Forget the paper pellets, get pine pellets, cheap and they neutralize smells. They turn to sawdust when wet, easy to sift out good pellets from used so you save money. Can compost. You can purchase in feed stores as equine pellets. If they can absorb horse pee, goat pee, imagine how well they will work for cats lol. Game changer and, because the ammonia is immediately absorbed and neutralized, it is healthier for the cat when in use.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s the grocery store Costco or a savings superstore everything is just grossly overpriced. Somethings I get it and I make excuses for why it’s so high but the reality is we all can’t keep up that pace for much longer. I went to the grocery store which I do once a week I normally I spend about $100 for 3 people. We are all creatures of habit so of course I buy the same stuff same staples I walked out of there it was $250. I decided to come home and rethink my meals yet still making them tasty. I’m going to try for the first time to make my own bread more sandwich rolls. You make it look so easy but I did buy a bunch of instant yeast on Amazon and I have a large Quantity of flour from Costco. I have room for some epic fails, but I have nothing to lose and I am excited to try.
Follow a good basic recipe, make sure it can rise in a warm draft free area and don't forget the salt ( flour needs salt). And you will have great bread. I bought cast iron bread pans, the bread never burns but these pans are for bread only. I just brush the crumbs out. Over time your bread will taste better because the pans are bread only. Everything else gets cooked in the glass and tin loaf pans. This info came from the best bread baker on our block 60 years ago.

Get a sourdough starter going for when you run out of yeast that way you can make bread without yeast. It’s super easy! Bread products were the first thing I stopped purchasing and just making myself. Tortillas were next.
I use Jenny bakes bread, it always co.mes out good and it is basically the same recipe that are on other videos. I add a tsp of sugar to the recipe and warm the bowl by rinsing it in warm water.
The sourdough book that Chelsea shows in the prior video (I think prior ... her first sourdough) is my favorite and I think the BEST beginner or otherwise. I've been baking sourdough for over 7 years ... bought the book 2-3 years ago and made quite a few of the recipes with no failures. One of the keys is water. I have excellent well water which is not treated with anything. I know that is not typical and I think from answering questions/troubleshooting with beginners, water can be problematic in inhibiting good bacteria growth which is what makes the rise. For commercial yeast - make sure it is "good" as in active and you can google ways to test it which are different depending on the type. Another good blog for bread is AlexandraCooks. She has a lot of both yeast and sourdough recipes ... all very simple with good instruction, photos and some videos. ***Edited to add: pay more attention to what the recipe says to look for: feel, smell, look vs time tables. And I know that Chelsea said she doesn't like scale measuring (weight vs volume), but scale is far more accurate, you use less utensils and recipes are easier to modify (halve, double, triple, etc.)
I'm impressed. You are the only person apart from me that plants tomato plants that way, by removing the two first leaves and planting up to the part of the stem... They make for such healthier and stronger plants. Way to go.

I use blinds to make labels for many years, work very fine for me.

I'm in the US and we use big bags of pelleted horse bedding that we get at our local Tractor Supply Co. They are around $7 USD. Not sure if you have TSC in your area but if you have a farm store you might be able to find something similar. It's just wood pressed into pellets, the same as some pellet cat litters that are sold here
Can’t thank you enough for your honesty and your transparency it really gives me perspective being in California as a 9B and it really helps me to understand and appreciate the differences between places states, countries, and households,etc.

Good morning Chelsea from our NH farm. Thanks for sharing your grocery haul. You have reminded me to contact my neighbor to make a Cosco run to Nashua. Like you, it is quite the trip, but so worth it. We have a new 7 month old rescue kitten. For litter I use a combination of plain sawdust, pelleted horse sawdust and pine litter pellets. As we only have one cat, I clean it out twice a day. No smell, all natural.
I just bought a S/S Seaside cat water fountain. It is super quiet and she loves it! Non-organic 3 romaine package was $4.99 this week at a local store. Good that you are growing greens indoors. Great project!
Looks like we are in for a round of snow storms starting tonight, Monday and Wednesday. Getting our barn work done ahead and preparing to be snug at home with little Muffin-Stuffin. She follows me around and keeps me company. Muffin has lots of toys and we will enjoy playing with her this weekend. ~ Diane
Watching this gave me a moment of nostalgia when you showed the Magic Baking Powder. It's thr same brand my mom always used, but a a Canadian (Alberta) who has lived in the states for 20 years, I don't see the same brands from my childhood. This is one of the reasons I follow you, is love for my homeland.

You will love those Pyrex bowls. I have a similar set and they are perfectly sized. Just don't microwave the lids or put them in the dishwasher, the package says it's safe but the lids warp really easily.

I was wondering what I did wrong with my lids, I put them in the dishwasher since the package said that was perfectly fine and they came out warped, concave, twisted-just all sorts of misshapen. They still work and seal tightly on the bowls, but it’s a bit more difficult to get them on now and they just look ugly. Another lesson learned the hard way for me. 😊

I was just talking with a fella that works at a Vancouver produce distributor. Currently a head of iceberg is retailing for 8 bucks Canadian. The wholesaler buys for 5 bucks per head. A restaurant owner returned a box of iceberg because it was ridiculously too expensive.
I believe what we are witnessing is out and out gouging. I also believe grocery stores selling shelf space is another form of gouging that in the end is passed on to the consumer. The Canadian Safeway (Sobeys) CEO earned $13 million last year. Consumers pay for that salary also.
Currently the narrative grocery stores are peddling is shoplifting. Losses attributed to shoplifting is also passed onto the consumer.
They are stating shoplifting has become cronic. As though that justifies high grocery prices.
I don't believe it one bit.
They are merely taking advantage of an opportunity to price gouge and I for one am getting fed up.
Re cat litter
Down here in Australia I get a bedding called horse mate it is a pine pellet so you may be able to find something similar up there. We made a litter box out of two plastic storage bins, one goes in the other and the top one has holes in the bottom about 8mm big. When the cats pee the pine pellets turn to saw dust and drop to the bottom. Poop you just scoop out once a day if you find time. The pine pellets stop the smell pretty much 80%, and it is totally easy to deal with pine dust after...you'd be able to just put it under your trees.
Wood pellets are amazing kitty litter, we trained our two maine coons to it and have never looked back! When cleaning, we use the compostable/broken down pellets around trees on the property and throw the feces in the garbage.

Radish greens are tasty in salads too if they don’t bulb up don’t hesitate to try them.

Those kittens 😍! I am a 1 human household (me, my English Shepherd Emmett and my cat Oscar ) and am always amazed that I still find helpful things even with a grocery haul that is far beyond my needs 🤣... still, I get ideas ... I am 67, self-employed and still working, but thinking about my retirement budget and how I will adjust my food budget to fit. I am a scratch cook, sourdough baker (7 years ... bread, crackers, rolls, buns ... everything and Emelie's book is my favorite also). I don't garden except for micro greens and herbs ... I just do not love it and in my area of NW Montana we have a LOT of wonderful family organic farms/ranches/dairy. Bottomline, I think I can fit support of local farms/ranches into my budget. In my situation, I have time and significantly less volume requirements, but the haul helped me think about things I can put together to keep my pantry stocked with variety. Now ... the headlamps ... I have 4 for just me: 2 in the house, 2 in the car. I have been going USB rechargeable not only for headlamps but for other items as they are available. I am finding the current USB rechargeables powerful and long lasting. The headlamps are much lighter and stay on my head better than the heavier battery types. Thank you for sharing all that you do!!
I know at one time there was an issue with the blinds and kids "chewing" on them and injesting chemicals that were harmful. I think your food grade container is the better way to go. The only good use i have found for the blinds is to protect edges when painting around baseboards, door frames etc. I detest having to use painters tape.
We just made bourbon vanilla and 1800 vanilla! It’s pricey to start but it’s cheaper than buying that much in a store! Amazon has ever you need but the alcohol!

Good afternoon Chelsea What a haul. Everything looks absolutely delicious. I do believe my f favorite item is that jar of garlic stuffed olives - and that avocado oil spray is the perfect and healthy alternative for frying up a pound or two of bacon. The kittens are looking great. Also, I'm glad to see you're making progress with growing those winter greens.
FYI just a tip if you have a septic tank please don't ever flush any cat litter some brands are now saying flushable but they are so bad for your tank and pipes we have a septic company 😉 and have been seeing a lot of people having problems from doing this 😀
Radish leaves can be used similarly to those greens and in many of the same ways you'd use beet and turnip greens or carrot tops. Used raw, radish greens make a peppy pesto, a flavorful swap for lettuce in sandwiches, and a great addition to the salad bowl.
Yes radish greens have a peppery taste and are awesome in salads. They also fry up really nice. I put them in with spinach and swiss chard.

I got an AMAZING head lamp off Amazon. Plug into the wall to recharge and it’s so bright!! Multiple settings and I use it daily. Have had it for years now

I was at Costco - in Ontario - recently. Kirkland dog food was more money in a smaller bag than the name brand food.
You could use popsicle sticks as markers.
The greens of all radishes are edible. Instead of throwing to the pig you could put in salads or stir fry with other greens.
The dog food we use to feed our pup went from $36 for a 40lb bag to almost $80 about a year and a half ago so we had to switch him to a different brand which has also now risen in price to be about $46-$50 for a 40lb.
I love your grow room. I love the shelf you got. I'm hoping I can find one here like that. Your prices are similar to here.
Wish we had a Costco, I’ve never been in one. For all my bull flours & sugars, I make a trip to an Amish store(30 mins or so away) but even their prices have gone up. I go about twice a year & have really needed to make the trip.
We have that pet water fountain and they love it!

I've switched to a walnut shell cat litter - and it's the best I've found for keeping smells down and for clumping. It seems to last pretty well too.
We use vanilla & dark brown sugar in just about everything. In July 2021 I started my vanilla with a 1/2 gallon of spiced rum & we just had to renew it this December(there’s only 3 of us!) However, it makes perfect gifts. I bought a case of spice bottles with 2 types of tags, then 4 ounce flasks with restaurant type lids that, & 8 ounce flip top bottles. So I have several sized bottles to disperse all the extracts I have soaking. I also have been working on a 1/2 jar of vanilla sugar. I used a lot of beans to start it & have been able to add about 10 pounds of sugar using those beans. All of that is much cheaper then buying extracts & better!

Recycled paper litter is the bomb I converted years ago (UK), much less effort as it behaves like silica cat litter so swells to absorb moisture and smells, some smells anyway but doesn’t stick at all so can be scooped and removed daily for maintenance and then tipped in one go on full change day into a bin bag or composted if you’re comfortable (non food growing compost only) so for your ornamentals 😊

I've been binge watching your previous videos and was excited to see a new one! DANG I thought things were getting expensive here in PA, but some of those things were crazy. That's when you say organic is on partial temporary hold until sanity returns!

I cut up 4L plastic vinegar bottles for my plant tags. Using a small metal ruler and a Exacto knife. They work great and last year after year.
I also use dry peas from the grocery store for my micro-greens. Works great.
Good price on the vanilla! A few years ago, it was around $35.00 to $45.00 for the same size and brand.

Try 100% wood fuel pellets for kitty litter. Works great, I made the switch 4 years ago. Cheap, and you can compost it after removing feces. The pellets just turn to sawdust when wet.
We have a Catit waterer and we call it “The Flower” our four cats love it! The only thing I don’t like is the filter doesn’t last too long but we can’t go without the flower… You should make your vanilla. We need a Costco trip thanks for sharing!
Chelsea, I converted you dog food kgs to lbs and divided it out. It’s comes out to $1.29 a pound for 48.5 #. Same food here at Walmart is $1.34 # for 40# bag.

I made 86 8oz bottles of vanilla extract 2 Decembers ago, and LOVE IT. I made 3 with vodka and 3 with bourbon
I have the same bowl set. I use the lid from the 2nd largest bowl to cover my stand mixer bowl. Its a perfect fit..

Pet food is hard to find but we stocked up. 25 bag's dog food and massive treats even that I make them also. But yes when you find it's high. We also add heated broth and real meat. It helps cut the vet bill.
For my dogs I add a variety of vegetables and rice and meat to their kibble. You have lots in your root cellar they probably would love and would save you money. I always google if it is safe for dogs before trying anything new and start out with just a little to see how they do.
The cart is perfect! Nice job on that beautiful grow room. I use the mini blinds for plant markers. I have for several years now. I have not had any problems using them.

Love the 3 pack Pyrex! Going to see if my Costco has them. Our dog food is outrageous. I’m only getting a 10 lb bag for 55$ I buy from a family who have a pet shop in my town and they are usually a little more, but with inflation, it’s gotten pretty high, but it’s all natural no grain and my dog does well on it. I’ve really come to care for the family too so I’d rather spend my money there anyhow.
