- Ride Lonesome is a 1959 US CinemaScope-Western film written by Burt Kennedy, directed by Budd Boetticher and starring the veteran actor Randolph Scott as well as famous actors Lee Van Cleef and James Coburn. The Lone Horseman is also one of the best westerns starring Randolph Scott.
Former town sheriff Ben Brigade (Randolph Scott) has long pursued the murderer Billy John (James Best), who has a bounty on his head and will be hanged when delivered to the law, and has him trapped on a hill. Although Billy John has already set a trap for the Brigade by placing his friends behind the hills, he is doomed to surrender at the moment. As the Brigade is about to set off for Santa Cruz, he calls out to his friends behind the hills and says, "Go tell my brother Frank (Lee Van Cleef)". On the way, Brigade and Billy John stumble upon the home of a woman named Miss Carrie Lane (Karen Steele), the wife of a stationmaster. Mrs. Lane's husband has gone away on business. Two men also come out of the house, Sam Boone (Pernell Roberts) and Whit (James Coburn). Thief Sam Boone and her parasitic friend Whit broke into the woman's home, waiting for Brigade and Billy John to pass. All Sam Boone wants is Billy John. Because if the person who brought Billy John to the law is an outlaw, all charges against him will be dropped and he will be acquitted. The thief Sam Boone is a cunning man, he knows very well that Brigade is not actually a bounty hunter, he thinks that he must have another plan behind this and that one day he will give John Billy to him. Meanwhile, this group of five, who was also exposed to the attacks of the Indians, began to move towards Santa Cruz together. But Brigade doesn't rush the party, knowing that Frank and his gang are after them. This makes Sam Boone even more curious. So why does Brigade move the party slowly? The answer to this question is the most crucial point of the movie.
