13:49 the song that plays here is titled "This Time Is Different", it's quite lovely. I am glad it keeps playing even when you go back to the prior mountaintop screen so you can keep listening to it for a bit longer.
I'm surprised you never realized you didn't get all the fairies. The book actually keeps track for you, showing which ones you do or don't have, I thought you might check after getting the one you got this episode. The "final treasure" reward wouldn't have meant much to you anyway though, I'm just glad you enjoyed the game overall :)
I was hoping he'd do all the fairies and the 12 trophies because they're pretty easy (once you know what the clues mean, of course) but I can see the grind being too much at this point. The sharing of knowledge is a fitting denoument so at least we have that.
@@xintrosi6829 One of the trophies requires being able to read the language though, the only TH-camr I've seen go that far was NOCK, it's quite a lot of effort and it makes sense Keith wouldn't do that.
@@LB_ ah yeah, I forgot about that one. With all of his progress a few episodes ago I really thought we'd see him crack it "live", which of course then it would be no problem.
@@LB_ I dunno, he had some pretty good insights. I think he was on the right track. If he had added the conversation from the ghost at the well to his document (back when he was looking for NPC's with simple conversations to work with), I think he might have gotten there.
There are clues to the remaining secrets in the instruction manual, but it's definitely understandable to not try to be completionist about them. You've already found some VERY complex secrets, and that's quite good. You've even found the good ending. This was fun to watch.
Don't worry about recording it if you don't really want to, but there's still that treasure room and a few other interesting secrets to solve if you ever end up loading your pre-NG+ save file and keep looking! I thorougly enjoyed all the puzzle-solving sessions, the game reminded me a lot of FEZ and The Witness, and it was great to watch you go through! All the differences in people's playthroughs, things they do and don't catch that I did or didn't... always an enjoyable time! Hope we get more games like this, really... Just a quick edit: You already saw before, obviously... but the game's manual has both a list of the fairies, and hints at the treasure locations if you ever do an extra episode!
SPOILERS: From day one it looked like you were completing a game manual in some unkown language, but I think the real take is that you are playing as a the young sibling (or maybe even child) of someone that already played the game but didn't manage to uncover all the pages of the manual. The weird language highlighst that you are young enough that you don't know how to read (except for some easy words)
Bruuuh that manual completion was the cutest! It feels like the tall hero was the trapped soul, and smol hero is the template hero of a different player. So, the bad end is you getting trapped somewhere in place of the tall hero.
The souls are listed on a page in the instruction book, and get crossed off as you find them. I'm pretty sure you've seen that page before, and just didn't know what it was, but it gives the location of each of the fairies, albeit in Tunic script. (pg. 48)
Here's hoping for some bonus episodes! I loved watching you hunt down literally everything in Witness and Fez, and it'd be wonderful to see you do the same here (even if the video doesn't come out for a while).
Bit of speculative lore people have deduced by translating the full booklet + some environmental hints: (massive spoilers) The game is a time loop or has multiple/alternative timelines. The "radiation" material is caused by leaks from other timelines, and the foxes thought consuming it would grant them the "power to defeat death." It removed their future (no death) but also removed their past (no memories) so it turned them into mindless zombies. The heir is YOU from a previous loop. Hence the regular ending is defeating them and taking "your rightful place." And you can free the heir/yourself by completing the manual and "sharing your wisdom," that is, your memory of your past - who you are, where you are, what you can do. That's why the heir cries when reading the booklet, they're remembering who they are. Other little secrets: There is a room somewhere with a customization tool you can use to change the color of the fox's fur and clothes. (And obviously the heir will also change to match you during the credits of the good ending.) If you dive deep enough into the secrets, you can even find the game has an ARG. This leads to a second coded language, this one being hidden in the music. If you thought the wind chimes were bad...
Non-completion related secret: There's a pretty neat place around the two spiral staircases I'm a bit sad you never noticed. If you decide to visit, make sure to poke around every corner!
Great time watching this one! Year later comment, lol. I think getting the golden path is a good end to any playthrough. Going after the fairies is kinda tough, but then we get to the language (Trunic), the Reverse Song…and then Tuneic…dear lord, Tuneic…I still cannot believe that Tuneic is a thing in this game
It's been a wild ride, you're the one that got me to play Tunic in the first place and I really appreciate it! It'll be interesting to see what Patreon chooses next. I guess I can keep dreaming that maybe one day you'll play Trails in the Sky and all of the other Trails games.
Oh Man! The credits have the devs NAMES written in the language! This would be a great tool to try and decipher the language. It may even be the intended way? Edit: If you ever try to solve the language, I would love to see a "last" video explaining your final process and breakthroughs. Maybe a bit more of a podcast type of video rather than a "gameplay" video?
It wasn't the devs' names, it was their roles, like "Audio direction", "Music", "Level art", "Production" - it was all written in normal English in the bad ending.
Cool playthrough. For anyone itching to see the language figured out I recommend checking out Alex Diener's let's play, specifically this part: th-cam.com/video/FErXNAy8m9M/w-d-xo.html and the next one. (I hope it's ok to link to another channel here, pls no shadowban)
I really enjoyed this playthrough - it was a surprise how much of a puzzle game it ended up being, and how deep, but I think that kind of made it more interesting for me. But I'm also the weird nerd that watches the co-op puzzle stuff you do with Bird and only falls behind there when I can't get a free moment to give it at least 3/4ths of my attention... just because I enjoy watching people solve things. Looking forward to the next one! Maybe Patreon will be kind, and give you something a bit less... intensive. The last bit has been a *ride,* hasn't it, with Psychonauts 2, Elden Ring, and Tunic for brain and time investment. Also the Witness randomizer!
A great LP, Keith! I stopped watching originally at the spoiler- went and beat the game - and came back to watch you do it! I do wish there was a bit more to tunic, on the main plot, I mean. After the gauntlet boss fight, the game is over bar secret hunting basically.
Would have been cool if you could buy the book in physicall form, delivered in 28 numbered envelopes you can open as you find them in world. and i did check if they sell it... they don't :( or im blind and can't google. 80/20 on that one.I really appreciate how they handle secrets and give you further and further hints how to solve them as game progresses. Essentially build in hint system if you don't get it first time. my only reall gripe is how Holy Cross gives no feedback you are doing it. Pray has animation for example. Understanable if they wanted it to be discovery based on understanding of mechanic and not pressing random buttons, but still :(
Well, it would majorly spoil the game because some pages aren't meant to be seen until much later. And, also, the digital version reflects your position or progress. Of course, would still be awesome to have after the game but you can't really share it without spoiling the game.
that's why i added the "delivered in 24 numbered envelopes", granted i forgot how many unique sheets there are in the game :( thx. should have been 28 (54pages+2covers / 2) all it would spoil you is that there are things you find and if you are going to open them, then you might as well google pages you are missing on internet.Physicall copy or not. It can totally be done without spoilers. and yea, it wouldn't update the location, or the colected fairies.
Hm... I wonder about that supposed secret message hinted at in the memo section, where you thought you were supposed to read the manual while standing in water. The rectangular letter on the inside page 1 made me think of that- there is that star and enough space for a secret message.
There are a couple of secrets you're missing, though, require the language to be deciphered. You're not too far off, and pretty correct so far, so it'd be cool to see you finish it, but if its done its done xD. Maybe since you know you're pretty correct, maybe just look at the translated manuals, and you can try to find and decypher the other secrets
Fantastic game, and there are so many cute nods to different classic games/series there it's just a joy to see. For me, it's not without it's flaws however: - Way too many hidden paths and chests behind hidden tunnels and such, having to constantly rub your face on the landscape because there always could be something, is really annoying after a while. A "normal" game could excuse itself by simply having no other ideas how to present it's secrets, but when you have shown how clever you can be this is just disappointing to see. - ... and then this first issues get's even worse by introducing the dash mechanic in the second half of the game. You thought it was bad enough having to rub your face onto all rocksurfaces hidden behind the static camera ? Now you have to constantly spam the dash in all directions and rub it even on the empty air and/or invisible walls because there could be some new path open up. - The difficulty is all over the place, especially in the second half when you loose your powers. - The bossfights overall are good, but some of them feel like they have an unecessary amount of hitpoints. - If you try to get everything it's a bit too grindy for my taste. Those stat ups and coins are expensive, and the game want's you to use consumables on top of that ? You really can't say that money doesn't have any value because you are always short on it. And that is without loosing your money after death. But these issues are small and really don't change the overall quality of the game.
All dash paths are super obvious and clearly communicated. I think you just overthought the complexity of the secrets after walking behind a few walls (and the most hidden areas are ALL hinted at via manual).
I've been working on translating the manual for anyone interested. Here's the gallery that will get updated as I progress. At time of posting I've done up to page 30. imgur.com/a/q2ngKgJ
