I was 16 at the time and this half time show brought two of my favorite things together, I was a happy girl that day! (the Disney theme was because the Super Bowl was in Florida and Walt Disney World was celebrating it's 20th anniversary that year- it opened October 1, 1971).
I literally started crying when those little kids ran up to NKOTB and all the boys pulled them up on their laps and sang to them. Why can't entertainment still be this sweet?

He was glad that nobody really got to see it due to the President giving a speech about the war in Iraq. They only showed a few minutes of it after the game. It was sweet but it was all staged.
I was only 8, almost 9, when this was on, so I wasn't into sports yet... This is the first time I've seen this and I loved it... Wish there was a crisper version of it... This was an amazing halftime show! Wish they'd go back to more simple times like this...
New Kids on The Block did an entire concert at Disney World. It aired on TV as a part of a Disney Special. I think it was called "New Kids on The Block Wildest Dreams".

Just read Donnie's interview in Playboy talking about what he remembers about this performance plus today is the Super Bowl so I just had to come watch this.
This was when the Super Bowl halftime shows were clean, enjoyable and well done instead of the boring and trashy ones in too many of the big games after 1991. Thanks for posting, KAREN M!

A tribute to Arm Forces half time. AMEN. It wasn't about trashy outfits, crappy songs and self centered presentation. New Kids on the Block chose a half time that showed children of all cultures and saluted Armed Forces...you know the men and women who fight for our freedom to allow us to speak freely.

I'm not a fan of NKOTB but still you can see how far away from innocence we've become. Children were able to enjoy the Superbowl with their family. Now everything is sex during the half-time shows and even during the commercials. After my niece & nephew were born it made me more hyper aware of what's being shown on tv and it's very rare that you can share anything as a family now unless it's strictly cartoons and even some of those you have to watch out for.

I have loved NKOTB since I was 11 & at 11, this was pretty appropriate. Having seen them perform as adults and half-time performances since this, including Janet Jackson's tit, this makes me sick from its sugary sweetness!! Lol
