I saw them at the VIC Theater just a few short hours before at this was filmed. I found out my mom had passed while I was at the show. This means so much to me.
i love that this is what they all three left the Chicago show wearing... it wound up being a weekend that will forever leave a mark on our calendars at home here.. came home found out mother in law was lifted to her heavenly home.. and i wondered the whole show long, why i felt so ready to cry.. because you just never know .. when it will be someones turn to die.. just hope each of us have a beautiful song to lift us to the sky when its our time to fly.
When he did this live at his encore in Chicago, it was one of the most beautiful, goosebump-raising, incredibly genuine moments I've ever experienced at a live music event. I've experienced so many of those type of moments at his shows over the years, but this ranks up there as probably the best. The harmonies are sonic perfection with The Dove and the Wolf.
I live in Appleton. It's a good thing I didn't know you were in my town, because I would have found you and had you sign literally every BW album I have...
Thank you! I am a previous musician, am very ill. I LOVE this song, played it for years. Being terminal, depressed and lonely, I only connect to music. So glad I watched Jimmie Kimmel (I never do) and found a true talent! Miss playing, singing, YOU have lightened my heart and warmed my always cold soul! Keep on!!
About a life time ago, I book Corey and his first band into the club I was working at. Years later I saw him in Brooklyn, and now he connects with Butch. That is pretty awesome.
Butch, I love your original music, but this just shows how you can also take a song that today we might see as trite or dated, and remind us how beautiful it really was in the first place. Thank you so much, and please never stop making music:)
Thanks for recording this, it's getting me emotional all over again since I saw you performing this in NYC! In my opinion this is how this song should be sung. I mean no disrespect towards Bette Midler, but this is just... Wow.

This is probably my favorite cover from Butch. I've heard The Rose before, but this version is the best. So emotional.
Those harmonies are god sent. Thanks Butch ❤️
