacomm1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Darrell you can definitely find high end residentail applications for Cat 6A today but I think it will be another 20 years before we see 10G applications in a common home so save some money and stick with Cat 6. Ron

    • @darrelllehman6616
      @darrelllehman6616 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. Residential most likely will not need more than 1gbit networks. I get into 10g running video in commercial venues. We had a client run their own cat 6 (we were expecting 6A) and we used some 6A connectors that didn't support 24awg. The copper plungers on some of the pins actually went into the insulation and didn't contact the conductors. We have other ca6a connectors that work fine with 24awg. Now we are bit particular about which connectors we use with which cables.
