I think this line out of all memorable lines from other animated films is the most moving and the most gut-wrenching. Because in this one line, you can feel all of Garrett's anguish and pain. When I first watched the movie and heard it, it got me. I didn't expect for a "children's" animated film to have a line like that. I had to rewind and watch it several times. I was so impressed that the writers would include a scene that was realistic. Realistically, Garrett left Camelot because of how he was treated. Some girl he just met a few days ago wanting him to go to Camelot wouldn't be a compelling enough reason for him to actually want to leave the safe space he's been living in for years. On top of that, he wouldn't want to go back to Camelot to have the people regard him negatively and to have the first person he's bonded with in years to begin seeing him the way people see him. In the forest, Garrett is a knight and a man. In Camelot, he's neither of those things. If Kayley began to see him the way people see him, he would be going through his trauma all over again. The possibility of that happening is enough reason for him to not go, because he would rather not be hurt even more than he already has been. Just my thoughts on that whole thing.
I also love that they reprised "I Stand Alone" here because it really shows that Garrett doesn't actually want to be alone, but he feels like he has to. Love how deep this film is at times
Yeah he would be seen as a burden if he went back to Camelot. He probably couldn't do much or work much there. People would judge him on his sight and he could never have the love of his life see him less of a man when he was able to protect her. When he stands alone in the forest he knows how everything works. It's really emotional and at first when he sang the song he was confident but the realization he didn't want to be alone and being with her was better. You can hear the sorrow and loneliness in his voice!
I just rewatched this movie for the first time in YEARS. If my parents weren't in the living room I would've cried during this part. My eyes were watering.
While you see that during the whole film Garrett doesn't really show his emotions, he finally lets go and he is actually sad about being alone. I love him so much
The sad truth is the first time he sings the song, he's content with his loneliness because no one can judge him by his blindness. Then, Kayley comes along and he begins to feel companionship for the first time, and when he fears in Camelot she will only see him as the rest of the world has seen him for so long, he forces himself back into isolation, only this time it brings no comfort, because he's essentially losing the love of his life due to his fear.
When I first saw this movie and I am saw him it cry, I almost cried myself. I thought it was just so sad that people don't seem to accept him and that he feels that Kayley wouldn't either.
I loved this part because A- I love how garret looks at nothing. I mean Ik he's blind, but he actually looks blind! and B, when he sang this song the first time he seemed so happy to be in solitude, and then he instantly let Kaley come along, i was like wtf bruh, but now I see the true nature of his lonely song.
I had a massive crash on Garrett, when I first saw this movie many years ago. I bawled my eyes out! He was and always will be my first cartoon-crash! ❤❤❤
WB after Celine and Andrea release a few albums with the song made for a minor scene in their movie and the song becomes more successful and well-known than the movie itself.
