    I think if you want to garden you can't give up you just keep trying till you find your sweet spot especially when you don't know anyone else in your area that gardens. Dont give up,don't give up its nothing like growing your own food. Its gonna be good season and bad season but a harvest is a harvest and it's all a blessing

    I am so glad you are very detail oriented. I am too, and I deeply appreciate it in all you do. In these progression videos, I appreciate the 5 gallon bucket "grow-along", because right now that's what I have. I know it takes good planning, good control, and good record keeping to bring us these comparisons. Just wanted you to know that some of us know this isn't magic, and it's nowhere near as easy and carefree to make these videos as you make it seem. Very well done. High education value. Your family will be benefitting from these videos for many generations, even when new tech comes along. And so will other families. Best to you and yours!

    Another great video. After watching the onion video I called the onion farm in TX and ordered my onion plants for this year. The last couple years it's been hard to find southern onions here in Florida. When I call around they either have the walla walla onions (northern onion) or no onions at all. I didn't realize there was an onion farm to buy from. Thank you for telling us. Looking forward to getting them next month. Looking forward to your videos too. Thanks again.

    I just have to say thank you. I usually don’t follow Southern growers because I’m in zone 5b. But I love your videos on Napa. Last year I tried growing them using Michihili. I never got a head. Lotsa leaves and saved seeds from it bolting. Well I followed your recommendations and bought Rubicon from Johnny. Also Bilko. They sprouted in 2 days. I can’t wait to see the end result

    Hollis, when you say, “harden off”, what does that mean? Does it mean setting the seedling outside for a specific time? The cabbage looks SO beautiful! ❣️♥️❣️

    • @HollisNancysHomestead
      @HollisNancysHomestead  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I start all my seeds under a 40% shade cloth. After the seedlings form true leaves and are getting big enough to transplant, I gradually introduce them to more direct sun out from under the shade cloth until they can stay our for a full day. This usually takes about 5-7 days. At that point the seedlings are hardened off. They can take full sun all day and the stems are strong enough to resist wind. They are now ready to transplant

    Hi. Beautiful harvest!! How are the chickens doing in laying eggs n roosting? Have you had any small critters in your garden with the fencing? Do y'all just fresh water fish? Peace to you and yours

    • @HollisNancysHomestead

      Chickens are doing great. Laying plenty of eggs each day. They love their roost. We have had no problems with critters in the garden with the fence. We use lots of fresh water fish and saltwater fish. It all works fine👍. Thanks for watching. Ha e a peaceful evening

      @@HollisNancysHomestead Do you put fish heads in the buckets too?

    • @HollisNancysHomestead
      @HollisNancysHomestead  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not. The container soil does not have enough bacteria to break down the fish. It will rot attracting flies and make maggots. I stick with blood meal and liquid fertilizer for containers

    So what does Nancy make with the red napa?

  • @mattpeacock5208
    @mattpeacock5208 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    That green one might not be a green napa seed that got mixed in! It could be a natural variation, that's how purple cabbage happened in the first place. Let it bolt and try reseading, you may be developing your own variety of cabbage. If that's true, you get to name it whatever you want!

      I live in northern Canada so planting season isn't till May to August. So just keep the seeds wet or moist.

    I am going to try one last time. It’s 2 July and nights are in the 60’s. Days up to 80. I can NOT stop my napa from bolting. What am I doing wrong. I use fish emulsion now instead of dropping a fish into the whole like before. Even the rubicon’s bolted. Bilka abd Michihili alll of them. As well as my Korean Radish. The only upside is that I can save seeds. Please help me out
