Most add-ons I've looked into have heavy overlap with existing features that people simply haven't learned about yet so they think the add-on is the only fast or easy way to do it. If you learn the full extent of Blender's stock capabilities and learn the hotkeys, many timesaver add-ons are not timesavers at all. And if you use free assets and keep an organized folder structure of your past projects, then you have a large library of assets to use and paying for additional assets feels more like burning money and robbing yourself of experience of how to make things, which decreases your flexibility and effectiveness in the future since you relied on paid asset packs to hobble things together instead of learning how to efficiently make exactly what you need. Most crucial/obvious necessity add-ons are free, and I haven't been convinced yet of paying for any add-ons for the above reasons.
Thanks for sharing your insights. I agree that you can do almost anything to an extent in Blender and knowing how to do stuff is great. For example I know how to make foliage assets in Blender. It seems but be a double-edged sword. People working from countries with a low currency conversion rate (compared to the US/UK) can’t afford many paid products out the gate, but the “upside” is that people in these areas undercut the hell out of people living in those relatively wealthier areas, making it difficult to impossible to compete with freelance rates.

@@KaizenTutorials The main difference of blender to other 3D modeling tools is that it is opensource and supported by the community and donations. I have been learning how and have unique ideas but have yet to make the leap jumping in the pool, it's a lot of work and unfortunately I can't ignore the importance of realistic financial expectations. Landlord requires cash, he doesn't care. Lol
Absolutely! Thanks for the kind words. If you mean how much a good addon can make when you sell it; 100's of thousands. Just look at something like hardops which has sold around 35000 copies on Blendermarket alone, times $38 is over a million $. But realistically I'd say if you do a good addon it should make you anywhere from $5000-15000.
I don't have time to create characters / render people / bespoke grass / custom trees / biomes. I gotta model buildings!! YEAH we buy the stuff so that the end result looks the best.

For me the only one that actually guarantees to make me money is Turbo Render. It doesn't matter if it's paid work or just hobby work, because It saves a ton of money in electricity by speeding up my Cycles renders. If I could only have one addon, that would be it.
100% agree, speeds up workflow, rendering, and post production massively. The way it's been designed to have that much power with virtually zero learning curve is next level. Just turn it on and continue using Blender as usual...insane!
from what i personally get from this video is if you make money with blender, buy every posible addon because everything is "hard and time consuming " and if you are a hobbist, i don't know just learn for the purpose of fun i guess?
Well yes esentially. If you make money, spending money on addons makes sense because they can help make your life easier/save time. If you're a hobbyist you can still get addons, but realise they're just there for fun now.
I've heard this before and I have no idea if it's true or not. Having said that it wouldn't matter either way, because paying people for their work is only fair.
@@KaizenTutorials Of course it's fair, I myself have singlehandedly developed a Blender add-on, spend at least 200 hours on it. I tried to see if I could sell it but then I saw that the Blender License agreement (It says very clearly) said that anyone who bought it could FREELY distribute it. It was a little bit of a bummer for me, but it is true.
The reason why professionals use add-ons is purely because 'somebody already did it better', and because time is expensive. If someone's hourly rate is $100, then spending any time tinkering or trying to do something that an add-on can already do is lost income. Even something as simple as a $5 geometry nodes setup from Blender Market might save an entire hour. Meaning you just saved $95...
Probably 99.9+ % of those who watch these channels and videos about 3D creation, are amateurs who just do it for fun, not making a single bit of income from it. For these channels to constantly push paid addons is a bit offensive, to be honest. This channel isn't all that bad, but there are some that are egregious, particularly with promoting their own stuff.
People who don’t have money or don’t want to spend money on stuff aren’t the ones who keep channels like this on the air. The “I don’t have money to spend so I want everyone to do every single thing for free and I don’t want to hear about anything that costs money” crowd maybe large, but it doesn’t make them any less annoying.
I get your opinion. But the creators count on the purchases of these 1% of viewers. I'm ok with promoting, even though I'm probably not the audience. On the other hand channels need viewers to shine in the social media environment, so you need videos that attract viewers that don't have these expensive add-ons. Just be grateful for free advice and ideas and close videos that use software that's way out of your budget. There are many hobbies that are very expensive and people do them for fun.
@@mytube001it’s a poor assumption as for many it’s a full time job. Others who do it as a side gig would love for it to be full time if viable, since working as a professional freelance 3D artist is a horrible and stressful job. It’s why I, as a professional freelance 3D artist, am extremely grateful there is any content out there for free, and that there are channels which circulate news about the 3D industry including their own and others paid addons. I suggest everyone adopt this outlook because complaining about stuff you get for free not being ‘free enough’ is a total and utter dick move.
Hi guys i give you a secret for making money with 3D juste learn and try tobwork for paying real class make a nice book/showreel and get hired by a company studio you will not earn a lot by modeling a hundred of assets studio already have big data base and surely better model with all the uv etc and on top of that they already wirk with spécial studio for all of those thing or between them in internal ! So keep it up and stop bullshit
Making a nice showreel and getting hired is absolutely a good idea. Addons can help you do that as they help improve your output quality, amount and let you make cooler, better portfolio pieces.
Yeah... Not sure what to say about this... I mean, this concept is nothing new. A carpenter, a painter, car mechanic, literally every profession you can think of needs some kind of tool set to do the job. Tools cost money, but make your job easier. It's really not some revolutionary new concept for digital artists. You just call your tools add-ons...
Absolutely true, but a lot of people look at buying said tools/addons/paint brushes, whatever you want to call them, solely as an expense which hurts, not as an investment which will help them make more $
OK off the bat. addon's are useful and can save you time depending on who you are and what you need them for. BUT professional or not, Add-ons should be free, for all, no matter why or who you are, make money from producing content, movies, games, whatever else, but making money from code is no better than paid software, it is anti-community, it is extending Blenders core code so others can use it effectively and ways that are central to everyones benefit, that is why the more paid add-ons make Blender no better than other proprietary software, it needs to stop this is getting worse because everyone is trying to make money from blender however they can, but it's not helpful, everyone including the creators of add-ons benefit from all add-ons for free, and get back more than just money from doing so, no matter how much time you spent making the add-on or not! OPEN SOURCE, stay open! i hate this argument of making money from add-ons because it is emotionally charged by monetary slavery!
I get where you're coming from, but if it were free there would only be a fraction of the addons available, at a fraction of the quality. Addons would be few and far between, slow in development and will probably never receive updates. Hardly no-one has time to make proper addons, besides their job and daily life, for free.
Blender is a free software, but not if you want decent functionalities that you get for free with other DCCs, makes no sense to me to use Blender professionally, not with all its limitations! 🤔🤷
Blender is great in lots of things, but not in everything. Which makes sense. You don't go to a restaurant that does burgers, pizaa's and sushi right? That's probably going to suck. So instead you go to a specialized restaurant focussing on one thing. Blender is more broad than that already but it's specialized to an extent and if you want a different dish you'll need to get it elsewhere if you want the quality to stay good enough.
@@KaizenTutorials The only thing Blender does that Houdini does not, is sculpting and texturing, it is average on sculpting, ZB and 3DC are far better options IMHO, and it sucks at texturing, Mari, 3DC, and Painter are a far better option IMHO, for everything else Houdini leaves Blender in the dust, again, IMHO!

100% agree, speeds up workflow, rendering, and post production massively. The way it's been designed to have that much power with virtually zero learning curve is next level. Just turn it on and continue using Blender as usual...insane!
Nice!
from what i personally get from this video is if you make money with blender, buy every posible addon because everything is "hard and time consuming " and if you are a hobbist, i don't know just learn for the purpose of fun i guess?
Well yes esentially. If you make money, spending money on addons makes sense because they can help make your life easier/save time. If you're a hobbyist you can still get addons, but realise they're just there for fun now.
ah yes let me watch this before spending morre money on addons
Exactly, nice haha!
Bro do u hav skillshare course?
Not yet! I’m going to make one in the future though
nicely done
subbed
Thanks for the sub!
#0 They can add it as a business expense on taxes and actually make money off of their renders
Hahaha that's true too, yep ;-) but a bit harder to apply when you're starting out and maybe haven't even officially registered as a business!
OCD is just a time saver :D
Yeah to an extent it is!
I don't know why they don't mind when they can be all legally freely distributed.
@@frankied.2828 hmm ok, well true it might be. But selling your addon on Blendermarket can still be really succesful and profitable.
Great
Can you make a video on free addons which are quite useful cuz I am brokie >;(
Haha yeah maybe at some point!
@@KaizenTutorials Thanks for that reply!
Yep, 100% exactly this. Saving time is saving money.
Efficiency
Heck yeah!
I do care, I do mind.
ok!
facts so far
I have time but no money
Time to find gigs, make money and buy addons then! 💪
@@btn237 My assumption is that people have a proper job, and make videos as a side gig. Doing this full time sounds crazy and irresponsible.
Yeah I think most has been said in the comments. I'm indeed a full-time TH-camr, which is crazy yes, but I wouldn't call it irresponsible. :-)
90% of this video is stock footage
you mean it's showing footage of the addons? Yeah, but that kinda makes sense right?
WWWW
W's all around.
You are aware that cinema4d, Maya and the like also don't have all of these features?
People still pay for add-ons when using paid software.
@@lordwafflesthegreat Very few plugins for Houdini, while there are literally thousands of plugins for Blender, there is even a plugin that ads over a hundred FBX functionalities to Blender, Blender is not a functional software, period!
@@gcharb2d to each their own. I haven't tried Houdini. I think sculpting works good enough in Blender and yes texturing is better in Painter.
thx for this masterpice
You’re welcome! 🤗
Yeah atleast you aint paying a subs monthly, it is better cuz you can pick and choose the add on that you actually need😂😂😂😂
Exactly!
